I usually find myself working in research or innovation teams due to attention deficient and boredom with solvable problems. I very much enjoy speaking, teaching, and sharing things I've learned with others.

The root of Cory’s passion for the connected nature of tech enhancing the future of work began in the early 2000s in robotics research initiatives for the FedEx Institute of Technology. He went on to pioneer mobile helping enterprises develop strategies to mobilize staff workflows and collaboration in the pre-enterprise project management app era of “BYOD to work” in the mid-2010s. Seeing the promise of physical and digital integration, Cory brought physical products to life leading the Connected Technologies division at a hardware development firm. Beginning in 2018 Cory began researching and leading the Future of Work at Gigster as VP of Product and Research advocating for leveling outdated hierarchical structures within organizations. Cory is a futurist with the goal to continuously question the status quo. His research answers the questions that will define how the innovations of today will impact the work of tomorrow.

It was truly an honor to be invited by Hayden Brown and the Upwork team to come speak at their investor day on how AI is shaping the future of work. 

A couple key points:

1. Code is no longer a defensive moat:
Operate under the hypothesis that the cost to generate code is going to $0. 

Capex to write code used to be a valid, defensible moat but with the insane progress AI code gen is making that's quickly going away. We're already seeing companies come out of Y Combinator with 2 founders and fleshed out platforms that in the past would have taken $Xm in funding to build. 

Example: 
We've been able to completely re-write a legacy java app using Cognition's Devin tool in about a day.

2. The best ideas will (finally) win
Research led companies will win. Full stop. 

This doesn't mean go hire a bunch of PhD's. 
What I mean by this is companies that foster internal experimentation and validate ideas with data can now quickly accelerate on those to gain market share....and it's literally never been easier to do this. 

Example: 
We had a hypothesis that injecting business context into GitHub Copilot would improve it. So, in 6 weeks we ran a study using 300 flex talent resources from Upwork and proved it. Then we doubled down and brought that to market. 

We had a whitepaper, empirical evidence, and usage data that gave us an edge. The code was the easy part.

Why I do what I do:

Freedom has always been my north star.

It’s what led me from sociology and history into marketing. Trading academia for creative freedom and financial independence.

It’s what moved me from running my own agency in Hungary to leading teams at global agencies in London. Seeking a bigger stage, not just a safer one.

I promised myself that I will share a shoutout once a week to those whom I love or admire professionally. This time, it's beehiiv - their winter release has bigger anticipation than the newest AI model. 

So why the love? 
Let's start from the inside.

We (by we, I mean AI Ready CMO, which is technically Torsten & me)...
so we started this newsletter thing a couple of months ago. 

We both agreed on 3 basic principles:

1) Editorial authority on level 10,000x 

We are 40+
We have a reputation.
We don't f around.
Goal is to protect and elevate this. 
So we write about things we believe in.
Ideally, it will also make money (but belief comes first).

2) Keep it simple stupid

We don't have too much time for this.
So we want the least amount of friction. 
The easiest platform wins.

3) It's a business

I live in Tuscany, Torsten lives in Bali.
We have fams, a life, friendz, etc.
We don't do work just for the sake of it.
Tbh work is kinda overrated anyway. 
So if we do work, we give 200%. 
This is true for the newsletter.
We treat it as a business.
It's not a 'hobby' - it's a side business.

Last point was the selling point of beehiiv. 
We were thinking about Substack, Kit, etc. 
None of them came close to beehiiv. 

Here's why:

Marketing is leading the highest ROI for AI (according to McKinsey's new 2025 AI report). Yet, only 6% of companies see true transformation. They do 1 thing fundamentally different:

Yeah, I know you've started working on them in May.

- You killed the linear approval cycle
- You switched to rapid collaboration with AI

- You switched to unlimited variations with AI
- Your creative briefing is not a Word document
- Your creative briefing IS training data for AI

Almost no one is doing this.

The cheerleaders promising 10x productivity. 
The doomers predicting job apocalypse.
There is a middle path in AI.

Almost no one talks about the messy middle.
Where the actual work happens.

This is why we've sat down with Jing Hu.
We discussed what AI adoption really looks like:
(without the hype or the hysteria)

Here's what we unpacked:

→ AI raises the floor, but rarely the ceiling 

→ The more effortlessly you use AI, the harder it becomes to think without it 

→ AI trained on consensus always gives you...consensus (hello, mediocrity) 

→ You need to optimize for AI discovery while maintaining human authenticity

AI can handle execution at 70-80%. 
But idea generation, polish, and release decisions? 
Still firmly human territory.

As Jing put it: 

"If you no longer decide where your life is to go, what to say, and you no longer have your voice—what's the point?"

The middle path isn't sexy. 
It doesn't generate viral posts or sell miracle courses.
But it's where smart marketers are building advantage.
