As General Counsel at Malbek, I lead the legal function at a company building the future of contract lifecycle management. I also advise the CEO and COO on strategy, contribute to product development, and shape how we bring CLM technology to market. My day job keeps me grounded in the real challenges legal teams face when adopting new tools.



Outside Malbek, I teach, write, and speak to help legal professionals and technology companies make better decisions about AI, automation, and digital enablement.

AI Clauses Guide

Every time a lawyer asks an AI tool for case support, the tool delivers an answer with complete confidence. 

It formats the citation correctly. It names plausible parties. It describes a holding that tracks the legal issue perfectly. And sometimes, the case does not exist.

The challenge is not the fabricated citation you can catch with a quick database search. 

It is the real case with a subtly misrepresented holding, or the accurate legal principle supported by an invented authority. 

I wrote a guide that breaks this problem apart: 

-What hallucinations are at a technical level.

-Why the architecture of large language models makes them structural rather than fixable.

AI Implementation Guide

Most legal teams do evaluate AI vendors before signing. The problem is often the evaluation isn't thorough enough.

I wrote a guide that covers the parts of vendor evaluation that standard processes tend to skip: 

Whether the company behind the tool will survive the next funding cycle, what "99% accuracy" actually measures (and what it hides), how to tell if a SOC 2 report is doing real work or just checking a box, and what your regulatory exposure looks like.

As a leader at Alexi I contributed to strategic direction and initiatives, and lead a team of legal research lawyers. We worked cross-functionally with engineers to develop legal AI products that satisfy the exacting needs of law firms. 

I was responsible for managing my team's resources and output, including growing it to a max 9 employees and 7 contractors via full cycle recruitment. I oversaw the contractor budget and was responsible for the quality and speed of work product. I proposed new product ideas and features, acted as a facilitator between teams, and I also acted as an evangelist for our products. I streamlined operations and improved outcomes for Alexi. Data-driven initiatives I adopted reduced turnaround time and increased throughput by over 20% each.

As the company's first full-time employee I helped play a key role in development of processes, systems and internal products for the creation and evaluation of AI driven legal memos. I wore many hats and not only wrote and ensured the quality of thousands of legal memos, but also helped with marketing and lead generation. My efforts gained the company a number of high usage clients and helped drive better lead generation outcomes. I participated in selection of additional team members as well as ensuring they were able to get up to speed efficiently.

I was hired to complete anonymized legal research for high end law firms in Ontario towards the end of my life in full time private practice. Areas of focus were commercial litigation as well as bankruptcy and insolvency law. While in this role I helped generate publicity for the company with speaking opportunities.

We founded a startup to develop and commercialize virtual presence technologies for the legal market. It was specifically intended to increase efficiency of court appearances. We bootstrapped the company using our own funds and tangentially related products (digitized law books). I set product direction and collaborated with co-founders to determine business direction. We conducted interviews with judges and regional senior judges as well as lawyers to determine wants and where existing video systems were falling short. We built and marketed a digital version of the rules of civil procedure for litigators to be able to access on the fly in courts.

After being hired back by the boutique litigation firm I articled at, I ran insurance, personal injury, and commercial litigation files from inception to settlement with mentorship from highly esteemed Lexpert ranked lawyers. I assisted on construction and employment files too, where I helped ensure excellent client outcomes. I attended and assisted with 3 trials (2 jury, 1 non-jury) involving personal injury and real estate litigation. I suggested strategies which significantly improved our clients' positions on an array of matters. I brought the firm clients and also helped it break into new practice areas. My effective advocacy earned me repeat business from clients.
