With everything that is currently going on in the world, we all need a bit of Doug Skoke in our lives.  

Doug is the founder of LFG Now, an executive search firm, and the creator of the Blue Collar Buddha -  a brand name so good that it feels like it's been around for generations.

To say this podcast impacted me is an understatement.  Doug has so much soul and tells his stories with such humour, even in the darkest of times.  And boy, has he had some.  But as he says, "you learn through what you go through", and I believe this is the source of his depth and understanding of the human condition.

The fastest way to fall behind in a complex environment is to move without reorienting. Reactivity feels productive, but it quietly locks leaders into the same cycle of rushed observations, shallow decisions, and mediocre actions.

Elite performers take a brief pause to orient before committing. In that window, they step back, update the mental map, stress test assumptions, and ask, “What has changed since the last time I faced a problem like this?”

Try this experiment for one week:
- Schedule a five-minute orientation pause before your most important daily decision.
- Clarify the fundamental objective, the constraints, and the second-order effects.

Most New Year business resolutions sound inspiring but die by February because they do not change how leaders allocate time, attention, or decision rights. This year can be different if you commit to a small number of execution ready shifts.

Here are three high leverage resolutions for 2026:
1) Replace at least one recurring meeting each week with a deep work block focused on a single strategic priority.
2) Automate or delegate one low value task every month, freeing capacity for client, team, or innovation work.
3) Choose one key metric for each quarter and align projects, incentives, and reviews around it until behaviour changes.
