Lead Electromagnetic Compatibility Engineer (Sr. Staff EMC Engr.)

Lead new group within the Avionics department responsible for EMC, Space Environmental Compatibility, RF and electrical power sub-systems

Select, design, integrate, and test major electrical components within the Rocket Avionics, Carrier Aircraft Avionics, and Ground Station systems. 

Develop and validate power budget analysis.  Updated, verified and validated vehicle power quality requirements based on guidance from TOR-2005(8583)-2, MIL-STD-704F, and MIL-STD-1539.

Ensure Avionics and RF compatibility with natural and man-made electromagnetic and radiation environments.

Design and perform unit and system level EMC qualification testing on Rocket and electrical ground support hardware based on tailored MIL-STD-461C/E/F/G and DO-160F/G test requirements.

Qualify the Rocket and Pylon / Airborne electrical support systems for the indirect effects of lightning following SAE/ARP5412, ARP5414, and ARP5416.

Define requirements and perform verification & validation for all vehicle and launch system electrical bonding, grounding, and shielding for both EMI and electrostatic compatibility and survivability.

Lead EMC/Power/RF Engineer and Analyst

I lead environmental EMI/RFI design and validation for the LauncherOne program.

I work on system design for EMI , HIRF, lightning compatibility based on requirements derived from SMC-S-008, MIL-STD-461C/F/G, and DO-160F/G.    

LauncherOne is an air-launched rocket that is dropped from under the wing of a Boeing 747 at an altitude of 35,000 feet.    The launch system will operate reliably anywhere in the world without the traditional facilities that support ground launch systems.

EMC and Radiation Effects Engineer

Space Exploration Technologies

Perform RF and natural space environment compatibility analysis for satellite operators contracted on Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launches.

EMC responsible engineer for the GNC compute and sensor sub-systems (components design review and integration/flight environment risk management). 

Design and execute electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) test and analysis of the Falcon launch vehicle and Dragon spacecraft avionics sub-systems and units.  Evaluate system susceptibilities and quantify residual operational risks due to potential environmental stresses.

Measure and model signal performance degradation due to electromagnetic interference (EMI) in digital communication channels (RS-422/-485 and Ethernet).

Collaborate with hardware and software design engineers to harden flight-critical platform technologies against natural and induced effects, such as lightning, high power RF, plasma, and ionizing radiation.

Model and test ionizing radiation interactions in electronics, including effective shielding design, single-event effects (SEE) and total ionizing dose (TID) effects.

EMI/Survivability Engineer

Developed femtosecond relativistic electron diffraction sources for dynamic diffraction studies. 

Emphasis on ultrafast laser-rf timing methods including free-space electro-optic sampling of electron beam electric fields.
