As a Journalist (MA), psychologist and CEO of MissCommuniTeam, I have over 25 years of experience in creating and delivering bespoke communication strategies for ambitious women.

After Cambridge certified me in communication for "Impact and Influence”, and having been a former TV host and best-selling author, I started my own company teaching Leadership Communication Skills. 

However, every female leader complained of stress and success. 

I wanted answers, and most of all, I wanted a better life for my clients.

I took a huge business risk in pausing my executive coaching business and self-funded undercover journalism research on how organisations manage the well-being of women. 

It was clear that every woman had safe space violations and that people and policy failed them.

I then self-funded my innovation to improve women's safe spaces.

General communication skills,  more money and equity projects, and diversity in demographics failed to slow the rise in women's social and career unhappiness.

I understood that "Self Advocacy Skills" were needed as a group of personal communication assets and "Safe Space Strategists" were necessary for organisations to facilitate women's safe space profiles.

I have completed my BETA test of the world's first safe space strategists in my personally built program and I’ve been nominated for an award for redefining leadership as safe space management.

I'm looking for allies in my global mission to get every young woman to understand self-advocacy skills before they have safe space violations.

Growing up, I never admired the most "popular" person
I did not follow the loudest in the room
I always gravitated to the most consistent stable person

The one who was the underestimated
But honest and never exaggerated their position

That made me feel comfortable to be myself
That made me feel safe

I've been wanting to post this for 25 years.

We traumatise mothers, and don't even know it

I gave up my 2 jobs at 25 to enter motherhood fully 
Without turning my children into 3rd party business models
To know I did my best with those dependents that have no voice

25 years later
I have my dream life
Zero guilt or regret
My greatest effort and investment
Went into building generational wealth

My family
Are my best friends
My cheerleaders and sincere allies
Forever until the end

But it was not a journey without punishment

I'm not talking about sleepless nights
Mount Everest laundry
Physical changes

It was the trauma of being pressured to;

Stop being lazy and help my husband with money
Stop harming the planet with overpopulation
Use my degrees because it's a "waste"
Your career is over with no CV credits being 
"Just a wife and mother"

Coaching hundreds of women
They have often shared the trauma of
Labels and leaving babies behind for a paycheck

They wish they had a choice, but felt socially trapped

That's not empowerment
That's not a legacy to pass on to daughters
That's not what I had, thank goodness, I was strong enough 

Ladies and leaders, we have to stop the judgment against mothers

Fake empowerment is forcing women to do things they feel is unnatural

Real empowerment means they follow their nature without consequences

Why the truth teller becomes the enemy, and how to turn the tables on deception

It's a story I hear over and over again: 
People are punished for "helping"

🤐 Silence is rewarded by the people causing harm

This is the classic toxic workplace dynamic

I lived it as a woman, as a second-generation migrant, 
as a spiritually visible person

🦠 That kind of marginalisation only infects everyone 
with the "survival mode' virus

🚫 Years ago, I promised myself to never stay silent 
in toxic systems.

I decided to advocate for truth — even when it made me 
“the problem.”

🌟 It's a promise is keep today
And train my children and clients in

And no:
 – I wasn’t trying to rebel.
 – I wasn’t looking for drama.
 – I wasn’t being “difficult.”

I was protecting integrity.

Since I stopped silencing myself:
 ✨ My clients perform better under psychological safety challenges.
 ✨ Teams communicate instead of collapsing
 ✨ HR leaders rebuild trust and retention.

Silence protects no one — it just delays accountability.

A year later, I’m clearer than ever on my mission:

Never mute truth again.

Because silence costs more than speaking up ever will.

Posting DEI statements is only half the job done on LinkedIn.

The 1 thing I realised about abuse 25 years ago


Hindsight is a great thing

Everything looks simple

In past tense

But what if I could give you 
the advantage of a lifetime?

When I look back at how I got
Manipulated, or had my trust broken 

The truth is, I was often not surprised 
I felt things were “off” long before the
abuser showee thier true colours 

Manipulated to never announce that they’re coming. They don’t make their intentions clear in a contract.

“ hello I’m going to pretend that I’m a great person, and then at some point when I’ve earned your trust, I’ll destroy your entire life”

🤨

The whole point of manipulation is 
that it’s deception

😶‍🌫️

🪧When I speak to women, it’s clear the patterns are the same. They all saw it coming, but ignored the signals.

Here’s what I want women to do more
Here’s what you’re going to do more of
Here’s what I wish I did more

Trust your intuition
Your survival instincts never lie
You see manipulators are good at
making you ignore the signals

That’s how they suck you in

So here’s what I tell my clients:

“If you have to change so much for people, you feel a stressed-stranger in your own body, you don't real relationships. You have real manipulation.”

You’re not crazy
You’re not too much
You’re not oversensitive

Follow that and get yourself out of a manipulations way as soon as possible before things get to crisis point

Why people get jealous and how to know if they are.....this could save your safe space.

Being in awe of someone is great
It motivates you to be better
It gives you a hero

Being jealous is toxic
You don't support
You destroy

In romantic terms, being mildly protective of your 
thier partner is relatively harmless. 

But when you see someone as an
object to own, use and abuse, that is dangerous and unhealthy.

So why do people get jealous instead of inspired in social /professional life?

I'm a psychologist and high-performance communications strategist 
who trains in safe space management so people can 
thrive and not just survive

This is why people want to harm you when they are triggered by jelously.

1️⃣  Mirroring effect: A colleague's success can highlight your own untapped potential or lack of effort.

2️⃣ Defensiveness: Some people respond with jealousy or criticism instead of using that success as motivation.

3️⃣ Avoidance: It's easier to dismiss someone's achievements as luck than to confront areas where you could improve.

4️⃣ Growth opportunity: Noticing jealousy at work can be a signal to develop skills or pursue goals you've been avoiding.

👀 You don't have to expose a jealous person, but you should be careful about what you say around them and how close they are to you.

Time to lead like a mother? - I don't mean babysitting!


Growing up I had two parents who worked every hour that they had
They were loving and never used babysitters
But they were also tired and stressed allot

Looking back this impacted their ability to be emotionally present
I never had a bedtime story
I felt a need to help in the "struggle'
I saw survival mode normalised

Now raising my own children I try to show up differently 
I am a leader training other future leaders
....you see

Corporate leadership structures and families have a lot in common
In the toxic and healthy possibilities to transform

This is what I've learnt over the 25 years of raising five children

↳ Mothers nurture talent; they don't just extract labour

↳ Mothers see opportunity to learn in failure, they don't shame

↳Mothers are safe spaces where authenticity is welcome

↳Mothers lead by example not entitlement

↳Mothers have a duty of care, not carelessness

↳ Mothers have strong resilience and vulnerability to be soft

These are some of my reflections recently about my journey 
as a leader of the women and the leaders I train. 

I find myself carrying over my parental learnings in my groups.

Of course maybe some of us never had the "best" motherhood
experience as mothers or being mothered

But I hope to facilitate open discussion about this.
I grow and learn everyday

My childrne have been the unexpected teachers
I have been a willing student

I was thrown out of a zoom room this week, so I did this 


I did not get mad
I did not get even 
I did self-advocate 

Here’s the story first

The well known male speaker referenced many accolades in business revenue, network, and strategies to help people

Whilst much of what he was saying was interesting and useful, I caught him using passive aggressive language three times

🚩He questioned the intelligence of one of the audience

🚩He referenced someone asking a repeated question as someone who doesn’t understand

🚩He used elitist framing in his presentation of information

✋🏼 I decided, but I could not be a bystander
And sent a private message to the host and panelists

It was clear in the meeting that he paused when he received that notification in the chat

Immediately he referenced Jan, in a naming and shaming action and ask publicly that I would be removed from the meeting


🤯 For a moment, I thought it’s impossible that the host will actually comply

🧠Surely somebody will understand that a private message should not be used personally?

🧠Surely someone would appreciate that it is unprofessional to create drama?

🧠Surely giving they would not give message to the rest of the audience that feedback is punished?

After all, it was not his platform, he was a guest presenter

However, his orders were executed without question

🥾I was thrown out of the meeting

There are people who know me in that group and there was no immediate follow up about my well-being

Bystander apathy is real

Of course, I do not accept that people can behave as bullies and be left unaccounted for

I sent a formal email explaining that I had full right to send private messages to protect safe spaces and respectful dialogue in public meetings

The management of the event were very receptive and separated themselves from that level of toxic culture

📝 Here’s the thing

✅ I know how to self advocate

I did not allow that incident to send me into a spiraling, social state of stress or embarrassment

🤐I do not accept to be silenced

I stood by my values and apologetically and fearlessly

However, I know there are others who would be crushed by such an experience in such a public manner, especially when they trust is violated

Insecure leaders do not need to dim the light of others, and they take feedback in a non-personal manner, even if they disagree with it

It only takes us to be silent when manipulation and abuse happens by one person, and everyone’s light  is dimmed

There is no right time - only time, and what you choose to do with it.

That's not because you're lazy or unready; it's because your nervous system was built to protect you from risk, not to launch you into it.

﻿﻿The human brain is wired for loss aversion — we overestimate risk by up to 2x compared to potential reward (Tversky & Kahneman, 1991).

﻿﻿Trauma-informed studies (Dr. Stephen Porges, "Polyvagal Theory") show that uncertainty triggers protective states — even when the "danger" is emotional, not physical.

﻿﻿Yet leaders and advocates who act with deliberate courage - even before certainty arrives - are rated by peers as

The one thing that super-successful do, and it's not related to money or career


I have coached hundreds of women all over the world in high-performance communication skills

Regardless of age or demographic, there is one thing I noticed

It's this one thing that separated the super successful
from the mediocre

🏃 🥚 It was those women who followed my strategy to 
never stay in toxic environments too long

I'll admit I used to have a problem in people pleasing,
I would make an excuse for bad behaviour
"Maybe they were having a bad day?"

But the problem is, you can't make excuses for a pattern

In fact, my exact advice is as soon as you acknowledge 
 disrespectful behaviour, you should;

1/ Have self-respect to know it's wrong - don't make excuses

2/Self-advocate for your safe space - without hesitation

3/ If there is no respect for your self-advocacy, leave

The reason why it's so important to act quickly is that
toxic environments will make you psychologically and physically sick
the more you allow them to influence you

It's your "ResponsAbility" to take control of your well-being\
when other people do not value it

I have clients who are hospitalised because of Safe Space violations
Not because they were physically hurt, but because stress created disease

Also, you have to realise, as women we take this negative energy
Home with us. And it becomes a generational problem.

If you want to be super successful, and not mediocre
Don't allow Safe Space violations to hold you back

It will take longer to recover.
⏰  You lose time
📈  You lose progress
⛅  You lose your dreams
🧠  You lose your self-identity

Simply put, the sign of self-respect and super successful people
is their ability to distance themselves from a toxic ecosystem

Be it a person
or an organisation

Your unstable boss was built by “MUM” not the MBA - (your the same BTW)


I’ve often made a statement repeatedly

Workplace cultures are identical to family cultures

If the leader is:

🚫Emotionally unstable, 
⛔️Insecure about themselves
🚯Unable to take responsibility
🚷Blames and shames

That’s a developmental pattern that was established from the early caregivers

In my caption “MUM” references to people that looked after you in the sensitive developmental phases of your life

Typically, this is 0 to 5 years old

The role of a primary caregiver is safe space management, physical, psychological and emotional

If we learnt to suppress our feelings instead of process them, the only thing we feel is overwhelmed instead of confidence when life throws challenges

That inability to manage yourself internally will inevitably create chaos externally

In this video, we have an excellent example of a mother who was feeling with her kids, navigating the possibilities of a tricky situation

These kids do not feel isolated or silence
These children feel seen and valued
Even when it’s easy to judge, a 
"mistake “was made

This is a great example of how leaders can learn from mothers who do crisis management right

👍🏼People are given agency
👍🏼Respect 
👍🏼Choice 

A safe space allows you to make mistakes
And see your way forward
A minus becomes a plus

You can imagine these kids growing up to navigate challenges in a healthy manner where they can support others and not feel overwhelmed by trying to process their own feelings

This is what everyone needs
At any stage in life 
Young / old

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen
trauma used by leaders who think they
Are being smart at motivation

👎🏼The aggressive language
👎🏼The personal comments
👎🏼The threats of lost jobs

Week leaders only use trauma because
They only know trauma in their histories

The truth is

Even if your team gets to the goal

It’s not a win

You have lost

Here’s an uncomfortable truth;

Research from the Center for Workplace Mental Health found that employees with untreated trauma symptoms have 63% higher absenteeism rates 


And they are more likely to experience presenteeism (being physically present but mentally disengaged), which costs U.S. employers an estimated $100 billion annually in lost productivity.

Trauma informed leaders that motivate, teams with wellbeing skills know stress creates an unseen loss in;

The solution?

We have to have self-advocacy skills

And all of my clients know how to do the same.

I'll share one of the frameworks I use right now so the next time you need an "ask" from a decision-maker they'll give you more than a minute and probably give you more than you want.

▶️ Use the BLUF and FBR frameworks

❓ Where It Comes From?

• BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front) originated in the U.S. military and government writing standards, especially where commanders did not have time to read long reports.

• FBR (Frame, Benefit, Request) draws from persuasion research in behavioural psychology and executive communications.

↳Cognitive Load Theory - People remember the first thing and 
the last thing, leading with your core message, maximises recall.

🗣️ Your message matters - but clutter is killing it

A lesson I learnt from being in high-performance leadership
circles if that in communications, less is more.

As a psychologist, I know attention span is getting lower
so to get attention, you have to be concise and precise, this
is what I have taught hundreds of successful women

That moment when your brilliant idea comes out sounding 
like a committee wrote it

Your audience glazes over
Your request gets ignored  
Your expertise gets questioned

The problem isn't what you're saying
It's everything extra you're adding

5 communication habits to declutter immediately:

1/
↳ Over-explaining weakens your point
Stop adding three paragraphs of context before your request
Your message should land without a user manual

2/
↳ Vague language creates work for others
"We might want to think about potentially..." makes people guess
Say what you mean the first time

3/
↳ Passive voice hides responsibility  
"The project fell behind" versus "I missed the deadline"
Own your words, and people will trust your solutions

4/
↳ Apologising for existing diminishes you
"Sorry to bother you, but..." before every email
Stop asking permission to take up space you've earned

5/
↳ Filler words broadcast uncertainty
"So, um, basically what I'm trying to say is..."
Silence is stronger than verbal fumbling

Clear communication isn't about being perfect
It's about being intentional with every word

....said the inner critic that was put there without your consent

Exactly this time last year, I was visiting my house in London and 
flew in from Dubai just after joining Lara Acosta 's Literally Academy

🧭 Beyond 'No Means No': Rethinking the Hidden Boundaries of Safe Spaces

We all know the basics of safe spaces

No unwanted contact
No hate speech 
Listen respectfully

But here's what I've learned, facilitating groups and communities for years

The rules we don't talk about 
matter just as much

Safety isn't just about what we avoid
It's about invisible boundaries that create real trust

Five boundaries that changed how I think about safe spaces:

💬 Emotional labor has limits

"I care, but I don't have capacity right now"

This needs to be okay to say

Forced emotional availability kills authenticity faster than any rule violation

🧠 Information deserves consent, too

Personal stories aren't community property

What's shared here stays here
Unless someone explicitly says otherwise

Your vulnerability shouldn't become my dinner party conversation

📱 Tech etiquette is respect

No recording
No screenshots
No side conversations about what's happening

When people feel like content instead of humans
Trust disappears

🌗 Silence is participation

Not everyone thinks out loud

Some need processing time
Others communicate through deep listening

Rushing to fill quiet spaces can shut down the very voices we're trying to hear

🧩 Intersectionality is a boundary

What feels safe for me might not feel safe for you

Your lived experience shapes what safety looks like

"In my experience" beats "everyone knows" every single time

Safe spaces aren't built by good intentions alone

They're maintained through ongoing consent, clarity, and care

The boundaries we can't see often matter most

If you're feeling behind as 2025 ends, I need you to hear this:

Perfectionists with amnesia make the same mistake an infinite number of times, just so they can get it right.

Like someone with memory loss, you forget that perfection never worked before.

Yet you keep trying the same broken strategy.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂.

It learned early that "not perfect" meant danger.

Criticism, rejection, or disappointment from people who mattered.
So now you'd rather do nothing than risk being seen as flawed.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁.

The promotion went to someone who shipped their ideas.

The client chose the competitor who moved faster.

The opportunity passed while you were still preparing.

Your fear of imperfection is guaranteeing mediocrity.

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝟯𝟬 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲.

December 2024 is your last chance to choose progress over paralysis.

Stop submitting to a trauma response disguised as high standards.

The cure isn't perfection.
It's courage to be seen before you're ready.

Ship the good enough version.
Send the imperfect proposal.
Start the difficult conversation.
Launch before you feel prepared.

↳ Bystander apathy doesn't just enable harm - it multiplies it
Every witness who stays silent gives abusers more power
Every leader who looks away teaches the organization that victims are disposable
↳ The culture calcifies around protecting the wrong people

↳ The blindfold queue is longer for real reasons
Fear of retaliation isn't paranoia when you've seen colleagues disappear after reporting
Speaking up can cost careers, relationships, mental health
↳ But silence costs your ability to respect the person in the mirror

↳ We've made courage expensive and conformity cheap
When HR protects reputation over people
When "don't rock the boat" becomes company culture
When witnesses get labeled troublemakers for seeing clearly

The reality: Both individuals and systems share responsibility.

↳ Document patterns, not just incidents. Build relationships before you need them. Know your state's recording laws.

𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗥:
↳ Track exit interview themes. Investigate complaints about "difficult" people. Create reporting paths that bypass direct managers.

𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀:
↳ Your silence sends a message. Make sure it's one you can live with.

The hope stall stays empty because we've made shopping there too expensive.
