2 stupidly simple subject line hacks that blow up email revenue

(We've tested these across 70+ brands)

Most people overthink subject lines.

They spend 20 minutes crafting the perfect clever line that nobody opens.

Here's what actually works:

Hack #1: ALL CAPS subject lines

Sounds aggressive, right? But the data doesn't lie.

We ran a quick test on a welcome email for one of our clients.

Original subject line: 65.6% open rate

ALL CAPS version: 71.49% open rate

Same email. Same audience. Just uppercase letters.

The winning variation did $22,174 in revenue.

Hack #2: Use prefixes

RE:, JUST IN:, INSIDE:, FYI:

These work because they hijack pattern recognition in the inbox.

One client tested an ALL CAPS prefix vs lowercase:

I started Selfmastered in a garage in Spain in the fall of 2019.

No investors or co-founders.

In total, I’ve invested around $145K over six years.

For four years, the people closest to me said the same thing:

"Why would you spend so much on courses? Don’t they all say the same thing?”

"Dude, you could have put down payments on two properties in Madrid with that money wtf are you doing?"

All well-meaning.

Most tactically right (maybe 4-5 of the 12 or so programs were genuinely worth it)

Every delay, every avoidance loop, every "I'll get to it tomorrow” is the product of a brain that hasn't been trained yet to move as fast as the company needs.

A lack of speed also compounds: silently, daily, in the wrong direction. Because you set the rhythm: your speed becomes the culture, your hesitation becomes the ceiling.

Every person below you calibrates to your pace, whether they know it or not.

Which means if you want a fast company, you don't fix the systems first or throw bodies at the problem.

Otherwise, you end up building a bloated company that extends slowness.

You train the brain first.

Patrick Collison, CEO of Stripe, put it simply: "Speed is a competitive advantage. Moving fast is a habit."

Habits are trained. So is execution speed.

-Doing outreach to strangers
-Selling on the phone
-Leading your team every day

The human brain didn't evolve for modern discomfort.

It tags most friction as a threat.

So unless you rewire that bias, you'll unconsciously build a life that avoids it.

One client spent a month rebuilding outreach systems to reduce rejection.

He wasn't trying to get better at sales. He was trying to feel safer.

Which is completely human. But expensive.

Because the moment your threat response starts running the company, your calendar fills with low-risk motion… and your pipeline slows down.

Elite operators aren't superhuman.

They typically don’t work harder, have higher IQs, or better “luck” than average founders.

They've just wired a different default:
-Working on the high-leverage tasks = non-negotiable
-Friction = information, not danger
-Uncertainty = part of the job, not a personal flaw

Rewiring that threat response is what makes you consistent.

And consistency is what makes results compound.

Once my client stopped letting rejection define him, he became relentless: reaching out to 30 strangers every day, no matter what, and iterating on his messaging weekly until calls started piling up.

6 months later, his revenue had 3Xed and he had just delegated outreach to a team member.

Same positioning. Same marketing channel. Same everything… except the volume and speed of iteration.

The dirty little secret of elite operators is that they just don’t suffer through their work.

They’ve rewired themselves to have a blast doing the hardest things that guarantee they can't fail.

What's the friction you're unconsciously avoiding right now?

Most founders I work with can spot themselves in at least 7 of these.

Not because they're lazy. Not because they don't care.

Because knowing what to do and being able to consistently do it are two completely different skills.

One is information. 

The other is training.

You've probably spent years on the information side. 

Courses, books, coaches, strategies.

But your execution capacity, your ability to sit down, do the hard thing, and repeat it without resistance, that's never been trained.

And once you fix it, everything else you already know starts working.

When everything’s on fire, the operator breaks before the plan does.

You can learn tactics anywhere.

Funnels.

Sales scripts.

That’s not the edge.

Without trained performance and recovery systems, every push leads to the same place: Burnout.

Most founders don’t fail from bad strategy.

There's a gap in your head.

Between the thing you know you need to do and the thing you actually do today.

Some founders have almost no gap. 

They see the move, they make it. No drama, no spiral, no three hours of "getting ready to get ready."

And they stay stuck not because they lack knowledge or talent, but because that gap keeps swallowing everything.

That gap is a better predictor of your success than your offer, your niche, or your marketing.

The founders you admire didn't get there because they were smarter. 

They just stopped letting distance build between knowing and doing.

That's the whole game, honestly.

Founders are told to optimize in the wrong order.

They start with goal-setting frameworks.

Then build elaborate productivity systems, such as Notion dashboards. Time-blocking. App stacks.

And when the next crisis hits (a key employee quits, a deal falls through, your biggest client churns), it all collapses

Goals are necessary, but require clarity, which you don’t always have.

Systems are crucial, but still require activation energy.

Goals and systems are insufficient if they don’t lead to upgrading your wiring.

But your wiring runs automatically.

It's how your brain operates without conscious effort.

A founder who defaults to deep work at 8 am doesn’t “decide” to focus.

They sit down and automatically focus deeply.

A founder who defaults to “no” for non-critical requests doesn’t rely on willpower to protect their calendar.

They mentally default to handling it.
