I’m honestly disgusted by the amount of scammers on LinkedIn right now.

This week alone, eight people messaged me saying:
“XYZ used you as a testimonial because you worked with them — would you recommend them?”

Let me be crystal clear:
These people are scam artists.

They’re operating unethical businesses, and they are using real founders’ names without consent to get credibility they haven’t earned.

It breaks my heart to say this but:
👉 Don’t believe testimonials being thrown around right now.
👉 Don’t believe name-drops unless you verify them.

The rebrand agencies…
The cookie-cutter lead gen “gurus”…
The ghost writers pumping out the same recycled content…

It’s all starting to look the same, read the same, and honestly?

It feels like churn, not connection.

Is someone on your team not quite themselves at the moment?

Before you write them off as the office Grinch, maybe dig a bit deeper.

We all split into two camps at Christmas. Those who love it, and those who really don't.
And it's not always about the repetitive Christmas songs or the pressure to be jolly.

December can be incredibly hard for people.

Maybe they've lost someone and this time of year brings it all back. 

Maybe they're struggling financially and everyone's talking about expensive presents and big family gatherings. 
Maybe they're spending Christmas alone while everyone else seems to have perfect plans.

Christmas can affect your mental health if you:

❎ Find it stressful because of other events in your life 
❎ Feel alone while everyone else seems happy 
❎ Feel pressure about what Christmas "should" be like 
❎ Have difficult memories that surface this time of year 
❎ Celebrate different festivals that get less attention 
❎ Struggle when it's all over and January hits

So if someone's being a bit quiet, or seems withdrawn, or isn't joining in with the festive spirit...
Don't assume they're miserable.

Ask them if they're okay. 

Give them space to not be okay without making them feel guilty about it.
Not everyone finds December magical. For some people, it's something to just get through.

Making your people your priority | Doing the right thing by your people naturally improves productivity | HR for happy humans

Britain is "sliding into an avoidable crisis."

That's the warning from Sir Charlie Mayfield's major review into workplace sickness.

There are 800,000 more people out of work now than in 2019 due to health problems. And without action, we're on track to add another 600,000 by 2030.

There is an increase in young people affected. Between 2019 and 2024, there's been a 76% rise in 16 to 34-year-olds who are economically inactive due to mental health conditions.

That's 190,000 more young people out of work because of their mental health.
And for disabled people? Only 53% are in work. 

The review found that 93% of fit notes deem patients "not fit for work" and are often extended without further consultation.

Mayfield's calling for a new approach where responsibility is shared between employers, employees, and health services.
Because right now? People are being signed off work with no contact from their employer, no support plan, and no route back.

We can't keep writing people off.

The question is: what are businesses doing to keep people healthy and in work? Not when they're already signed off, but before it gets to that point?

Have you ever watched actual ducks?🦆

They don't stay in a row. One wanders off. Another's going the wrong way. There's always one causing chaos at the back.
That's basically HR.

You sort out one issue, three more pop up. You get one policy nailed down, something changes and you're back to square one.

You finally get everyone on the same page, then someone leaves and you start again.
So next time someone tells you to "get your ducks in a row" just remember...

Ducks don't do rows. They do chaos.

And we're all just trying to keep them roughly heading in the same direction.

I’m joking, I’m in a fortunate position where I love my job, even on the really busy days. 

Happy Friday everyone! Have you got any plans for the weekend?

It's mad how quickly it's got dark.

A few weeks ago, I was walking George in daylight, enjoying the sun on my morning walk.

Now? It's pitch black in the morning and dark again by 4pm.

I miss the sun. I miss those lighter evenings where you feel like you've got time after work to do something.
Now it feels like the day's over before it's even started.

George doesn't care though, he’s happy as long as he gets his walk. 
The dark mornings are brutal. And the dark evenings make me want to hibernate.

Anyone else feeling it? Or am I the only one who finds winter mornings this hard?

Meet the HR Christmas Gonk.👋

But first, what is a gonk? 

According to the original stories, gonks would show up at your home in the colder months. Treat them well? They'd protect your family and bring good luck. Ignore them or treat them badly? They'd play tricks on you.

Families would leave out bowls of porridge to keep their gonk happy over winter.
I’m not saying your employees are gonks, but I do think there is something familiar here. 

Keep your employees happy? They’ll help your business. 
Treat them badly? Productivity goes down and so does retention.
