My career has taken me from the Marine Corps to NSA, U.S. Cyber Command, the U.S. House of Representatives, Mandiant, and Netflix. Across every role, one throughline: understanding adversaries, building high-trust teams, and translating complex problems into strategies leaders can act on.

Today, I advise organizations, governments, and research institutions on AI governance, agentic threat preparedness, and unifying safety and security into a single discipline. I contribute to global standards efforts including the EU AI Act (via OWASP AI) and lead executive education on cybersecurity and AI strategy at SANS.

I ended my podcast today.

I've always had the idea for a short-form video game news podcast and wanted it to work.

Work means sustainable and enjoyable. Not the most downloads ever.

And it wasn't. Video Game News Daily was my second game news podcast (first was Dead Drop Game News), my third attempt to make it sustainable, and it wasn't working for me. It didn't fit in my life in the way it deserved.

So I ended it today. And I did this by recording a message for the listeners to explain why, and to thank them for listening. Coz I loved that they found me, and appreciated their time.

And this isn't a humble brag. There's a message here for the people that keep talking about consistency, persistance and the toxically positive episode thresholds that say "You're now successful... when you hit the NEXT number of episodes..."

This podcast will be inactive. It has finished.
But I did not fail.
I didn't need to continue the podcast into eternity.
And it doesn't reflect poorly on my character.

No podcast guest app, workflow app, AI-automation tool or coaching course could have "fixed" my desire to continue the podcast. It was a human choice, and these choices are ok.

When we see inactive podcasts, or people quitting their shows, just remember that THIS show didn't need to be saved. It's doing what it wanted to do.

And we can't assume the industry is burning out podcasters by taking the number of active podcasts from a decades long database.

It's ok to stop.
