On paper, everything looked great.

But behind the scenes, I was exhausted, constantly putting out fires, and convinced the business would fall apart if I stepped away.

So I pushed harder, thinking that was the only way.

Then life forced me to stop.

I ran headfirst into a glass window. A concussion took me out for eight weeks. No emails, no meetings, no problem-solving. For the first time, I couldn’t step in to fix things.

And when I came back, I was shocked. The business hadn’t just survived. It had thrived.

That moment forced me to question everything.

I always thought the key to scaling was working harder and building better systems. And systems did help. But what really made the difference wasn’t the business. It was me.

I had built a company that depended on me, not because it had to, but because I didn’t know how to let go. I believed that stepping back meant losing control. That if I wasn’t involved in everything, things would fall apart.

That belief had to change.

Learning to trust my team, step back, and stop being the bottleneck wasn’t easy. But once I did, everything changed.

The systems worked because I let them. My team thrived because I gave them space. And the business grew faster than ever, not because I was in every decision, but because I wasn’t.

Now, I help founders do the same.

Most founders come to me because they feel stuck. They’re scaling, but at the cost of their time, health, and freedom. It doesn’t have to be that way.

The InfoSec program's base foundation is centered around org-wide risk management.  Risk management includes identification and prioritization of risks through a well-organized risk assessment and corrective action plan.  The corrective action plan outlines the actions necessary to remediate, mitigate, transfer or accept the prioritized risks and provides a roadmap/timeline of activities.

Assemble and manage a team of 4 InfoSec professionals dedicated to the implementation of the Information Security program in a predominantly cloud and SaaS based environment.   We are focused on managing cybersecurity threats through active monitoring and response, managing vulnerabilities through a well defined vulnerability management plan and providing simple and effective communication to the  end users. 

We believe our teammates in the organization are not the weakest link, rather our last line of defense.  Our mantra is transparency and inclusion, to make everyone feel they are an invested part of the solution in keeping the organization secure.

Develop a well-defined Information Security Program based on HITRUST CSF for HIPAA compliance and org-wide risk management.  Managed a balance of resources between dotted line internal resources and external managed services providers.  Provided guidance to the infrastructure engineers and IT team on security implementations.

Served as the hospital's Information Security Officer, participating in Compliance Committe activities and providing guidance on policy aligning with the HIPAA Security Rule.  

Provided updates to the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors on Information Security.

I am a certified Information Security professional specializing in building a risk management-based Information Security Management Program.  My focus is mainly on healthcare aligning with the HITRUST CSF to comply with HIPAA regulations.  

Served as the organizations Information Security Officer providing guidance on matters related to the HIPAA Security Rule and Cybersecurity best practices.  Conducted a HITRUST CSF risk assessment as a foundation for developing the Information Security Program, based on managing organization wide risks.

Served as the Information Security Officer for the organization, participating as a standing member of the Security and Privacy Commitee consisting of Chief Legal Counsel, Compliance Officer, CIO and the Privacy Officer.  

Implemented required policies and procedures to adhere for HIPAA compliance.  Conducted a series of HITRUST CSF risk assessments and developed a risk management strategy to demonstrate progress in remediating and managing org-wide risks.

Managed the infrastructure for media asset management and content distribution application for the largest studios in the Entertainment industry.  Served as the Information Security Officer related to Information Security matters.  Responsible for meeting the stricter security standards of the organization's large studio clientele.

Managed the Infrastructure for the company's suite of application which included a formulary and plan comparison tool that allowed Medicare enrollees to select the most advantageous health plans based on the medication requirements.  Managed a team of 4 that supported an infrastructure that processed over a million Medicare enrollees during open enrollment periods.  

Served as the Information Security Officer and was responsible for implementing the security controls as required by CMS auditors.

I am a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP, since 2011) in good standing with over 32 years of Information Technology experience.  My focus over the past 13+ years has been in the implementation of Information Security Programs in the highly regulated healthcare industry.  The Information Security Program is based on the HITRUST CSF and focuses primarily on Risk Management, from identification, prioritization, development of the "Corrective Action Plan" (actions necessary to remediate, reduce, transfer or accept org-wide risks) and finally the operationalizing of the security controls.  I am very excited to bring my experiences with risk based information security management to companies that are investing in a cloud infrastructure.  I have extensive hands on experience in implementing security controls in the Microsoft 365 and Azure environment utilizing Microsoft Defender suite of security tools with Sentinel to achieve Zero Trust principals. 

History:
I started my career working on trading floors for several Investment Banks in the San Francisco area during the Dot Com Boom.   My experience in these demanding and fast paced environments translated well to startup companies.  These startups had a small workforce with enterprise scale infrastructure and provided services to government organizations and large corporations.   Since attaining my CISSP certification, I have refocused my attention on Information Security, using my technical experience to help smaller companies comply with the security requirements of their larger customer base and federal  & state healthcare regulatory agencies.
