Because we’re to afraid to be the first.
The risk is too high.

No one wants to say it out loud,

good ‘ol days mentality.

Forms that haven’t changed since the 90s.

but half our workflow is trapped in the past.

I don’t talk with families anymore. But I used to.
Back then, I’d sit across from a daughter holding a notepad full of words she couldn’t pronounce. She’d point to one and ask, “What does non-healing stage 3 pressure ulcer with necrotic tissue actually mean?”

The nurse had explained it twice. The doctor had charted it perfectly. But no one had truly 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘥 it.

Today, I drop that same note into ChatGPT. 
Then I write:

“Explain this to a worried daughter with no medical background who has barely slept in two days.”

What comes back isn’t cold. It’s kind.
“Your mom has a deep sore that isn’t closing yet. The outer part has some dead tissue, but the care team is cleaning it and helping her heal.”

It’s nice to simplify language.
We lose trust when we speak in code. 
AI gives us a second language.

It's a tool for brainstorming a different approach.

Oddly enough,
Aging is the only condition we’ve normalized.
The only one we’ve stopped trying to cure.

Maybe it’s time to stop calling it “natural”
and start calling it what it really is

Writing reports to summarize audit and consultant review findings to include corrective action plan recommendations, as needed.

As Interim Director of Nursing, I was responsible for the recruitment and development of nursing staff and ensuring that all nursing personnel follow policies and procedures.
Other duties in this role included planning, directing, coordinating and evaluating nursing care services. Ensuring that the facility is in strict compliance with all state and federal guidelines, which includes an active role in the preparation for all state surveys, and taking all necessary steps to create a plan of correction.  I maintained a liaison with residents, families and support departments to plan for resident needs.

Employed as an MDS coordinator/ Clinical Manager for 55 bed facility.  Responsible for implementing and coordinating managed care products, as well as identifying and developing plan of care in accordance with Medicare Skilling criteria, care planning, PPS assessments, and MCD case mix optimization to improve facility reimbursement.  Under my tenure as MDS coordinator the facility’s MCD reimbursement was increased 5%.
Management and oversight of the Quality Measure reporting.  Assisted administrator with the quarterly PB&J submissions.  Responsible for monthly infection control tracking, as well as scheduling and coordinating Resident Care Conferences. Completed quarterly case mix audits and reimbursement optimization of 2 additional buildings in the Deaconess Long term care company. 
In my role as clinical manager I contributed to and pesented monthly and PRN in- services for the nursing staff. Verified staff attendance at in- service and maintained in- service logs for each nursing team member.  Assisted the Director of Nursing with STNA scheduling and daily staffing assignments. 
Coordinated the facility’s Performance Improvement program by reviewing monthly audits and synthesizing the data into reports to review with the QI committee quarterly. I also performed monthly audits of the medication pass and medication carts to ensure staff adherence to state and federal guidelines.  I completed daily nursing note review to ensure accurate, concise, and timely charting by the staff nurses.  Assisted and supported the DON and acted on her behalf during her absence, and  supported the overall facility goals, policy and chain of command.
