With over 20 years of experience in financial services, I am the founder and financial planner committed to helping women and #STEM professionals oversee their financial affairs.  

Your Story Financial was established in July 2016 and we service clients throughout the United States. 

In 2019, I started Your Story Financial Academy because I wanted people to see financial freedom and making work-optional/financial independence as something within reach. 

I am originally from Columbus, OH, and graduated with a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The Ohio State University.  

Soon after working as an engineer and taking on various roles, I decided to pursue my purpose in promoting financial literacy and financial planning.  

In 2004, I changed careers and began working with a global financial institution.  

Five years later in 2009, I became a financial advisor with a national broker-dealer firm and began assisting professionals with their financial futures.  

After seven years with that broker-dealer firm, I launched my firm which allows me to continue to promote financial literacy and stay true to my vision to provide financial planning regardless of one’s age or accumulated assets.  

In addition to helping clients achieve financial success, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, line dancing, reading a good non-fiction book, watching historical documentaries, and spending time with my husband.

Shehara Wooten

My forever last words were, “I love you Daddy.”

On December 12, 2025, my sister, called me to tell me that my dear father had gone home to be with the Lord. 

It was the most devastating news I’d ever heard.

I just spoke with him a few hours earlier.

I read a scripture to him, “Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭30‬:‭2‬ ‭

I said, “You are healed Daddy” and he breathily said, “Yes!”
And I told him, “I love you, Daddy.” 
He said, “I love you too.”

I got off the phone because I knew he was out of breath. 

But I didn’t know he was taking his last breaths.

He passed away a few hours later.

It was totally unexpected for me.

I just knew he’d win this health battle as he did with all the others.

I’m still in a bit of disbelief sharing this.

Soon after he passed, I started about 19 LinkedIn posts about his passing, didn’t finish them and then I just took a break from posting. That felt freeing.

I just couldn’t do another post discussing business as usual because life as I knew it changed forever when my Daddy passed away.

I don’t know how frequently I’ll post here going forward but when I have something to share I plan to honor my dad.

Today, I’ll share a few of the numerous lessons he taught me over my life.

He taught me how to ride my bike
He taught me how to dance
He taught me crucial life lessons
He taught me how to be positive through the power of positive thinking

He taught me the power of giving
He inspired me to entrepreneurship

He inspired me to be the best student I could be

He told me no one could take away my education

He introduced me to documentaries…
…I love them

He passed on to me my love for Black History
and history in general…

He was learning AI before he passed at age 79 it was fun to share our ideas 

He taught me to never stop learning so, like him, I’m a lifelong learner

He taught me that our words have power
He showed me the power of exercising our faith in God

I’m looking forward to posting some key lessons, creative ideas, and statements that remind me of my Daddy.

I’m doing well considering and taking my own time to process and heal.

My dad used to end calls or visits with a quote that I recently learned he got from motivational speaker, Les Brown. One of his favorite.

And that is,
“It’s been a plum-pleasing pleasure.” 

So even though it was hard for me to write this post and publish it. 

I’m glad I’m doing it now and especially during Black History Month. Because he always had something to share about it and I will, too.

And with that, “It’s been a plum-pleasing pleasure.” 🫶🏾
