In the early 2000s,  my focus was on growing my skills, climbing the ladder, and being where I needed to be to get the job done. 

In 2009, I burned out hard. 

My new plan was to work for equity in tech start-ups and become financially independent.

Swing and Miss, the first start-up company I chose to work for, was going nowhere (equity worth zero). 

What happened? Did I screw up everything?

I chose the company because I was passionate about its mission, but I had not examined it further. I had no real plan.

My next step was to call people that I knew had been successful in working for equity in tech and see what was different in their "playbook."

April 19th, 2012 Splunk had a break-out IPO

April 20th, 2012 feelings of anxiety and fear creep in about how to manage the newly generated wealth. 

I had to figure out how to get real income (real estate) into my portfolio. I needed something sending me checks.

Key lessons learned after the first IPO:
 -How to invest in private equity real estate
 -Set up my family for generational wealth
 -Own the result (don't put my future in someone else's hands)

I climbed the ladder to become a CIO.

"I wish I could retire."

I hear this all the time from people with $3M-$5M-$7M portfolios.

They're brilliant at building wealth.

But they feel trapped in their jobs.

Here's what they don't realize:

The result? $200K+ annually in tax-efficient cashflow.

It's not a secret method.

➤ That means 52% is locked in their primary residence.
➤ This doesn't generate the cashflow needed to replace a paycheck.

50% of your net worth in company stock isn't a strategy.

Last week I closed a $5000 client via LinkedIn DM

but most of you can't

because when I see my or my clients' LinkedIn inboxes, it looks like everyone copy-pasted the same script.

Long, robotic, “hope you’re doing well” messages that feel like spam dressed up as sales.

So here’s something nobody’s doing and it works crazy well.

Send a 'Humour + Confident'

Example:

"If Algo were a person, then I could've beat it up...for not showing your account before in my feed.

Coz, the type of content you're creating is what I want to see in my feed 🫡

That's why sending you request to read your posts every day.

Hope you won’t mind."

No intro. No “Hi, I’d love to connect.” Nothing.

Why? 

Because 'Humour + Confident' have the highest acceptance rate on LinkedIn.

Once they accept, wait 2–3 days.

Then go to their profile on the LinkedIn app.

Hit → Message → Take a Video.

Now record a 30-second personalized video (not 60 - keep it short).

Start with an observation, not an introduction.

Example:

"Hey [Name], saw you're based in [City], I was just there last month. Beautiful place. Are you also in [related industry/event] or.. ?”

That’s it.

No pitch. 
No over-talking. 
Just curiosity, relevance, and confidence.

If they don’t respond in a few days, send a one-liner:

“Looks like my video completely missed the mark 😅”

You’ll be surprised how many people reply.

And if video feels uncomfortable, do the same thing using a voice note.

Because hardly anyone does it and that’s exactly why it works.

This simple strategy gets a '40% response-to-meeting rate.'

No automation. 
No spam. 
Just real human connection.
