I just watched a social experiment that really made me pause. 

A group of teenagers goes to a restaurant. They look at a full menu. They order. Every single one of them chooses the exact same item.

It wasn’t magic. It was engineering.

Here’s how: On their short walk to the restaurant, organizers had planted subtle ads for that specific meal—radio spots, posters, even people eating it on the street.

The result? The teens believed they made a 'free choice.' In reality, they were programmed before they even sat down.

This is why the UK’s new law is a game-changer.

Since January 5th, the British government has banned junk food advertising:
📺 No TV ads before 9pm 🌐 Zero ads online. Period.

Critics call it the “Nanny State.” They argue kids need personal responsibility.

So, watch the video again with this in mind. How might a 10-year-old approach “personal responsibility” when faced with millions of dollars in behavioral psychology?

We’re not just fighting food. We face algorithms built to hack our biology.

A16Z vient de lever 15 milliards.

18% de l'ensemble des fonds venture US. Tout de même.

D'autant plus qu'en 2025, l’investissement VC global a été divisé par deux.
Dans ce contexte, A16Z, eux, lèvent deux fois plus !

Ce chiffre en dit long sur ce qui attend les founders, y compris en Europe. 

Car la façon dont A16Z et les VC "Tier 1" se financent dicte le type de projets qu'ils vont backer. 

Avec 15 milliards à investir, A16Z envoie un signal clair : on ne joue plus dans la même cour.
Ils parient sur le fait qu'un plafond de verre est en train d'exploser, notamment dans l'IA.

Fini la chasse aux licornes aux valos à peine supérieures au milliard (tellement poussif).
Ce qui importe maintenant ? Trouver les outliers qui pourront dépasser les 20 milliards.

Voilà en quoi ça change la donne :

1/ Moins de chèques, mais plus gros, plus vite. 
Pour sécuriser 15 à 30% des futures scale-ups mondiales au moment de leur Series A, il faut dégainer vite et fort, dès le seed.

2/ Concentration du capital. 
Les VC "Tier 1" aspirent un pourcentage plus gros des fonds alors même que le VC global est devenu moins rentable.
Moins d'argent dans l'écosystème, mais plus concentré entre quelques mains.

3/ La barre monte d'un cran. 
Si le Tier 1 vise grand, très grand, les autres fonds vont devoir s'aligner à la hausse. Le rêve d'une "superbe exit" à 40 millions dans 7 ans ne va pas vraiment les attirer. 

Exemple made in France : Mistral AI.
Lever 1,7 milliard d'euros et atteindre 11,7 milliards de valo en deux ans ? Ce n'est pas juste "une pépite de la French Tech". C'est une infrastructure souveraine capable de rivaliser avec les géants américains. Une histoire à 100 milliards, potentiellement.

Et A16Z ne s'y est pas trompé… en s’assurant de participer à leurs rounds.

Marc Andreessen affiche sans détour sa thèse : "it is fundamentally important for humanity that America wins". 
Pour ça, il cherche des entrepreneurs qui veulent tout rafler.

Il veut savoir comment vous allez redéfinir votre marché.
PMF ? La base. LTV/CAC maîtrisé ? Une startup "qui sera, à terme, rentable avec 4M de CA"... Boring. 

Le signal que la donne change dans le VC ? 
En tout cas, A16Z veut frapper fort.

Les dessous du succès de Yuka. 

Ce qui m'a marqué c'est que leur modèle pur B2C (avec très peu d'utilisateurs payants) aboutit à un CA et une rentabilité... non négligeables, contrairement à ce qu'on pourrait imaginer.

10 choses sur Yuka que je ne savais pas (avant d’y travailler) 🥕📱 

Comme 1 Français sur 3, j'avais déjà utilisé l'app.
Et comme beaucoup, j’associais Yuka à son trio de fondateurs, ou au visage de Julie Chapon. 

Mais depuis quelques mois, j'ai découvert avec surprise ce qu’il y a “derrière” l’application.
Voici 10 choses que je ne savais pas 👇 

1️⃣ Une équipe minuscule 
➡️ une vingtaine de personnes pour 80M d’utilisateurs … dans 12 pays.

2️⃣ 0 acquisition payante
La croissance repose uniquement sur le bouche-à-oreille.
Les pics d'acquisition ont lieu les vendredis et samedis soirs et encore plus fort le soir de Noël et du 31 décembre !
Quand les gens se rassemblent et se transmettent leurs découvertes 🫶 

3️⃣ 20 000 nouveaux utilisateurs PAR JOUR aux US 😱 
➡️ 25 millions d'utilisateurs 🇺🇸 vs 23M en France 🇫🇷 

4️⃣ 3 500 produits ajoutés par jour par les consommateurs 😵 
97% des produits scannés en France sont déjà reconnus.
Et pour le reste, ce sont principalement les utilisateurs qui enrichissent la base.
 
5️⃣ 99,7% des Français utilisent Yuka gratuitement
Seulement 0,3% payent l'abonnement Premium (15€/an).
Aux États-Unis, c’est 3%.
Et c'est l'unique modèle économique de Yuka,.
➡️ Yuka refuse de toucher un seul € de la part de l'industrie alimentaire ou cosmétique, malgré les nombreuses propositions, afin de préserver sa totale indépendance.

6️⃣ La méthode de notation Yuka
✅ 60% qualité nutritionnelle
✅ 30% additifs
✅ 10% biologique ou non
Ce qui explique pourquoi certains produits sont bien notés au Nutri-Score… mais pas chez Yuka.

7️⃣ Yuka aide les industriels à mieux formuler
Avec un simulateur gratuit mis à disposition des marques alimentaires et cosmétiques.

8️⃣ Yuka participe à des travaux de recherche
En mettant à disposition gratuitement ses données pour des instituts de recherche, des associations et des journalistes.

9️⃣ Le mantra "Keep it simple"
À la différence de beaucoup d’apps, Yuka ne cherche pas à vous garder captifs :
pas de mécaniques addictives, pas de course à la fonctionnalité, pas de notifications push. 
Juste un outil utile pour aider à faire les meilleurs choix en magasin.

🔟 L'attention portée aux équipes
J'avais entendu qu'il faisait bon travailler chez Yuka.
Je n'étais pas prête à découvrir un cadre aussi bienveillant ... et aussi efficace !

En 10 ans dans l’écosystème de l’impact en France, je n’ai jamais vu une entreprise aussi singulière :
✊ militante comme une association (liberté de ton)
💼 rentable comme une PME (liberté d’action)
⚡ agile comme une start-up (rapidité d’exécution)

if you know how to look for better alternatives...

House of Small. A new approach to business. 👋 How to leverage the Economies of Small to be magnificent instead of just big | Author, Advisor & Speaker

550 different brands. Feels like a choice. 

It’s not. Here’s why: 

12 companies own all of them.

PepsiCo. Nestlé. Unilever. P&G. Coca-Cola. Kraft Heinz.

What might look like diversity is just consolidation.

This is the logic of growth in action:
→ Buy competitors
→ Merge operations
→ Consolidate supply chains
→ Standardize everything

Once you're operating at that scale, it's hard to do anything else.

Why does this matter? 3 things

Because consolidation means:
→ Less diversity (standardized products)
→ Less innovation (the system isn’t geared for risk)
→ More lobbying power (big food writes the regulations)
→ Less negotiating power for farmers (few buyers, many sellers)

Even small experiments get watered down by corporate process, cost control, and brand committees.

This is where the Economies of Small advantage, Tangibility breaks:

When you're that big, decision-makers are nowhere near the actual work.

They're in board rooms looking at spreadsheets. Not talking to customers. Not seeing the impact of their choices.

That distance kills quality.

Small companies don't have this problem.

The person making decisions is still close to the work. Still tasting the product. 

Still hearing customer feedback directly.

That proximity creates better decisions.

And here's the Flexibility advantage:

Small independent companies don't need to chase growth for its own sake.

They can focus on:

→ Solving problems instead of scaling fast
→ Long-term quality instead of budget numbers
→ Keeping values instead of chasing growth

That's not less ambitious.
It's just ambitious in a different direction.

Small companies have structural advantages that large companies simply don't:

→ Fewer layers, faster decisions
→ Higher quality feedback loops
→ Closer to the actual work
→ No pressure to standardize

But you have to design for it.

You can't accidentally stay small and independent. You have to choose it. Build ownership structures that protect it. Create business models that work at a modest scale.

Most founders never consider this because they've been told bigger is always better.
