I’m visiting a South African childhood friend in the north of Finland at the moment.

Everything is completely white. Snow everywhere. Proper winter.

The kind of cold that makes Cape Town feel like another planet.

But here’s the thing…
He has a rule.

Every Friday = braai.

Doesn’t matter if it’s rain, wind, sunshine… or minus 15 in the snow.

The fire gets lit.

So that’s exactly what we did on Friday.

Standing in the snow, gloves on, smoke in the air, cooking on the braai.
Honestly… surreal experience. Never done that before.

But also strangely normal.
Because I guess it’s true what they say:

You can take a South African out of the country…
but you can’t take the South African out of the person.

The Braai is just part of our DNA.

There’s something special about putting South Africans in a room together abroad.

On Wednesday night we hosted a Lekker Network meetup in Amsterdam, and once again I was reminded why we keep doing these around the world.

We had members join from across Europe, and Jesse Green even flew in from Spain just to be there, which says a lot about the kind of community we’re building.

But what stood out most to me wasn’t the turnout.

It was the energy in the room.

At the end of the evening, someone said to me:
 “What I loved most is that nobody spoke negatively about South Africa. It was all positive, growth-focused conversations.”
And that really stuck with me.

Because the reality is, there’s no shortage of people talking down the country.

But somehow, the people drawn into this community are the ones focused on building, connecting, opening doors, and creating opportunity.

That mindset is powerful.

And it’s exactly what we want these global meetups to foster.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Wednesday night in Amsterdam.

It was a brilliant evening, and just the first of many global gatherings we’re planning this year.

This week the Lekker Network hosts its first-ever Annual Summit.

And honestly… I had no idea how big a task this would be.

We launched The Lekker Network on 14 March last year, and as we approach our first anniversary, we decided to celebrate it by bringing the community together for a two-day summit.

What started as a simple idea turned into something massive.

Speakers flying in from around the world.

More than 170 members travelling in, locally and internationally.

A two-day programme with talks, activities, and events.

And 270 attendees joining us in total.

I’ve never organised an event like this before.
And here are a few lessons I’ve learned along the way:

1️⃣ It will cost more than you think
 Whatever budget you set… add 30–40%. There are always unexpected costs.

2️⃣ People don’t read emails
Coordinating hundreds of people through email alone is chaos. Next year, it will be email + WhatsApp + Phone Calls from day one.

3️⃣ People decide at the last minute
We started selling tickets in November.
By January we had just over 100 bookings.
Then February arrived…
And suddenly we were sold out, with 50–80 people still trying to get tickets.
Lesson learned: people move late.

4️⃣ Things will go wrong
Large events are stressful.
There will be anxiety, mistakes, and last-minute curveballs.
Be patient with your team.

Despite all of that, I’m incredibly excited.

This week, we’ll have 270 incredible people in one room celebrating South Africans building businesses around the world.

The energy is going to be next level.
If you managed to get a ticket, I can’t wait to see you there.

And if you missed out this year…

Don’t worry.

Next year we’re planning for 400–500 people 🙌

What a day.
Day one of the Lekker Network Summit yesterday was absolutely unreal.

A full house at Lourensford.
Incredible conversations.
Powerful speakers.

And a room filled with South Africans from around the world who genuinely want to help each other succeed.

The energy was something special.

One moment that definitely stood out, interviewing Dr Christo Wiese. 
What a legend and an absolute privilege to have him with us.

A massive thank you to every member, speaker and attendee who made day one so memorable.

Day two… let’s go.

This time last week, just under 300 people gathered at Lourensford Wine Estate for The Lekker Network’s first-ever Summit.
It’s taken me a few days to properly decompress and reflect.

Because what happened in that room… was special.

-The energy.
-The conversations.
-The willingness of people to show up.

We had members fly in from 20+ countries around the world.

Taking time out of their busy lives, travelling across continents… just to be in the room.

That speaks volumes about what’s being built here.

Now, let’s be real…
It wasn’t perfect.
There were things we could’ve done better.
Things we’ll absolutely improve next time.

But here’s something I’ve learned:

If you don’t make it a big thing… it’s not a big thing.

More things went right than wrong.
And the small things that didn’t?
We’ve taken the lessons > and we’ll come back stronger.

We’re building this in public.
-Not polished.
-Not perfect.
-But real.

Because the journey isn’t about perfection.

It’s about taking action and refining along the way.
Make it happen first.
Make it beautiful later.

For me personally, one of the highlights was finally meeting so many members face-to-face.

People I’ve spoken to. Connected with.
Built relationships with digitally…
Now becoming real-world friendships and opportunities.
That’s what this is all about.

I’ve had countless messages this week saying:
“I can’t open LinkedIn without seeing something about the Summit.”
And honestly… that’s because of you.
To every member/ attendee who shared their experience, posted content, tagged others, thank you.

That visibility matters more than you know.
Because the bigger this network becomes…the more value it creates for every single member inside it.

This was the first.
Next year?
Bigger. Better. Bolder.

We’re already working on it.

This past weekend was something special.

One of our newest Lekker Network members and now good friends, Lincoln Mali, invited us to his farm in East London (The wonderful Liamara) to experience the incredible work he and his team are doing with Rugby League in the region.

And wow… what an experience.

Lincoln and his wife welcomed us with open arms into the most beautiful setting. The warmth, humility and generosity of their family was something truly special. 

But what stood out even more was the impact they are creating in the local community through rugby.

The passion.
The people.
The purpose behind it all.

It’s next level.

The Lekker Network will be supporting Lincoln and the Rugby League over the coming years, and after seeing what they are building there firsthand, I’m even more excited about what lies ahead.

What made the weekend even more meaningful is that we were there on 14 March, the Lekker Network’s first anniversary.

To spend that moment with co-founders, new members, and new friends in a place built on community and purpose felt incredibly fitting.

After an unforgettable summit last week, this weekend was the perfect reminder of what this network is really about:

People.
Connection.
And backing good humans doing meaningful things.

Lincoln, thank you for the hospitality and for showing us what you’re building. 

We’re excited to walk this road with you.
The future looks lekker.
