How’d I land this internship?

In 2022, my wife and I moved across the country from Provo, Utah to Raleigh, North Carolina. 

I got active on LinkedIn
- started growing my network 
- posted about jobs, tagged TeamWork

Davis Filippell, President of TeamWork Online, sent me a connection request and we exchanged some messages.

1 month later, Davis flew to Charlotte for the Sports Marketing Association Conference. 

He offered to meet at 8am.

I said yes!

I woke up at 5am and drove 3 hours from Raleigh to Charlotte.

You might think I’m crazy 

But those of you that know Davis know that it was worth every minute.

He’s energetic, insightful, and motivating.

I left that meeting inspired 

And with an internship offer 😉

I never played soccer.

I worked in the NWSL in gameday operations for the NC Courage. It helped me land my job at TeamWork Online.

•Directed community relations, foundation, and youth hockey activations such as the Canes Skills Series at Marbles Children’s Museum in Raleigh, NC.
•Assisted with planning and logistics of major fan events including Carolina Hurricanes Fan Fest and the 2023 Stadium Series.

•Recruited, Hired, and Trained a staff of 25+ Part-time Community Events Staff members.
•Coordinated a $500,000 budget for event operations.
•Managed all Community Events and Promotional needs in accordance with the NHL Industry Growth Fund (IGF) Budget.

•Supported the management of the club’s media trade partnerships, including the development of graphics and content 
•Aided in the management of the anvil striker program, identifying local and national personalities to participate in the fan experience ritual
•Oversaw the production and content, graphic, and photo selection of the quarterly Kids Club Magazine

•Assisted with coordination of over 300 youth-based First Down clinics across the country with a goal of introducing the game of football to 30,000+ athletes  
•Served as the main point of contact for community organizations to service needs, explain program goals and answer any questions 
•Administered First Down tours, programs, and clinics using Salesforce and online registration system 
•Oversaw event logistics for First Down equipment, materials, and event resources

•Served as an ambassador of the Carolina Hurricanes for over 15,000-20,000 fans during mobile marketing opportunities 
•Executed the setup, oversight, and breakdown of the South Plaza Parties marketing program
•Orchestrated various community relations and special events such as the Caniac Carnival and gameday giveaways 
•Provided top-notch customer service to all fans and corporate sponsors in attendance

•Served as an ambassador of the Kansas City Chiefs by promoting a positive fan experience for over 63,000 fans 
•Interacted with fans to promote the Chiefs Kingdom Rewards program and solicited 127 new Chiefs Kingdom Kids club memberships in one day 
•Encouraged St. Joseph community members to attend training camp through grassroots marketing opportunities  
•Assisted with management and operations of training camp events including the kid's zone

Guest Services for Wingate Athletic Department

With a passion and a desire to make a difference, I joined High Point University as the Manager of Annual Giving in March 2024. In this role, I oversee the fundraising strategy and execution for the university, cultivating relationships with donors and alumni, and managing various events and campaigns to support the university's mission and vision.

Before joining HPU, I gained valuable experience in the sports industry, working as a Community Events Manager for the Carolina Hurricanes and a Marketing Intern for the Indianapolis Colts. I developed and implemented innovative marketing and fan engagement initiatives, generating over $600,000 in grassroots revenue, growing fan club memberships by 18%, and reaching over 300,000 fans through various community outreach events. I also earned my MBA in Sports Marketing and Revenue Generation from Winthrop University, where I learned the latest trends and best practices in the field. Additionally, I obtained my Social Media Strategy and Management Certification from both Wake Tech Community College and Walk West Marketing Agency, enhancing my digital marketing skills and knowledge. 

I enjoy meeting new people, learning new things, and creating memorable experiences for the fans and the community. I am always eager to take on new challenges and opportunities to grow and improve. I have strong skills in event management, marketing, community relations, brand ambassadorship, and interpersonal communication.
