The scope of this position has a focus on serving as a spokesperson for Eric Roe, developing messaging strategies, creating marketing campaigns, writing on policy initiatives, managing staff, and implementing the office's strategic plan.  

In addition, I help businesses, non-profits, and constituents navigate through the legislative terrain in the state's capitol, supervise the responses made to telephonic, written and in-person requests for information that come through the Harrisburg and District Office. 

Other duties include running the office budget, tracking pending legislation and voting schedule, managing grant applications and meeting with key decision makers to come up with solutions to policy challenges.

*Eric Roe is one of the youngest elected officials in Pennsylvania and is a rising star in politics.  He was sworn into office on Jan. 3, 2017.

The main responsibility in this role was to ensure that the elected officials I was working with had the right message.  During this experience, I worked with over a dozen politicians to help them with speech writing, communication strategy, and media outreach. 

Some of my responsibilities included:

➜Set up press conferences
➜Trained office staff on messaging, media engagement, and constituent services
➜Delivered community outreach plans for House Members in Southeastern, Pennsylvania

Recruited to work with nine locations in southeastern, PA and 120 staff members to train them on how to communicate with customers to uncover potential sales.

I was also responsible for developing partnerships with new and existing customers and implementing sales strategies to maximize regional revenues.

➜ Successfully worked with thousands of accounts across Pennsylvania to uncover customers’ needs and add additional value.
➜ Helped implement the expansion of 75 sales reps and got them connected to new accounts
➜ Closely monitored teams' progress and aided them in surpassing sales and profit targets from year-to-year. 

*Grainger is an industrial supply company that provides consumers with access to a consistent supply of motors, lighting, material handling, fasteners, tools and safety supplies. Grainger serves over 3 million customers through a network of approximately 600 branches, 33 distribution centers, and online channels.

Nine years ago, my boss asked me to give a talk that I ended up bombing.  After this disastrous experience, I remember running out to my car, slamming the door, grabbing the steering wheel, and yelling, "THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!" 

From there, I studied the great orators of our time, and I ended up becoming a political speechwriter for dozens of politicians.  

I took what I learned in the political messaging world (and applied it to business), and I've worked with hundreds of companies to turn their stories into powerful messages.  

I've been able to do all of this by utilizing the concepts I teach in my workshops.  

If I, someone who was once terrible at communication, could show powerful politicians how to be inspirational and business leaders how to persuade through strategic storytelling, imagine what you could do with these concepts!

A couple of years ago, I made a goal to visit every presidential museum.

So far, I’ve been to:

Each one has been a masterclass in leadership, filled with stories, strategy, mistakes, and moments that have shaped history.

Today is President James A. Garfield’s birthday.

Most people know very little about the man who became the 20th President of the United States…and that’s a shame.

Here’s what struck me about Garfield:

-He grew up poor, worked on canal boats, and taught himself Latin and Greek so he could attend college.
 
-He was a Civil War general, college president, preacher, and congressman all before becoming President.
 
-He fought hard against corruption and political patronage but was assassinated just 200 days into office.
 
Garfield wasn’t flashy.

He was thoughtful, sharp, and principled.

He once said, “The truth will set you free, but first it will make you miserable.”
I think about that a lot in business.

Transparency is hard. Integrity is costly. But the long game demands it.

Today, I’m honoring Garfield by reflecting on the power of humble beginnings, quiet strength, and leadership rooted in learning.

Recently, I had the honor and privilege of speaking in Dallas. 
 
After I flew into DFW, I had to stop by the site of the JFK assassination. 
 
For years, I studied our 35th president. How could this man connect with his audience the way he did? How are some of his speeches etched in history? 
 
President Kennedy’s speeches were poetic in nature. In fact, you could spend hours dissecting some of his talks. They inspired. They were thoughtful. They went deep. 
 
In a world of 5-second superficial, B.S. TikTok videos, be different; empower your people like JFK.
