It’s kind of like being handed the keys to the Sahara desert... and asked to make it bloom.

When Tokyo University of Agriculture approached me to work on a project in Djibouti, there was no hesitation. I was all in. No blah blah Just To Do it.

Imagine this: a $4.5 million project, 30+ researchers, and the goal? To uncover the greening potential in one of the most challenging climates on earth. The stakes were high—500,000+ lives potentially impacted by climate risk.

What happened next?

✦ Built deep learning models for land surface fault detection using geospatial images (think satellites and drones working overtime).

✦  Developed simulations to locate underground water sources—essential for semi-arid areas like Djibouti.

✦ Trained 10+ young scientists in applied AI for agriculture, turning knowledge into real-world solutions.

Oh wait, did we make a difference? Yes. We. Did!

Safe to say, Djibouti has a future in climate resilience...

And that is when you see Emerging Tech making the impact we want to see.

An innovative last mile solution for the fiber that landed on the East African Shores, Uhuruone was on a mission to distribute the fiber into the home, office, school, and popular public areas giving its subscribers true wireless broadband  at their finger tips. UhuruOne successfully Deployed TVWS into 4 Major Universities and had the first Commerical TV Whitespace License Issued by a Regulatory body in the World, Broadband4Wote was a Public Private Partnership that Include Microsoft (Airband Initiative), Costech, and UhuruOne. The partnership further worked together in the Establishment of the Dynamic Spectrum Alliance, as founding members along side other industry giants. UhuruOne also launched the first 4G dividend spectrum network in East Africa which was then acquired by Millicom currently being  the first and only 4G MVNO in Africa to Tigo 4G and Zantel. 

UhuruOne was the only prepaid payAsGo wifi network in Tanzania with a seemless 2.4/5GHz wireless network in a metropolitan city. As a company UhuruOne tested and perfected numerous technologies and participated in ITU, Africom, WEF, and many national intiative where it demonstrated the power of broadband. Alone side USAID, Microsoft, Cisco, Intel, and the Ministry of Education in Tanzania a PPP was entered to offer and pilot TZ21 Project managed by Creative Associate International. This project put Laptops, Emis, and Broadband service into over 640 primary school in Mtwara & Zanzibar for improved learning out comes.
