Jag brukar inte skriva politiska inlägg, men jag är connectad med många personer inom utbildning och det vore intressant att höra vad ni tycker:

Under våren var jag läxhjälpsvolontär i matematik på en gymnasieskola i Stockholmstrakten. Skolan har det kämpigt och snittbetyget i matematik bland avgångselever är under godkänt (jag stötte på flera gymnasieelever som försökte lösa ekvationssystem utan att kunna grundläggande algebra, samt flera som inte kunde multiplikationstabellen). I debatten talas det ofta om att tillföra skolan resurser, vilket var precis vad vi gjorde genom att starta upp läxhjälpsverksamheten där. 

Vi fick dock lägga ner verksamheten efter en termin pga bristande intresse. Det dök helt enkelt inte upp några elever. 

Vår hypotes var först att det kanske hade att göra med att eleverna inte kände till oss, så vi bad skolan att marknadsföra oss mer - vilket de gjorde utan resultat. 

Vi funderade såklart också på om vi helt enkelt gjorde ett dåligt jobb som volontärer - att eleverna inte kände att vi var kunniga, eller att de föredrog AI (vilket jag själv kanske hade gjort om jag gått på gymnasiet). När vi pratade med de ordinarie lärarna så höll de dock inte med - lärarna hade samma problem själva! De anordnade extratimmar och hade en öppen mattejour-chat där de svarade på frågor dygnet runt. Även lärarna tillförde alltså mer resurser till skolan, men eleverna använde sig inte av dem.

Allt detta gjorde mig lite konfunderad, så nu när det är valår är jag nyfiken på hur man egentligen kan lösa dessa problem - det verkar ju inte vara så enkelt som att "tillföra mer resurser"?

Jag är medveten om att problemet säkert har flera komponenter:
- Bristande förkunskaper från yngre årskurser
- En känsla bland eleverna att ekvationssystem inte kommer att hjälpa dem till ett bättre liv
- Segregation, där duktiga elever väljer prestigefyllda skolor
- Brist på förebilder

... men vad kan vi göra rent praktiskt med elever som nått högre årskurser och hamnat efter ordentligt? Om de inte tar hjälp som erbjuds?

Vi kan ju inte bara lägga oss ner och ge upp?

Starting off the new year by investing in a new asset class (at least for me):

I have recently become an investor in Insomnia Music Rights , run by Oscar Fransson and backed by some pretty cool investors.

Music rights have some interesting characteristics, comparable with bonds but with a built-in growth due to the growing streaming market.

Looking forward to seeing how it plays out!

A very simple business idea if you want to ride the AI wave:

Reach out to 50 Silicon Valley AI startups that you find promising and ask to become their reseller in your own region. Volunteer to help localize/translate their systems.

This should work especially well if the startup targets corporate customers and if you are in a small market that is not their immediate priority. The risk is of course that they'll think you'll just distract them from their current ICP market - that's why you need to reach out to many of them.

I must say this chart is changing a bit of how I used to view SaaS valuations:
