Perceive, Inc.

I have been working on AI and video products since 2012 and founded Perceive in 2015 with $1.5M in research grants. Since then I have had the pleasure of working with a world class team and huge companies in creating a new definition of customer experience through video.

As CTO and principal investigator on Perceive's NSF SBIR grants, I was built the initial implementation of our people tracking technology and then was responsible for guiding our technology development. I had the opportunity to hire our amazing founding engineering team of five people and manage them week in and week out.

At Qualcomm I built tools to help the Android Camera Power and Performance team analyze the power consumption of algorithms within the camera hardware and software subsystems.  I also worked on modifying the build system for the software of a new chipset so that it could be tested on multiple platforms.

I worked on two projects during my time at HP Vertica Systems. The first was a parser for loading HP ArcSight CEF files into Vertica. The second was the development of a new encoding algorithm to more efficiently store string key-value pairs on disk.

I am a computer engineer by training interested in AI, growth and infra. I believe great technology is not just built, it’s also marketed and sold. Currently I am leading Go To Market Engineering for Clay.

Previously I was the Head of Growth for Vantage, the cloud cost observability platform and prior to that I led Growth at Arctype before it was acquired by ClickHouse.

I started a company called Perceive which was building infrastructure for cashierless checkout stores. Perceive was awarded a Phase I and Phase II NSF SBIR grant to develop the technology behind our product, including deep learning based human action recognition and multi camera scene reconstruction.

I received a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Purdue University. While at Purdue I performed research with Dr. Yung-Hsiang Lu on multimedia systems and distributed video analysis. We published several papers about our work and its applications. I carried out some of this research at Qualcomm, as part of the Android camera power and performance team.

Really proud and humbled to see Clay hit $100M ARR 🚀. I started using Clay in the summer of 2022 and quickly learned I was able to build some of the craziest growth plays I had ever seen.

Admittedly, paying Clay $300/mo to enrich Kubernetes users didn't exactly seem like something that a $100M business could be built upon.

But there was a deeper aspect to Clay that spoke to my engineering background, my sense that the GTM software stack was quite inflexible, and the idea that GTM folks could be builders too.

Three years later the market has come around to all of these. I talk to customers all day about how to architect their systems and data the way ~they~ see fit. You no longer have to choose one dataset, a static list of industries, or the same old plays that everybody is running. You can do GTM your way.

That degree of creative freedom is always what appealed to me as a marketer and engineer. I believe we can make this the way all companies operate - one tricky systems and data problem at a time.
