Association of Colleges

The Association of Colleges is England's leading membership organisation for Further Education Colleges. It was my first UK-focused gig, and I got to travel the country. 

As marketing director, I :
➡ Strategically developed the commercial division and its brand for growth
➡ Provide direction for a rebrand and delivered this complex project
➡ Improved all marketing channels to become more appealing to the AoC's audience of key decision-makers at colleges 
➡ Devised a new social media strategy, company-wide policy and training
➡ Oversaw sponsorship sales, media and agency partnerships
➡ Lead senior stakeholder initiatives and managed multi-functional teams

What were my highlights at the AoC?
➡ Successfully championed cultural change management initiatives, including setting up a new marketing team and introducing a new CRM system.
➡ Significantly increased brand awareness and engagement on LinkedIn and Twitter
➡ Developed new business partnerships that increased our revenue.
➡ Delivered one of the most commercially successful annual conferences, a 3-day event at the ICC in Birmingham with over 1800 delegates and 100 exhibitors.

This was the year when I not only oversaw the marketing of the flagship event for the AoC, but I also stepped up as the Events and Sponsorship director, supporting my teams in delivering these outstanding results. This is when I discovered my first grey hairs🤩!

The Institute of Directors

The IoD was the most established membership organisation for business leaders in the world. And this was my longest job title ever!

My role was to:
➡ Grow the IoD International brand through strategic planning and execution
➡ Increase international revenue by widening the IoD International network
➡ Create more value for commercial partners
➡ Reposition the international offering and brand 
➡ Raise awareness of the benefits of strategic affiliation with the IoD in the UK

What were my highlights during my time at the IoD?
➡ Secured and managed new training partnerships in Chile, Cyprus,Pakistan and Germany (working with Commerzbank!) 
➡ Strengthened links with the Chambers of Commerce, the European Confederation of Director's Association (ecoDa) and all global sister institutes.
➡ Successfully managed 50 course leaders and coaches across all franchise centres, and had strategic oversight for the quality of training delivery.

In my final year at the IoD, I was part of the senior leadership team who successfully set up a new training partnership in Chile to launch the IoD Certificate in Company Direction, the IoD's first commercially viable inroad into Latin America, which continues to flourish to this date. On reflection, flying to Chile to launch this new project, was my most favourite business trip during my corporate days.🌏

Head of Development & Global Partnerships

The IoD was the most established membership organisaton for business leaders in the world. 

My role was to:
➡ Manage the IoD’s network of international member branches and affiliates
➡ Oversee the development and delivery of annual marketing plans
➡ Launch a dedicated newsletter for our European branches and members
➡ Introduce DM as a recruitment tool
➡ Create a new central online DB to improve data management and lead generation 
➡ Design and run new product workshops for European committee members
➡ Build rapport and maintain relationships with strategic stakeholders
➡ Oversee the annual meetings for all global partners 

What were my highlights during my time at IoD?
➡ Expanded the offering for members in Belgium, Cyprus, Germany, France and the Netherlands. As a result membership recruitment flourished. 
➡ Created new strategic partnerships with foreign Chambers of Commerce to drive membership recruitment in these countries and completely overhauled the commercial business model for affiliation with the IoD.
➡ Boosted the benefits offering for international members and launched a new brand and marketing approach to deliver a stronger positioning for IoD International.
➡ Successfully increased engagement with IoD International by securing internal buy-in and additional resources. This was the time when I honed my stakeholder management skills🏆

Financial Times

In those days, The Financial Times (FT) was one of the world's leading business news and information organisations, recognised internationally for its authority, integrity and accuracy.

My role was to:
➡ Deliver sales leads and premium brand experience for the FT’s global advertising clients
➡ Manage above and below the line campaigns, product launches and brand guardianship - this was exciting! I worked with the most amazing marketing agencies. 
➡ Develop sales tools and implement key client communication programmes.
➡ Negotiate contra deals
➡ Manage agency relationships - what fun! I met so many talented people.
➡ Develop and oversee the annual marketing budget (and defend it during meetings with internal stakeholders 🤓

What were my highlights during my time at FT?
➡ Spearheaded the introduction of a new global media toolkit in print and online. This was a company first! 
➡ Created an extensive product sampling programme and innovative pitch support for sales teams. This made us part of the same time, rather than marketing vs sales teams.
➡ Launched an internal sales award for a team of 120 and online competitions for clients. This improved internal relationships and motivated our sales teams.
➡ Oversaw the below the line B2B communications programme for £10m UK re-launch of FT. This project was epic! 

PS. For years after my stint at the FT, I was introduced as "This is Nicole, who worked at the Financial Times".  I also had the best office view ever, overlooking the Thames.
