Once I turned 40 I realized I wasted a lot of time chasing titles and comp packages. 

The biggest thing holding me back was I'm not wired to be an employee.

I was fortunate in my 20s to have autonomy, managing the PNL of an eight figure business and turn it around after a disgruntled manager let things fall apart on his way out. 

I managed to lead a second turnaround after that in B2B closing 6-8 figure deals. 

But once Covid hit, I got laid off and leveraged LinkedIn to break into tech. They tried to pigeon hole me in mostly just sales roles or leadership with not much authority over meaningful budget. 

After a handful of companies ran into funding issues, I did end up at a publicly traded company just to quickly realize this was not the path for me.

I wasn't going to put the company before my family and realized I needed to make a big change. I had a friend in real estate doing extraordinarily well. I quit my secure job and I went to work for commission only to learn the business.

There's been a lot of ups and downs, and since then I've launched my own real estate business, briefly a cleaning company that I sold, and now partnered back with my mentor to launch a real estate community to help those learn the same.

I am no longer money focused as my priority is building a life around being present with my wife and kids and only doing work I enjoy. 

While I don't want to be broke. I realized my family would rather have me be present physically, mentally, and emotionally over having a larger house, more stuff and even more vacations. 

It's a new path I'm walking and still learning every day and hope to help others do the same. Fortunately I realized this with my daughters being 10 and 6. Hoping to inspire others to realize the same before it's too late.

The obstacle is the way. 

When I was 19, my father passed away unexpectedly.

I had 5 siblings and a stay-at-home mom to take care of.

Lucky for me, I had spent many years with my father at his hair salon that he opened in 1987, where at age 9, I learned how to answer the phone, book appointments, and greet 6-foot giants with a firm handshake.

However, with no barber degree or management experience, I was thrown into the deep end and had to learn how to swim quickly.

I made more mistakes than I would like to admit, but fast forward 7 years, I had learned some priceless things:

-Gave over 12,000 haircuts having a 97% return rate and a book of clients consisting of leaders and CEOs at Concur, Zones, Microsoft, Expedia, and many more.
-Became the top men's barber in Bellevue (35+ Yelp reviews :))
-Learned how to run a business, manage employees and satisfy customers

This gave me a unique perspective on business and life in general.

I persevered to gain entry into the UW Foster School of Business and ended up graduating with an emphasis in Sales and Marketing.

I knew I had a love for tech and a knack for sales, so when a client of mine, who was an SDR at DocuSign offered to refer me, I did not say no.

I was the fastest promoted SDR at DocuSign, lived through my first IPO with them, and learned a whole lot about SaaS.

After mass blasting emails from Outlook, we got Outreach at Docusign. 

I fell in love with the product and ended up getting hired by the VP of Sales, on the spot during my interview.

Never give up and always give 100%. 

You never know where life takes you.

It feels different when you build something of your own… especially when it’s around things you actually care about. Faith. Fitness. Tech sales. Fatherhood. Real talk.

Every few days Futhallah or I get a random DM from someone we didn’t expect saying they love the podcast. “You guys just flow so well. 

Even if I don’t relate to every topic, I enjoy listening.” That part has surprised me the most.

Deen & Deals as a side project Podcast after work and weekends…  has been ridiculously fun. 

I’m loving being a total beginner in something again. 

This whole thing forced me to learn video editing, how to make YouTube thumbnails, use Canva, cut short form clips, and understand the difference between mp4/mp3/wav.

Talking about things I actually enjoy… and hearing people find value in it… that feels rewarding.

Most podcasts don’t make it past 20 episodes. 

We’ve posted 4 and recorded 6. 

Already 25 % there.

the best morning routine as a tech sales dad ! 👨

I often struggle with prioritizing and getting ideas out of my head into action.

And trust me, I've tried many different productivity systems and to-do list apps to make it work

Here's what I found works best for me.:

2 apps: Google Tasks + Google Doc

Google Tasks is simple and easy, and I make a tab for every part of my life:
-One for my work
-One for my personal
-One for my side projects

Whenever an idea comes to mind of something I want to do, I take the stress away from remembering and just open Google Tasks and put it in the right category.

Often times the best ideas come to us when we're walking, in the shower, or doing something totally unrelated to work. 

I made this Google Doc called "brain dump/content ideas." 

When I see something online that I really like, that I want to repurpose and make it my own and put my own spin on it, I just open up my Google Doc and I put it in there. 

That way next time I have my laptop staring at a blank screen for posting or my newsletter, I have exactly what I need and I don't have to start from scratch. 

Makes it easy.
