I'm the recently retired MD of Executive Sales Coaching Aust - now I only work with one or two clients at a time. 

I've been a guest on dozens of sales podcasts, written many articles on Selling at C level for Top Sales Magazine & other publications, developed & ran sales training programs & coached many salespeople & sales leaders. I've won a few awards for this.

More importantly I've actually sold lots of stuff to lots of different companies in lots of industries - over $100 million in total. My biggest sale was €5 million for an ERP system to Pearson Education Europe. 

I've sold goods & services in over 20 countries on every continent. I've been successful as a BDM, an Account Manager, a National Sales Manager, a Global Sales Manager & a Global Account Manager. 

Before I moved into sales I was a Project Manager, a Professional Services Manager then a Marketing Manager so I have a wide variety of practical business experience.

I've worked in & sold to a vast array of industries - ICT, telecomms, law, construction, warehousing & distribution, retail, health, banking & insurance, government, media, publishing, consumer electronics, training, agriculture, utilities & a few I can't remember.

I've also owned three small retail businesses with my wife & worked on the shop floor in many, many part time jobs.

IN SUMMARY I have an excellent understanding of customers, prospects & people in many industries at all levels from the shop floor to the boardroom - & what they care about. And I've been there and done that when it comes to selling, coaching and training. 

Of course this makes me pretty old but I'm up to date on current sales challenges including AI, how to use it effectively in sales & what to avoid.

From a theory perspective I’ve read hundreds of sales books. I’ve been on more than 50 sales, negotiation skills, leadership, communication, writing and other courses and I learned at least something from all of them - even the rubbish ones.

I’m connected through LinkedIn with many of the world’s leading sales coaches and sales leaders. I read their articles and share information with them. I also write my own articles – take a look because they tell you a lot about my philosophy.

Practically I’ve sold to senior executives in the FTSE 100, ASX 100, the NASDAQ, the Dow Jones and the S&P 500. As global sales and marketing director for an Australian ERP I’ve worked and sold in more than 30 countries in every continent – except Antarctica – and in a wide variety of industries.

The very best corporations – Apple, Virgin, Tesla – have a corporate narrative that strengthens their brand, helps command attention and helps them gain access to decision makers. They talk about customers, problems, solutions in a flowing narrative.

Every company has a story but sadly few tell it well. They talk about themselves, their products, features and benefits and guess what – outside their walls no-one cares.
