I didn’t own a cell phone until I started University.

In my environment, girls were kept "protected."

I grew into myself.

Growth isn’t about becoming louder.

But honestly?

That still feels better than typing “amazing insight 🔥” on a post you barely scrolled.

I’d rather grow quietly than fake excitement loudly.

If likes aren’t coming yet, fine.

Improve the post. Say it clearer. Post again.

Trying again is easier, than acting impressed all day.

What distinguishes companies that have built a Clear Growth System from those stuck between growth and profit?

ACQUIRED podcasts about Uber, Spotify, and Airbnb surprisingly agree on one thing.

The difference isn't in the market.
It's not in the talent of the teams.
And it's definitely not in the number of growth experiments.

The difference is whether growth has become a system ( surprise surprise)

Companies that have passed this point look like this:

1️⃣ Growth is a function of the system, not the marketing department. At Uber, growth is determined not by campaigns, but by how the marketplace works: matching, pricing, liquidity. At Spotify, it's not by releases, but by a reusable discovery and monetization platform. When growth is built into the product and processes, marketing enhances the system, rather than dragging it down.

2️⃣ Data drives decisions, and people set the rules. In mature companies, data isn't just reports for conference calls. These are closed decision loops: the system automatically optimizes price, recommendations, and demand distribution. Humans work at the level of logic and constraints, not manual cases.

3️⃣ The company owns the workflow, not just the demand channel. Uber has become the place where supply chains generate work and revenue. Spotify is the place where attention is consumed. Airbnb remains a strong demand channel, but it's not a host operating system - and has hit a ceiling on LTV and margins.

4️⃣ AI reinforces order - and mercilessly accelerates chaos. In all cases, AI works where structure already exists. Where clear processes and workflow ownership are lacking, AI doesn't save the day; it makes problems faster and more expensive.

The irony is brutal.

Frase - a platform that promised to help you "Create Content That Ranks #1 on Google 10x Faster" - just watched its own organic traffic collapse from 60K monthly visits to near zero.

The timeline:
April 2024: 60K organic visits/month 
May 2025: Less than 3K visits 
Traffic value: $28K → $0

What happened? 
Frase built a business around AI-generated SEO content.

Their promise: analyze competitors, generate optimized content, rank fast.

The problem? Google saw it coming.

The real story Google won't say directly:

While Google publicly claims they don't penalize AI content, their algorithm increasingly filters out what I call "optimization theater" - content that checks all the SEO boxes but serves no human need.

Frase's traffic graph tells the story.

The decline isn't gradual.

It's a cliff.

Why this matters for your GTM:

If your growth strategy relies on AI-generated content to "hack" Google's algorithm, you're building on sand.

The pattern I'm seeing: 
→ Tools that promise "AI-powered SEO" are losing ranking 
→ Content that feels synthesized (even if "optimized") gets filtered 
→ The distribution channel is collapsing while tools keep selling

The uncomfortable truth:

Google's algorithm has gotten better at detecting content that exists to manipulate ranking vs. content that exists to serve users.

When your entire business model is "create content that ranks" rather than "create content humans need" - you're in the blast radius.

Three questions for your team:

What % of your content exists to rank vs. to help?

If Google removed SEO value tomorrow, would you still create it?

Are you building distribution or renting it?

The takeaway: 
Frase didn't lose traffic because of an algorithm update. They lost it because their core value prop - generate optimized content fast - became the thing Google is actively working against.

This is what happens when you optimize for the platform instead of the user.

Real GTM means owning distribution, not gaming it. If your growth depends on a platform's algorithm, you don't have a moat. You have a timer.

Most founders I've worked with think Clear Growth Vision is some kind of magic pill.

One tweak they need to implement, after which everything will grow fast and profitable.

And that's where startups die (I didn't find RIP Emoji).

Clear Growth Vision is a myth.

What you really need is a Clear Growth System.

When you have a system, it becomes less important WHAT you do. Because the system dictates what you do, why you do it, how you do it, and when you do it.

A clear growth system consists of: 
→ Focus 
→ Ownership 
→ Rhythm 
→ Feedback loops

All working together as a more or less well-oiled mechanism.

And when I say "more or less," I mean it.

You don't need a perfect growth system. It just needs to be good enough to understand your constraints, find and focus on optimal strategies, move at an extremely fast pace, and have clear feedback loops.

Once you have it, you get clarity. Peace of mind. And the most powerful foundation for profitable growth.
