Over the past few years, I’ve seen a clear shift in how organizations approach transformation. Leaders still think long term, but they no longer have the luxury of waiting years to know whether change is actually working. The pace of markets, technology and customer expectations has made that approach unsustainable.

What matters most now is relevance. Transformation needs to improve how the business operates today, not just how it might look in the future. That means breaking change into smaller, meaningful steps, creating early feedback, and using those signals to guide bigger decisions. Speed, in this sense, is not about rushing. It is about learning early enough to adjust before momentum and trust are lost.

Of course, real progress still depends on people. When teams understand each other’s constraints, contexts and incentives, change moves faster and sticks longer. Without that trust, even the best-designed programs struggle.

In response to this, consulting itself is evolving. As automation accelerates execution, value shifts toward judgment, experience and the ability to translate complexity into clear direction. I explore these ideas and what they mean for leaders navigating change in more detail here.
