Your CEO doesn’t hate marketing. They hate that you can't prove that it works.

I’ve sat on both sides of this table.
As the marketer who lost the room pitching “brand.”
As the CEO who had to choose what to fund.

Here’s the pattern. Execs don’t fund activities. They fund de-risked outcomes.
And when you speak marketing, you sound risky.

Here's what I mean: Two leaders pitch the same plan.

Leader A: “We need thought leadership content to build trust.”
Leader B: “We are losing deals in month seven because trust shows up too late. This content builds trust in month two. That cuts our close time nearly in half.”

Leader A got a nod and a freeze.
Leader B got the budget and two hires.

Same plan. Different frame.

Here’s the translation guide.

“Brand awareness” → “We are invisible to in-market buyers.”
“Thought leadership” → “We cut months out of the sales cycle.”
“Community building” → “Customers close deals for us.”
“Content strategy” → “Prospects show up already convinced.”

The work doesn’t change. The way you sell it does.

When I missed, it wasn’t because the strategy was wrong. It was because I made my CEO choose between understanding my plan and trusting me with their budget. They picked what they understood.

So ask the uncomfortable question. If your CEO doesn’t get it, is that their problem or yours?

Stop defending your strategy.

CEO at Compound Growth Marketing

As the CEO of Compound Growth Marketing, I help B2B technology companies drive predictable revenue through effective demand generation, go-to-market, and US expansion strategies. I have over 13 years of experience in online marketing, new media, and Google analytics, working with various SaaS, B2B, and B2C companies. 

My mission is to share my insights and best practices with other entrepreneurs, executives, and experts who want to grow their businesses and scale their impact. That's why I host the Compound Growth Marketing Show, a podcast that tackles the challenges and opportunities of revenue marketing in the tech industry. I'm also a core member at Underscore VC, a mentor at Endeavor Greece, and an advisor at Demand Sage, where I support and partner with transformative and innovative founders and teams.

We tested CTV and saw a 6X conversion on downfunnel conversion. 

I'm sure it wasn't the only benefit, we likely saw a lift in branded search, direct and email response from outbound. 

In B2B, when we get on the day one list, we see better efficiencies down funnel. 

But we (B2B marketers) are hesitant to run brand media because its not measureable (most of the time). 

We ran CTV to 91K people across our ICP. The study showed accounts exposed to those ads converted at 639% higher rates than unexposed accounts when they later hit our lead forms. We also saw a 14% lift in click-through rates.

We didn't track branded search lift. Or direct traffic. Or email response rates from the same account lists. But after running programs like this before, I am sure:
- Branded search volume from those accounts is increasing
- Direct traffic from their domains is likely up
- SDRs' emails to those accounts are probably getting opened more
- Sales conversations with warmed accounts should feel different

Why? Because I saw a similar impact when I've run Meta ads for a proptech vendor, or when I ran TV ads when I was at LogMeIn.

None of this would show up in the CTV attribution. No clean conversion path. No last-click pixel. But the behavioral change is real. But it can be (not always) tough to prove. 

We know intuitively when we create momentum. When it feels like our brand is everywhere... that the result will be better conversations with sales. 

92% of buyers end up buying from companies that were on their day one list. Its very difficult to reverse this momentum.
