My goal for 2026 is to live a simpler life.


Spend less time on social media. Still using it to stay connected with friends and family, but less time getting pulled into pointless scrolling.

Enjoy more adventurous walks with my dog.

Exercise four to five times per week. I have finally recovered from a serious back injury after two years. It really taught me never to take movement or health for granted.

Complain less. Life is not perfect, and I have learned there will always be something stressful happening. Complaining about it only creates more stress.

Enjoy the smaller things each day. A morning coffee. A conversation with my wife. A quiet Saturday evening.

As an introvert, you will have heard this phrase many times


"You need to speak up more."

However, it's rarely met with any support
or advice on how to speak up more

Telling an introvert to speak up more is
pointless 90% of the time

Whenever I would hear this, I would
feel super self-conscious; it would
add more anxiety

And guess what?

I would speak less because I was
stuck in my head

Instead, empower people to 
want to speak

And show them that speaking
is not the only way you measure
success

What phrase have you heard as an 
introvert?

There was a time when I could barely finish a sentence in a meeting.

I’d finally work up the courage to speak.

And then someone would cut in.
Change the subject.
Talk over me.

And I’d just sit there.

Anxious.
Frozen.
Silently wondering if anyone noticed.

They didn’t.

I used to leave those meetings frustrated at myself.

Why didn’t I push back?
Why didn’t I finish what I was saying?

The truth is, I didn’t know how.

I thought the only way to hold space was to be louder.
To jump in faster.
To fight for space in a room that moved too fast.

What helped wasn’t volume.
It was something small and clear.

I started using what I call the pause and name technique.

When someone interrupted me, I would pause.
Hold eye contact.
Say their name.
Then calmly continue.

"James, just to finish what I was saying…"

That pause broke the momentum.
It showed I wasn’t finished.

It gave me space to speak without raising my voice or rushing to defend myself.

It never felt easy.
But it helped me stay present.

And more importantly, it helped me stop disappearing.
