It’s kind of like being handed the keys to the Sahara desert... and asked to make it bloom.

When Tokyo University of Agriculture approached me to work on a project in Djibouti, there was no hesitation. I was all in. No blah blah Just To Do it.

Imagine this: a $4.5 million project, 30+ researchers, and the goal? To uncover the greening potential in one of the most challenging climates on earth. The stakes were high—500,000+ lives potentially impacted by climate risk.

What happened next?

✦ Built deep learning models for land surface fault detection using geospatial images (think satellites and drones working overtime).

✦  Developed simulations to locate underground water sources—essential for semi-arid areas like Djibouti.

✦ Trained 10+ young scientists in applied AI for agriculture, turning knowledge into real-world solutions.

Oh wait, did we make a difference? Yes. We. Did!

Safe to say, Djibouti has a future in climate resilience...

And that is when you see Emerging Tech making the impact we want to see.

For over two decades, I have been fascinated by the stories that data can tell about the past and the present. As an archaeologist and a data scientist, I combine my skills in spatial and quantitative analysis, machine learning, and natural language processing to uncover patterns and insights from complex and unstructured data sources. 

Currently, I am a senior project manager and museum scientist at New York State Museum, where I lead projects to evaluate and mitigate the risks to cultural and heritage resources.  I also serve as a founding partner at Rubicon Insight Social Consulting LLC, where I apply my anthropological knowledge and analytical skills to advise clients on the social aspects of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and public policy. In addition, I hold a Master of Science in Data Science from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Arts in Anthropology from University at Albany, SUNY. 

My passion is to explore the realms of unsupervised and semi-supervised learning, Bayesian analysis, graph-based algorithms, and natural language understanding, and to apply them to various domains and challenges. I am always eager to learn new methods and technologies, and to share my findings and experience with others.
