Last week I gave a talk to a packed room these are the ideas that seemed to land the most:

1️⃣ The most progressive organizations are the ones that connect the value on both sides of the experience coin internal customer and external customers.

2️⃣ Across Dubai, service excellence is pretty much a given. So whenever everything is the same commoditization happens and with that, a brand and business’s distinct advantage fades.  
With the service maturity that’s happened here, you either fight in the nickels and dimes or you move to experience design.

3️⃣ The currency of every brand now both its customers and employees is the stories shared and the memory it captures and holds.

4️⃣ If your organization doesn’t have an Experience strategy, get one now. 

5️⃣ If you’re in the service game right now, you’re probably looking at efficiencies process design, doing less for more, or working your internal customers dry but you’re basically robbing Peter to pay Peter and killing off your internal customer base.
Hello burnout.

6️⃣ The Little Big Things.
You don’t need to redesign the whole journey, managing points within that journey will give you some big wins fast look for points of transitions, find your areas that can drive peaks in the experiece

7️⃣ Focus on designing goodbyes, invest the same amount of time if not more in how  welcome our customer (internal and external) in how we say goodbye to them. You will be amazed how many people value a meaningful  exit and how much it’s recalled 

8️⃣ The challenge for leaders now isn’t delivering more service, It’s designing experiences people would choose to subscribe to again and again something most “immersive” experiences still haven’t figured out yet.


So let me leave you with these simple questions:

❓If your brand or workplace disappeared overnight, would anyone feel lost, or would they instantly replace you with the next efficient option? If yes, you’re in trouble and might not even know it yet.

❓How much would you charge for your experience to both your customer types (external and internal)? Is it premium enough to justify the cost?

❓Both types of customer are paying with their time, are you making it worthwhile?

I absolutely, completely believe in my book Another Door Opens (and it's contents).

I know it's 'another 5 step thing', but I really believe it can help people. It's been developed from 8 years of work, research, mapping, listening, noticing. It's been through several different concepts before I got to this approach.

When people use it I can see moments of insight, moments of energy shift, moments of a little bit of clarity. When I talk to people about it, sharing the ideas, it leads to deeper conversations about change and perspectives. 

Most of my coaching, speaking, workshops are now based on the 5 step thinking framework. And I can see and feel the shifts. When people are navigating change a framework can help create space to think, it's one less thing to work out. The framework slows down sporadic thinking and helps focus energy. 

So I want to get the message out further.  It's not quite reaching the parts that I'd love to reach, yet.

It’s ok to cry.

At least I hope it is. 

Ive been letting the tears flow recently. Happy moments, nostalgic moments, disappointment moments. Tears come in all shapesand sizes.

3 things that set me off this week -

1. Michele Rousseau’s talk at Arsenal, the work at Starling, and also a nod to what Arsenal has achieved, from a crowd of 5000 a few years ago to 56,000 watching the women’s team.  It was a good reminder in a world that feels like its going backwards, we are actually making lots of progress.

2. Girl bands forever - Mel Blatt, Natasha Hamilton-Gay, Kelle Bryan - loved these girls back in the day (hello combat trousers) but we had no idea what they were going through while we all wanted to be them!

3. Sara Cox - oh blimey. What a legend. My daughter and I track her route and big tears every time they read out the fundraising total. Go Sara. 

Its often ok to cry. I included quite a bit of research about crying for the book Another Door Opens, Ive included a blog in comments. 

Usually what we need is a good cry. And if we are crying too much its a sign, our body trying to tell us something.

I'm not sure being scared everyday is exactly my goal, but being uncomfortable, shifting out of cosy zone, trying something new certainly has it's place in moments of change.

Last year I was really chuffed to be asked to be an expert on the brilliant learning platform inrehearsal. But I went from 'chuffed' to 'oh crap' quite quickly when it sunk in I'd be filming, with a pro crew, lights, camera, action.

Like most things out of our comfort zone, it turned into a great day. I actually, kind of, enjoyed it! 

So it's exciting to now be part of it's next evolution. A fresh looking website, an even better user experience, even more boxsets, topics, learning themes. 

My boxset is all about navigating the messiness of change, how we can own change (and we may have more options than we think) and how we find opportunity even in the most challenging times.

It was a pleasure to be part of Borderlines Book Festival at Tullie.

Sometimes the story isnt just the story of the book, often people want to know about behind the scenes. Where the idea came from, how I started to write, how the idea evolved, as well as the idea itself.

I love the curiosity, and the good thing about talks is the audience get to be part of the conversation.

At this session the best part was when the audience started talking to each other about the topics, thats what made it feel like a success to me.

Id love to do more of these in 2026.

It’s hard work publicising a book. I got tired a few weeks ago. I let go a little. I didnt give up, but just needed to pause for a moment.

Its not the physical energy, I find that easy. Its the emotional energy. Its the energy that creates thoughts that never switch off. How can I get my book out there, how can I do more, what am I missing, what am I not doing… it goes on and on.

And then, is it really any good? (I think so, its just I need others to feel the same!).

So book festivals and author talks are moments you can reenergise your emotional mind. When people turn up, and nod along, and ask questions, and talk about what you write about.

Navigating change together as a team might feel like it should be easier, 'all in this together' and all that. 

However, we might be in the same sea of change, but we are not in the same boats. Everyone has their own personal change mastery, how they navigate through uncertainty, the unknown.

So navigating change as a team can be extra messy, and unless you take some time out to think, connect and share you might be making it harder than it needs to be.  

Whether it's a new strategy, a new tool, or a new way of working, teams are often rushed into solutions before they’ve taken a collective moment to understand what’s really going on. So they are  going into the change as a group of individuals, not as a connected team.

The Five-Step Framework is a simple way to slow down reactions and replace it with shared clarity, curiosity, and momentum. Even if you just take 15 minutes to play with these questions in a team meeting it might help to see a different perspective.

Here's a few ideas (to play with) - 

1. PAUSE - Before diving into plans or panic, hit pause.
 What’s actually happening? What are we assuming?
 A shared pause creates psychological safety and gives everyone a chance to breathe and align.

2. MESS - Explore the emotions, feelings, confusion openly.
Change is messy. Instead of avoiding it, surface it.
What’s unclear? What’s overwhelming? What feels contradictory?
Naming the mess reduces its power and builds trust.

3. PLAY - Generate possibilities without commitment.
This is where creativity happens.
What could we do? What haven’t we tried?
Teams who give themselves permission to play unlock solutions they would never find in “meeting / operational mode.”

4. TRY - Pick a small next step.
Not a big transformation. Not a perfect plan.
Just the next smallest meaningful move.
Trying turns ideas into learning and gives teams progress they can feel.

5. RESTART - Be intentional with how you move forward together.
What did we learn? What shifted? What needs a reset?
Teams need shared thinking habits that help them move from reaction → intention, and from fear → progress.
