Watching four marbles race feels simple — only a few competitors, one clear winner.

If only job searching worked that way.

Most of you aren’t competing against 4 candidates… you’re competing against hundreds, sometimes thousands, for the same role. That means your resume, LinkedIn profile, and interview story have to do more than “check the box.” They have to win the race in seconds.


In a crowded field:

-Your resume has to be ATS-friendly and results-driven.

-Your LinkedIn profile has to clearly position your value, not just your title.

-Your messaging has to show impact, not just experience.

-Your interviews have to prove fit, culture add, and business value.


You don’t get chosen by being average. You get chosen by being clear, compelling, and differentiated.

So, let me ask you — in a race with hundreds of applicants, is your personal brand built to finish first, or just hoping to place?

Sometimes the coolest things look complicated… until someone breaks them down step by step.

That straw trick is a great reminder: when you slow it down and explain the why behind each move, everything suddenly makes sense.


Your resume should work the same way.

If a recruiter has to “figure out” what you do, you’re already losing them. Clarity beats complexity every time.

A few resume best practices to simplify and strengthen your message:

Lead with outcomes, not tasks. What changed because you were there?

Use numbers to tell the story (revenue, growth, time saved, efficiency, customer impact).

Write in plain language, not internal jargon. 

If a 10-year-old can’t understand the role, a busy recruiter probably won’t either.

Group related experience so your career progression is obvious at a glance.

Make your top value clear in the first third of the page. That’s your “hook.”


When you break your experience into clear, easy-to-follow pieces, your value becomes impossible to miss.

Are you making your resume easy to understand… or making recruiters work too hard to get it?

That’s exactly how you want to show up in an interview.

A few interview tips to help you stand out:

-Lead with impact, not duties. Share what you changed, improved, grew, or fixed.

-Tell short, clear stories using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result).

-Connect your experience directly to their problems, not just your past roles.

-Show personality and confidence, not just qualifications.

-Ask thoughtful questions that show you’re already thinking like someone in the role.


Just like these bottles, you don’t want to blend in on the shelf — you want to be the one they remember.

Are You Solving the Right Problem?


This short clip perfectly captured the difference between #selling and #solving.

A young boy was running alongside cars on a highway, trying to sell bottled water.

He was working incredibly hard.
Sweating. 
Chasing. 
Signaling drivers.

But the cars were moving too fast.
The drivers were focused on the road.

Despite his effort, he was failing.
Then he changed one thing.

He changed his #strategy.

Instead of chasing moving cars,
he set up a small stand in a hot, 
sun-drenched desert area, 
where people were actually slowing down, stopping, and walking.


The result:

He didn’t have to chase customers anymore.
They came to him.


Lesson:

1️⃣ Study the Need, Not Just Your Product
The need wasn’t just “water.”
It was thirst + accessibility + timing.

2️⃣ Effort Without Direction Is Exhaustion
You can run at 100 mph in the wrong direction and still go nowhere.
Hard work only compounds results when applied to the right problem.

3️⃣ Positioning Is Everything
If you’re struggling to close deals, grow your brand, or gain visibility,
maybe you’re chasing cars.


Instead of pushing harder, ask:
Where is my “desert”?
Where is the place my solution becomes obvious?

Every supply has demand.
But success doesn’t come from force.
It comes from alignment.

Stop chasing.
Start positioning.
