I've been building backlinks for 17 years, we'll sell over $4.5M of links this year, and I have NEVER seen Google reward authority and quality link signals like they are right now. 🔗

Yet most SEOs STILL buy links that do nothing… because Google neutralizes them.

Here’s my exact SOP for picking links that actually increase rank, ROI and AI visibility:

1 - Ignore Metrics, Do Your Due Diligence
Metrics are EASILY manipulated, even the “organic traffic” inside Ahrefs/SEMRush.

Check link profiles manually. If the site doesn’t rank anything in your niche → the link is a pillow, not power.

2 - Page-Level ROI Test
Before buying ANY link, ask: “How much can this link make me?”

In high-ARPU niches, you can budget links by targeting specific money/supporting pages based on price vs potential return.

3 - Anchor Safety = SERP Reality
Most SEOs choose anchors based on what they want.

Google rewards what the SERP shows is safe.

If the top 10 use:
 • Brand/URL → use brand/URL
 • Soft partials → use soft partials
 • UGC/parasites → stay conservative

Match the consensus. Don’t fight it.

And if competitors have ZERO direct links? Don’t force them unless the individual link has exceptional relevancy/trust.

4 - Outbound Link Neighbourhood Check
If a site leaks outlinks to casinos, CBD, crypto, Viagra — and you’re NOT in those industries, your link is likely devalued.

Google does track link neighbourhoods.

Sit next to trash, you ending up smelling like trash...

5 - Indexation & Editorial Health
Avoid sites that are:
 • Bleeding indexation
 • Losing keywords
 • Publishing AI slop
 • Pushing hundreds of posts with zero rankings

Power sites GROW. Zombie sites DRAIN.

6 - Traffic Stability (6-18 Months)
You don’t want a site that had traffic, you want one that KEEPS it.

Look for: smooth growth, logical seasonality, no update cliffs, no sudden programmatic spikes.

Stability = trust. Trust compounds.

7 - Internal Link Inclusion
A link on a page with no internal links = weak.

A link with supporting internals, topical hubs, and strong navigation delivers 3–10× more power.

Context = equity.

8 - Avoid Orphan Links
If the page has:
 • No internal links in or out
 • No social signals
 • No backlinks
…it’s basically a paid nofollow.

Orphan pages = orphan signals.

9 - The AI Visibility Test
If you want to appear in AI Overviews/model citations, your links must sit inside authoritative, entity-rich context:
- Editorial pages ✔
 - Topical clusters ✔
 - Structured data ✔
 - Strong authorship signals ✔
 - UGC authority domains ✔

In AI SEO, context around the link matters more than the link itself...

In traditional SEO though, most SEOs don’t have a link building problem, they have a link selection problem.

Google isn’t rewarding more links… Google is rewarding better signals.

Fix what you buy → fix what you rank!

The EU just launched an antitrust investigation into Google's site reputation abuse policy - Probably the most misguided search policy ever released...

Not allowing ANY third party content is stupid, as if outsourcing has never existed... And the enforcement was inconsistent at best.

This was PR and propaganda to bully publishers into compliance, not to "protect users" - If they really wanted to protect users, they wouldn't have rolled out AI Overviews with no fact checking or verification.

This is going to be very interesting though! Google will likely have to reveal even more of it's search secrets in court if they want to defend this, or they'll have to cancel the policy entirely in the EU.

One way or another, this is at least a small win for the publishers and SEOs that tried to make money the exact same way Google does, with monetization on top of third party content.

Three simple shifts that change everything

1. Replace "What do you do?" with “What are you passionate about?"

3. Practice "respectful curiosity": 
Approach each interaction wondering what you might learn, rather than what you might gain.

Channel selection matters if positioning and messaging are locked in.

5. Content Strategy

The messaging, visuals, and stories that attract, engage, and convert.
Content isn't just what you post. 
It's how you communicate value across every touchpoint.

6. Marketing Campaigns

Planned initiatives to achieve specific marketing goals. 
Campaigns are the execution layer. 
They only work when the foundation is already solid.

If you're a small brand just getting started, 
Running ads and posting on social might work temporarily. 

But if your goal is building something that scales to 8 figures and beyond...

It’s responsible.

You’re not meant to be available for everyone, all the time.
Protecting your time, focus, and mental space doesn’t make you cold — it makes you effective.

Boundaries aren’t walls — they’re filters.
They help you decide what gets your attention and what doesn’t.
Because not everyone deserves access to your time or mental space.

🚫 Situations where you need to stop wasting time and set boundaries:

Endless negativity.
If someone always brings problems but never solutions — stop being their emotional landfill. You can listen with empathy without absorbing their energy.

Unclear work expectations.
If you’re constantly saying “yes” to extra work, late calls, or unrealistic deadlines, you’re not being a team player — you’re burning out. Boundaries protect both your energy and your quality of work.

Relationships that drain instead of support.
When every conversation leaves you exhausted or doubting yourself, it’s a sign to step back. Not everyone is meant to stay in your circle forever.

🧭 Simple ways to set healthy boundaries:

Communicate clearly — not emotionally.
Boundaries aren’t ultimatums. They’re statements of respect.
→ “I can’t take calls after 7 PM.”
→ “I’ll join, but only if we can stick to 30 minutes.”

Protect your calendar.
Treat your time like money. If you wouldn’t give away $1,000 easily, don’t give away hours of focus to low-value conversations or tasks.

Practice saying no — kindly.
“No” isn’t rejection. It’s redirection.
You’re saying no to one thing so you can say yes to something that matters more.

Boundaries don’t push people away.
They teach people how to treat you — and show that you take yourself seriously.
