Mental health advocacy: As a trustee with Mates in Mind, I’m committed to improving mental health awareness and support across the construction sector.

As the CEO of Band of Builders, I lead a charity that supports the U.K. construction industry by providing practical assistance, advice, and support to those in need. I am passionate and purpose-driven about making a positive impact on the lives of our beneficiaries and volunteers.

I have been involved with Band of Builders since 2017, when I was chosen as a project lead. I became a trustee in 2018 and took on the CEO role in 2022. My responsibilities include developing our corporate and commercial partnerships, overseeing our marketing strategy, and negotiating contracts with suppliers and donors. I have helped the charity grow its reach, reputation, and revenue, thanks to the collaboration and support of our amazing team and partners.

I had the privilege of contributing to this article for CEO Monthly after being named Charity CEO of the Year UK. Although I knew it was coming, seeing it published today still feels incredibly humbling.

Recognition like this is never really about one person. Band of Builders is a collective effort built on the skills, compassion and generosity of our volunteers, our partners across the industry, and our small but mighty staff team who pour their hearts into supporting construction workers and their families when life takes an unexpected turn.

When I first volunteered back in 2017, I had no idea that it would lead to where we are today. What I have seen along the way is the life-changing impact that good people can make when they come together with purpose. That spirit is what drives this charity forward every single day, and it is what keeps me grounded in the role I now hold.

As we head into another important year for Band of Builders, our focus remains unchanged: reaching more construction workers in crisis, delivering more practical projects, strengthening our wellbeing services, and guiding the charity towards a future that the whole industry can be proud of.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our mission. This article may have my name on it, but the story belongs to all of us.

Last Friday I had the privilege of joining the Builders Merchant Awards, where Band of Builders was chosen as the charity partner for the event.

I want to offer a heartfelt thank you to the Builders'​ Merchants News team and to every guest in the room for your generosity. Together you raised an incredible £8,000, which will make a real difference to construction workers and their families who need support this Christmas.

As a community we talk about standing together and looking after our own, and on Friday that spirit was unmistakable.

Your kindness means families will feel a little more secure, a little more supported and a little more hopeful going into the festive season.
Thank you again for choosing to support Band of Builders at this event. It truly means a great deal to our charity and to the people we serve.

A brilliant evening at the Construction Marketing Awards. My first time attending and it was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with so many familiar faces across our industry.

Congratulations to our friends at On The Tools for taking home Best Use of Press and Public Relations and Best Social Value Campaign. A well deserved recognition of the impact you continue to make.

Great to see the team at Super Trowel (UK) celebrated with Best Use of Events and Live Marketing, and it was a pleasure to share a table with Paul Malloy and the Bradfords Building Supplies Ltd team as they picked up Best Big Budget Campaign.
It was also lovely to meet Trisha Pickersgill and Imogen Heap from CRASH - Construction Industry's Charity. The work they are doing to support homelessness and hospice projects is incredibly important and inspiring.
A big thank you to everyone I managed to catch up with including Waheeza B., Sam Hiner, Michelle McNeill, Jeremy Harris, Dianne Lucas FCIM, Marianna Peet, MIBM, Gareth Drew, Gareth Osborne and many more. Events like this show the strength of our sector and the good we can achieve together.
Congratulations to all of the winners. Looking forward to seeing what the next year brings for our industry.

Really looking forward to the Builders Merchant Awards tomorrow. 

A massive thank you to Lucyanne Matthews and the team at Builders'​ Merchants News for choosing to support Band of Builders this year, it genuinely means a great deal to all of us.

We will be there in force, selling raffle tickets and taking donations to raise funds that directly support construction families. I have optimistically printed 2,000 raffle tickets and at £10 a ticket it would be incredible if we sold them all. With more than 750 guests attending it is certainly doable, but even selling half would make a remarkable difference.

Half of those tickets would fund a major house renovation to improve the quality of life for someone in our industry, or cover a full year of our 24,7 text support service, or provide 40 families with food and essentials this Christmas. Real impact, made possible by the generosity of our sector.

This is set to be one of the biggest BMAwards to date and if you are attending tomorrow, you could help us make it the one with the biggest fundraising total as well.

What a brilliant evening at the Checkatrade national final at Wembley. 
 
A heartfelt thank you to Emma Grant and Katie Skinner for including Band of Builders this year. Your support helps us raise vital funds and, just as importantly, helps us connect with construction workers from every corner of the UK who may one day need a helping hand.

It was a pleasure to meet Jambu Palaniappan, Checkatrade’s CEO, and Richard Harpin, both of whom are clearly passionate about backing the trades. I also enjoyed speaking with Martin McCluskey MP about the daily challenges construction workers face and the importance of continued action on issues like tool theft and wellbeing.

A real highlight of the night was seeing Shoaib Awan take home the Community Champion Award for his incredible work tackling tool theft. 

Thank you to everyone who stopped to chat about the charity. Nights like these move us forward and strengthen our mission to stand beside construction workers and their families when life takes a turn.
