In kindergarten, I had a Ninja Turtle phone book. 

It only had 2 numbers in it. 

One of those numbers was for Nate's house. 

Remember, I'm 37 years old; this was before cell phones started dishing out our daily dose of dopamine. 

The days when you had to call and ask, "Is Nate home?"

"Nope, but you can try to call back later."

At 37, I still have doubts about my future. 

Things aren't as defined as I'd thought they'd be, but when I take time to reflect, I'm grateful for a life with:

2) Travel

3) Romance

4) Investment

5) Family & Friends

Don't get me wrong, I want more of them, but I've come a long way from Lansing, Michigan. 

From all the teachers who said I "wouldn't go anywhere".

From all the bullies who made fun of me in HS.

And

From all the strict rules right at home.

It’s why I love writing, though. 

We all have a story to tell. 
To influence
To entertain
To educate

In the end, it's how we connect with one another. 

And when we connect for the right reason.

We learn

Why?

Because we're all just trying to figure it out...

I've lived abroad in Europe since 2017. 

Here’s what other expats forget to tell you:  

1) Some days I want to go home 
•⁠ ⁠Then I remember to enjoy the journey

2) Having a partner is huge 
•⁠ ⁠Without her, I would have more lonely nights

3) Life is about decisions
•⁠ ⁠You’ll make wrong ones, but try to make good ones

In the end, you create your own reality. 

Whether at home or abroad.

Nothing's ever perfect.

But it's not all negative; there's always a positive.

It increases my internal motivation to continue building the reality I've always wanted. 

Why?

Each year, my parents get older. 

Each year, my sister and brother get older. 

Each year, my friends and all their kids get older. 

And once a year just isn't enough. 

I'd like to see them more. 

To do so, I need to create that reality. 

Will it be difficult? Yes. 

Is it impossible? No. 

It all starts with the motivation to do so. 

What's motivating you this year?

I used to ignore the small wins. 

Now, I don't celebrate them, but I do this: 

I acknowledge them. 

For example, starting my 4th year in business. 

Are things perfect? No. 

Do I have it all figured out? No. 

Did I create a new folder for the 4th year? Yes. 

That's a win!

And now it's back to work on Monday.
