With inflation, it won't meaningfully change your lifestyle, but it's just enough to feel "fair."

And for many companies, it’s a rounding error.

That's why the "peanut butter raises" trend is so interesting to me: moving away from merit-based increases and toward flat raises across the board.

I ran a poll on this 2 weeks ago.
1,400+ of you voted.

Only 9% expect a raise above 5%.
59% expect 0–2%.
32% expect 3–5%.

That’s not a long-term retention strategy.

As I shared with CNBC: Companies may not feel the impact of “peanut butter” raises right now - especially in a slow hiring market. But market's shift and people will remember how you treated them.

Top performers always know their market value.
The best ones won’t wait around.

When the market shifts, top talent will have options.
And they'll remember who valued them.

My advice for companies: Don't confuse a tough job market with loyalty. And don't mistake retention for satisfaction. I'm talking with so many folks who are "job hugging" but will move quickly when the right opportunity comes along.

And for executives feeling undervalued: Keep building your visibility. Keep tracking your wins. Keep your network warm.

Some companies say they care about employees -  until you look at what they actually do. Understand what I mean by that…
 

 
Real care isn’t something you say - it’s something you show.
 
And yet, many companies still believe that vague promises or surface-level perks are enough.

If you’re in the middle of a job search (or even reconsidering the role you’re in), here are a few things worth remembering:
✔️ Have clarity about your non-negotiables - whether it’s flexibility, autonomy, boundaries, or opportunities to grow.
 
✔️ Pay attention to how companies talk about care. If their only examples are perks, be cautious. Things like a yoga session, pizza Friday, a “mental health day,” or an office ping-pong table don’t fix a culture of burnout.
 
✔️ Stay connected to your life outside of work. If there’s no time or energy left for movement, rest, hobbies, or relationships… something’s off.

✔️ Don’t settle. You deserve a role that aligns with your needs today, not just the version of you from 5 years ago.

✔️ Be honest with yourself. Sometimes the job isn’t bad — but it’s no longer right for you.
 
Because no, one small perk can’t compensate for a culture of always-on, low-trust, or unrealistic expectations.

What to do when you get rejected from a remote job?

 

Getting rejected from a remote job hurts.
Especially when you are a senior level professional.

When you did “everything right” and the rejection came, it’s hard to understand why.
And no, it is not a sign that you are not good enough.
 
The remote job market is extremely competitive right now.
Most rejections have very little to do with your value or your experience.

What matters is HOW you respond after the rejection.
 
If the rejection happens right after applying,
It is usually an automatic rejection (have you heard about ATS?).
No feedback. No explanation. Nothing to fix there. So try to move on.

But if the rejection happens after at least one interview,
that is a different story.

That is where most candidates miss an opportunity.

Senior level professionals often disappear after a rejection.

They feel ashamed.
So they move on quietly.
They burn a bridge without realizing it.
 
A “no” now is not a “no” forever.
The same company can hire you later.
For a different role, on a different team, and sometimes even months later.

But only if you handle the rejection the right way.

I have a rejection message template that I share only with paying clients.
It helps you stay professional, visible, and remembered.
I have never shared it for free before.

How to negotiate flexibility without losing salary


 
Many professionals avoid negotiating their job offer because they are afraid the company will withdraw it.
 
In reality, that almost never happens.
 
Most companies actually expect candidates to negotiate.
And when you don’t, you might be leaving money and benefits on the table.
 
The professionals who negotiate usually end up with better conditions than those who accept the first offer immediately.
 
And when it comes to remote jobs, negotiation goes far beyond salary.
 
Some examples of benefits that you can negotiate for remote jobs:
Home office setup budget
Access to co-working spaces
Courses and certifications paid by the company
Bonuses or stock options
Gym or wellness benefits
 
The best moment to finalize your negotiation is after you receive the offer and before you sign it.
 
But here is what many people overlook:
 
Negotiation doesn’t start when the offer arrives.
 
It starts much earlier.
With how you position yourself in your resume, LinkedIn profile, networking conversations, and personal brand.
 
That is the foundation that gives you leverage later.

A pre-screening interview is not “just a quick call”. Understand what it really is.


 
Treating a pre-screening interview as something you don’t need to prepare for is probably the reason why many senior professionals get eliminated early.

Save this post now to check when you have a pre-screening interview.

This short conversation has a very clear purpose:
To decide if you move forward… or not.

In 10 to 20 minutes, recruiters are checking three things:
– If the role still makes sense for you
– If you actually meet the requirements
– If your motivation is clear and aligned

At senior level, the biggest mistake I see is over-explaining.
Long answers.
Full career stories.
Trying to prove everything at once.

A pre-screening interview is not the moment to impress with volume.
It is the moment to show clarity.

You should be able to answer, clearly and briefly:
Why this role?
Why you?

How can you solve the company’s problem?
 
Don’t underestimate the importance of preparing for your next pre-screening interview.

If you’re waiting to feel “motivated” to change your career… you might be taking the wrong path. Understand why.


 
Most senior professionals think motivation comes first.
Then the remote job search follows.

That belief is quietly keeping many experienced leaders stuck in roles they have already outgrown.

If you are waiting to feel fully confident, clear, or “100% ready” to pursue a remote senior level role, you might be waiting longer than you should.

What I see repeatedly with senior and leadership-level clients is this:
Motivation does not create action.
Action creates motivation.

Clarity about remote roles comes after you start exploring them.
Confidence grows once you put yourself in front of the market, not while you stay in your current role overthinking the next step.

At senior level, the real challenge is rarely skills or experience.
It is inaction.

Maybe your current job is stable. Your job title is strong and looks good “on paper”. The pay is probably decent. And you live a comfortable life.
So the urgency to move might never fully arrive.
Because your situation is not horrible.

But you know it could be much better…

And months or years pass while you tell yourself:
“I’ll start when I feel more sure”
“I’ll start when I know 100% what is the next step in my career”.

Remote careers are built by professionals who move with 60% clarity, not 100%.
They test, adjust, and refine along the way.

If you want more freedom, flexibility, and control over where and how you work, waiting for motivation will not get you there.
