If you're advertising in a mature market, one of the easiest ways to earn attention is by doing something different

Earlier this year, Buildkite created an "examples" section on the website to help developers understand the different ways you could use Buildkite

One of those examples happened to be a very unconventional one: Running Doom

What was great about this "examples" format was: 

- it showed the product
- talked through the use case in a technical way
- lead you organically to the next step (trying it out yourself)

The Doom example was particularly interesting because it also showed how Buildkite did CI/CD differently 

They even squeezed in some AI stuff into the example without AI-washing the product

AND the design team leaned into the bit with a great Doom-inspired version of the logo 

I quickly flipped this example into our campaigns & it became on of our top performers across several channel

Any examples you've seen lately that do something different / unexpected that's gotten your attention?

Me when I see an ad using personalization macros on LI:

Been thinking a lot about progression over the last few months

Progress used to feel like something big: 

- better job
- going back to school
- owning a house

But lately, progress feels smaller:

- needing less context to make important decisions
- finding time to focus on quality vs. pure output
- not obsessing over work

It's this kind of progress that's helped me find more balance in the work I get to do & has helped me get more joy from it 

Here's to compounding progress in 2026

P.S. To any tricking / parkour folks who scroll by this, I know, my dive roll needs some work & I'm not standing as tall as I need to on my fronts, but we'll get there. Progress takes time
