(This was the situation with Indirect Retail at Comcast when I joined)

So I built one.

At Comcast, I owned the sales training strategy + direction for the Indirect Retail channel. I traveled the country presenting newly launched training programs and getting to know sales leaders from each unique market. My x-factor was building relationships with learners and deeply understanding their needs.

So we got really good at the part that mattered.

Instead of "this phone has a 6-inch screen."
We trained our retail teams on how it made customer's lives better.

At AT&T, I created exciting training materials + programs for National Retail sellers to become experts on cool new phones, monthly plans, awesome apps, and putting it all together to sell AT&T against the competition. All while sharpening my creativity + graphic design talents.

Imagine finally graduating college, but it's the middle of The Great Recession.

That was me. All that anticipation of entering "the real world".

The build-up to graduating, thinking I'd move to LA or NYC after college and use my marketing degree to its max potential. (Or *be discovered*)

The economy had different plans.

So when a full-time version of my job opened up at my company, I knew it was a sign to stay put.

Before I even knew I got the job, my director stopped me in the hallway to ask: "Would you rather continue being a Trainer or do Curriculum Design?"

I chose curriculum design.

In this role, I created fun + engaging classroom training for a variety of Nielsen research studies relating to tv viewing, sports, politics, and movie watching -- including the first new hire curriculum for a newly acquired Hollywood, California call center.

Sitting in my first week of new hire training, I said "I want to be just like this trainer".

She explained everything so well.
She was fabulous, funny & kind.
She commanded the room.

One month later, I was getting interviewed to be Nielsen's newest (and youngest) trainer.

I was thinking I'd go for the training assistant job -- but they saw something bigger in me.

So I went for it and never looked back.

At Nielsen, I helped our newest employees become experts on the Nielsen TV Ratings + other fun market research studies. My new hires consistently ranked in the top 5 performing classes each “TV sweeps” cycle in a 1200-employee call center.

After I graduated college with a degree in Marketing, while working in my full-time curriculum writing position at Nielsen, I was on a mission to figure out where my creative talents would take me in my career. During this time, I worked in event planning for the Tampa Bay area's oldest event production house, Grand Events of Florida.

I designed themed event packages, coordinated onsite vendors, and set up a diverse range of custom events in the Tampa + Orlando areas.

And that should come as a huge relief!
Because so many of us overthink content.

- no, you don't have to only write long educational posts
- no, you don't have to spend 10 hours making a carousel post
- no, you don't have to overdo the corporate speak to sound smart

In fact, you don't have to do *anything* that you read is "the key to success on LinkedIn".

Because some of those are old strategies.
Or you're hearing it from someone who rose to LinkedIn fame 3+ years ago (when it was undoubtedly easier to be seen).

The "new" way is:

- real people sharing real stories
- showing 'behind the scenes' at work
- talking about your unique experiences

A lot of you started 2025 with BIG plans.

I remember, because I was right there with you.

But somewhere along the way, it turned into:
"Next month I'll record a video"
"When I hit 10k followers I'll start recording"
"I heard someone say video doesn't work, so maybe I won't try"

Here's the thing:
*Thinking* about big plans is fun.
*Doing* them? Usually not fun (at first).

Scrolling through videos and saying "I want to do this!" = fun.
Setting a date far enough away that you don't have to act yet = also fun.

Turning on the camera and panicking = not fun.

And that's when 'the trio of giving up' appears:
- self-critique
- perfectionism
- imposter syndrome

But remember: If something feels uncomfortable or unfamiliar, your brain will fill in the blanks with fear.

“Who am I to do this…”
"I look/sound horrible..."
“I’ll just stay where I belong…”

The easiest way to avoid imposter syndrome?
Stay stuck in your comfort zone (and never grow).

The second easiest way?
Move through it and grow.

I have a #1 favorite type of client...

*The overthinkers*

The ones who rewrite their posts 12 times.
Who save video ideas in their Notes app but never hit record.
Who want to show up, but also want to hide!

I love working with them.
Because they have the most to gain from getting on camera.

How do I know? Because I'm a (recovering) overthinker, too.
And some of the benefits are kind of life-changing ↓

1 | Getting positive reinforcement (not just the inner critic in your head).

- People start saying “I’ve been watching your videos, you helped me..."
- You start hearing how much you impacted someone you didn't even know was watching.

2 | Spending way less time agonizing over explaining what you do.

- Once you've said it out loud enough times, you stop second-guessing every word.
- Instead of over-explaining, you just send a video (one you already filmed months ago that's sitting in your video library).

3 | Getting invited to things you didn't have to pitch for.

- Podcasts, panels, trainings, collabs, etc.
- People reach out because they’ve seen evidence of your energy and personality already!

4 | Witnessing your own growth (and not picking yourself apart).

- Hate your voice? Your tone? Mannerisms? After a few videos, it doesn't even register anymore.
- You’ve got a whole library of proof that you’ve improved, and it’s actually fun to look back.

Also, I'm a MUCH better speaker now than I ever was. Because I've had to distill my ramblings down to 60 seconds enough times!

In the last few years, I keep hearing “perfectionism is selfish”

And I have to say...
I agree 100%

The last week and a half has been full of experiences I would’ve missed out on if I were still stuck in perfect inaction:

- I guested on 3 podcasts, one of which was brand new (I got the opportunity to be their episode #1!)

- I attended a speed networking event, where I got to meet and talk with 3 amazing new women in my network

- I sent 100+ DMs without rewriting them 5 times each (a true perfectionist milestone)

- I (almost) finished the new course I'm creating, even with a video editor disappearing mid-project (yep, it happens!)

- I randomly attended a virtual conference at the last minute, where I got to hear Nicole Kidman say she experiences imposter syndrome (like, what?!)


None of these would’ve happened when I was deep in perfectionism.

I would’ve waited.
Or talked myself out of things.

But here’s the part I didn’t realize until recently: Other people would’ve missed out, too.

When you have something to share and you stay silent because you’re worried about what *whoever* might think… yeah. I can see where that’s selfish.

And I don’t know if perfectionism is ever 100% gone, but posting online is the quickest cure I’ve found so far.
