Too many leaders still fear being “outshined” by smarter people on their teams.

That’s backwards.

The best leaders don’t aim to be the smartest person in the room. They aim to build the smartest room possible.

Here’s the reality:

- A team full of people who only know what you know will never surpass you
- Hiring people smarter than you creates leverage, not competition
- Growth comes from surrounding yourself with people who stretch your thinking, challenge your assumptions, and bring ideas you’d never imagine

It takes humility to admit you don’t have all the answers. But humility isn’t weakness-it’s the foundation of strength.

I’ve learned the leaders who fear smarter colleagues usually struggle with ego. The leaders who thrive? They welcome it. Because they know:

- Smarter teammates = faster progress
- Different perspectives = fewer blind spots
- Bigger talent = bigger results

Stop guarding your title. Start curating your circle.

True leadership isn’t about being the brightest mind. It’s about creating the conditions where the brightest minds can do their best work-together.

If you want to grow, stop fearing smarter people. Start hiring them.

One thing I’ve learned after building multiple teams: the most valuable people are rarely the loudest.

They’re the ones who quietly upskill when no one’s watching.

You can’t teach that level of internal drive.
You can’t force someone to care about their growth more than the company requires.

That has to come from within.

And from a neuroscience perspective, people who self-educate build something incredibly powerful:
a plastic brain.

Every new skill, every book, every online course, it all strengthens their neural pathways for adaptability, problem - solving, and creative thinking.

Those traits compound.

They become faster learners.
Better decision-makers.
More resourceful under pressure.
And over time, they outgrow people who rely only on formal training.

When I hire, I look for curiosity.
Not credentials.
Not polished answers.
Curiosity.

Because someone who reads, experiments, builds, tinkers, or studies on their own time will eventually outpace almost everyone else.
They don’t wait to be told what to learn.
They choose it.

And that choice is what makes them dangerous, in the best way possible.

If you’re that person, keep going.
Even if no one notices right now.
Your effort is compounding quietly.
You’ll feel the gap before anyone else sees it.

100-year-old productivity hack. Still works. Still simple.

1918. Charles Schwab runs Bethlehem Steel. Hires productivity consultant Ivy Lee. Lee's offer: give me 15 minutes with each executive, pay me what it's worth in 3 months. 3 months later, Schwab writes a cheque for $25,000, equivalent to $400,000 today. The method was that effective.

The Ivy Lee Method. Five steps. At the end of each workday, write down the 6 most important tasks for tomorrow. Not 7, not 10, six. Rank them in order of true importance. Tomorrow morning, start with task 1, work until complete. Move to task 2, then 3, one at a time in order. Unfinished tasks move to tomorrow's list. Repeat daily.

Why 6 tasks? Forces prioritisation. With unlimited tasks, everything feels important, nothing gets done. Six is manageable, ambitious but achievable.

Why rank them? Most people work on whatever feels urgent or easy. Ranking forces you to confront true importance. Task 1 should be the thing that, if completed alone, makes tomorrow successful.

Why one task at a time? Multitasking is a myth. Task switching reduces productivity by 40%. Takes 23 minutes to regain focus after interruption. Doing one thing until complete equals deep work.

Why plan the night before? Decision fatigue compounds throughout the day. By 4pm, decision-making quality is 40% worse than 9am. Planning tonight means decisions made when not depleted. Wake up, no decision required, just execute task 1.

Six tasks, ranked, one at a time. Decide tonight, execute tomorrow.

It took me 9 years to land Apple as a client.

9 years. And I reached out almost every single week.

When I got rejected. I pitched again. When I got ignored. I pitched again.

I knew that if I was going to get them, I needed some luck. And the only way to get lucky is by putting yourself in the position to get lucky.

So I made sure I was always there. Always showing up. So when the opportunity came, I was ready.

You see, success isn't about talent. It's about persistence and creativity. Most people quit after the FIRST no. The first sign of rejection. Because school teaches them to avoid failure.

But success is all about failure. It's all about being annoying and always there.

9 years is a long time. But it's better than spending 9 years wondering what if.

The only way you fail is if you quit.

100 million people changed a stranger's life…

and it left me sick to my stomach.

Ayisha went viral after she told me she had a dream. She knew I could help her make it happen, but she ended up telling me her boyfriends instead.

We posted the video, the world loved it, and her boyfriend's dream came true.

Amazing. But I couldn't shake this feeling of guilt.

What about Ayisha?

I'd walked away without hearing her dream. She’d done something so selfless, yet I’d accidentally neglected her because of it.

So I called her. She told me how she wanted to be a singer and it had been her dream her whole life.

I had no clue how good she was but I knew she deserved her shot. So I invited her to my show at the London Palladium.

What she didn't know was that I was going to call her on stage in front of 2,200 people.

She had no warning. No time for rehearsals. So when I called her name on stage, I didn’t know WHAT was going to happen.

And I don't know how to describe what happened next.

When Ayisha opened her mouth, it felt like the whole room disappeared. It was just her voice filling every corner of that theatre.

She was amazing.

By the time she finished, I was crying. The audience were on their feet and then someone in the audience stood up…

"I want to sign her."

A record deal was offered right there and Ayisha’s dream was well on the way to coming true.

Ayisha gave her moment away. And because of that… she got a bigger one back.

For a relationship to work, you put them first. Even when it costs you.

My wife did that for me. I did it for her. That's the only reason any of it worked.

Ayisha didn't know she was teaching 100 million people what love actually looks like.

Give without take always comes back.

I didn’t ask my wife to marry me.

She asked me. And I said yes before she finished the sentence.

23 years later, I still feel like she’s out of my league.

In a world where people swipe left and right, we’ve been together 23 years. And just like building a business, it hasn’t been perfect. But it’s been worth it.

When people talk about my success, 19 companies built, 81 investments, selling to PwC, they talk about me.

But the truth is, none of it happened without Helen.

She was my business partner for 12 years. She’s been my partner in life for 23.

She’s kinder than me. Smarter than me in most ways. And she’s spent two decades pushing me to be better.

When we started Fluid, I could’ve taken more equity. I had the money. I had the experience.

I gave her 50% and it was the best decision I ever made.

Helen showed me that success isn’t just making money. It’s doing the right thing. She showed me that helping people, even if it sometimes meant losing money, is what’s important to make the world a better place.

If I hadn’t met her, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.

So on International Women’s Day, I want to celebrate the incredible woman I met in Hong Kong all those years ago.

The woman who helped shape my life, my values, my businesses and my family.

The people who believed in me before I made it are the only ones I trust now.

When I was 15 and homeless, no one wanted to know me. No mentors, friends or networks.

Just other homeless people who shared their food with me.

When I started my first business, people laughed. Said it wouldn't work. Said I should get a real job.

The few who didn't laugh and supported me. They're still in my life today.

When I sold my company, suddenly everyone wanted to be my friend. People I'd never met acted like we'd known each other for years.

It taught me that the people who show up when you have nothing are the only ones who matter.

Look around you.

Who pushes you? Who believes in you? Who will tell you the truth, even when it's hard?

Those people are your circle.

And the right circle is how you win.

School teaches us to focus on what we’re bad at.

If you’re failing maths then they make you study harder. 

If you’re struggling with English they’ll give you extra homework. 

The whole system is built around fixing your weaknesses.

But everyone in the real world knows that’s backwards.

In real life, you win by doing what you’re great at. Then finding someone else to do the rest.

I’m terrible with numbers. So I found people who love spreadsheets. I’m not a designer. So I work with people who are.

I didn’t get better at the things I’m bad at. I got really good at what I’m great at, and found people who are great at what I’m bad at.

That’s how you build a business. That’s how you build a life.

You don’t tell the sales manager to learn design skills.

You tell them to keep improving their sales skills.

School got it wrong.

The real world rewards people who know what they’re great at and aren’t afraid to ask for help with what they’re not.

Why did we give these evil men coverage on the biggest platform in the world?!!

The PR and exposure helps them!

I think Netflix and Louis Theroux don’t understand how it all works. 

These awful men are already using the new exposure to trick and con a new set of young men. 

They spin this so called negative story into “the matrix” is against them and you (young men) and it helps them!

Netflix and Louis are helping keep their brand of evil alive. 

Nonstop clips of these guys saying ther evil views and many will hear and sign up now!

Just as we had almost turned a corner with the downfall of the likes of Andrew Tate proving their way leads to prison and a bad brand.

My conclusion; These types of men like Tate in my view need to be starved of oxygen and blocked, not put on the biggest platform in the world and debated! Madness. We need to shift focus to more positive role models.

My son is 8. He hasn’t been to school in two years. And he’s thriving.

Here’s what you need to know about homeschooling.

1. Yes, homeschooled kids socialise.

My son has friends of all ages. Not just kids born the same year. He’s made them through his interests, kickboxing, sword fighting, woodwork. He connects with kids who love what he loves.

2. We don’t follow a curriculum.

We follow his interests. He has real agency over his education. He’s learning what he cares about, not what a stranger decided.

3. He has downtime when he needs it.

Some days he sleeps in. Some weeks he needs a rest day. Just like adults do.

4. You don’t have to do it alone.

We’ve found amazing home educating families in our area. Our kids learn together in community.

5. How do you work at the same time?

You work for yourself. Or your work allows your kid to be part of it. There’s no work-life balance. Just life.

6. Is it expensive?
I spend £50 a week. The time I save on school runs goes into my son and my income. It pays for itself.

Kids don’t do what you say. They do what you do.

And the best educator is you. You know your kid best.

When I meet someone who loves their job, I just leave them alone.

My mission is to help people realise they can do whatever they want and enjoy their work.

Not everyone needs to be an entrepreneur. They just need the option to do what they love.

Often that means they need entrepreneur skills to make it happen.

700,000 kids have left uni and can’t find a job. I want to help them create their own.

But it was an absolute pleasure to meet someone who already loves what they do.

That’s what I want for everyone.

These twins are 7’11.

They want to be basketball players. 

They’ve got the height, talent and passion.

But if school had its way, they’d be sat at a desk working on their essay writing. Focusing on the stuff they’re “bad at.”

The stuff they don’t even enjoy.

Look at this photo. We’re completely different.

And that’s the same for every single person in the world.

Every kid is different. Different strengths. Different ways of learning. Different dreams.

But the education system treats them all the same.

Same classroom. Same subjects. Same tests. Same pace.

The kid who learns by doing gets told to sit still. The kid who thinks differently gets told to focus. The kid with one incredible strength gets told to fix the stuff they’re bad at.

We should be building on what makes kids unique. Not beating it out of them.

Every child is different. The way they learn should be too, and that’s why I wrote a book for children.

To teach kids how to find what they’re best at. Chase their own passion and build their own path.

No 2 kids are the same. We shouldn’t teach them like they are.

My son won’t inherit a penny from me.

People think I’m cruel. Some have said it to my face. “You’ve got the money, why wouldn’t you set him up?”

But just handing him money is the worse thing I could do for him.

70% of wealthy families lose everything by the second generation. 90% by the third. 

Because these kids were handed fish instead of fishing rods.

Kids I grew up with whose parents gave them everything, ended up becoming miserable.

I’ve built 19 companies. I’ve pitched to rooms full of investors. I’ve been homeless. I’ve been a millionaire. I’ve been broke again.

None of that scares me like this does.

When I was 9, I wanted to be a BMX trick biker. I was told it wasn’t a real job. So I gave it up.

When I was 15, I was homeless. No parents. No money. No one to tell me what to do next.

When I was 22, I wanted to be rich. I chased money for 20 years.

When I was 40, I retired. Played golf. Had everything I thought I wanted. And I was miserable. No purpose. No reason to get out of bed.

It took me over 40 years to figure out what I actually want to do with my life.

40 years.

I don’t want that for your kids.

I don’t want a single child to sit in a classroom being told their dream isn’t realistic.

To spend decades chasing someone else’s version of success.

To wake up at 40 and wonder what happened.

So I wrote a book.

Not for adults. For kids. For YOUR kids.

It teaches them the things school never will. How to find what they love. How to build a life around it. How to take the first step. How to fail and keep going. How to ask for help. How to find their purpose.

The same lessons I teach my own son. The same lessons I’ll leave him when I die.

This smart guy wanted to debate me.

He thinks we should tax the rich more.

I think we shouldn't.

I think we should tax companies PROPERLY instead. Eg Starbucks!

But this conversation was one of the best conversations I've had in a while.

Here's the thing about debates.

They're healthy and we need them more. 

We need to explore different ideas and challenge each other to see what actually works.

As long as both sides are mature enough to listen. And take nothing personally.

This guy listened. I also tried to listen. We both walked away thinking more about the solution.

And here's my view...

"Tax the rich" sounds good. It gets clicks. It gets cheers.

But the rich will just leave. 

Hop on a plane to Dubai etc. 

Take their money, their businesses, their jobs with them.

It's a lazy solution that creates false hope.

WHY BANNING SOCIAL MEDIA FOR KIDS IS THE WORST IDEA THE UK HAS EVER HAD

To be honest, I'm furious.

Another excuse for “protecting children” when really this is just about control.

The government had no problem with social media when it was just people sharing photos of their lunch. But the moment TikTok and X gave ordinary people the power to build audiences, share ideas, and make money on their own. It’s suddenly dangerous.

Social media is the greatest equaliser in human history. A kid with a phone and an idea can now reach more people than a CEO with a 7-figure marketing budget.

That terrifies the people in power.

I've had hundreds of kids run up to me on the street screaming, “I’ve got a dream!” And they’re GOOD ideas. Ideas they got from watching content online.

And now they want to take that away?

They're not banning universities that take £90,000 on the promise that it will get students jobs, while 700,000 graduates can’t find one.

And I’m not saying social media doesn’t have its flaws. But that can be solved with education.

Teach social media in schools.

Teach how to create content. Teach how to build an audience and make money online. How to spot misinformation and how to use it safely.

Give kids the skills to use it as a tool.

But that would mean empowering them. And empowered kids become empowered adults. Adults who don't need the system.

Can't have that.

The argument is always "protect the children." But I’m not seeing that.

This should be a decision for parents. If you're a parent and you want to limit your kid's screen time, that's your right, and you can do that.

It's not the government's to decide.

Once they ban this, what's next?

Social media is freedom. It's opportunity, and it shouldn’t be taken away.

What more proof do you need?!

This is not a “natural” loss in creativity as we age.

It’s being TAUGHT out of us by an education system that doesn’t want creative thinking.

It’s designed to create a work force that follows orders. 

It rewards the right answer, not new ideas. It rewards sitting still, not exploring. It rewards following instructions, not thinking for yourself.

Every child starts as a genius. Then we send them to school and teach them to be average.

This is why I've spent the last 6 years fighting to change the education system. And it's why I wrote a book to teach kids the things school never will.

This stat alone should be enough proof that children are being taught the wrong things.

We need a change.
