How long does it actually take for a non-technical person to build their first AI agent?

Last night at buildersklub, Marvin Aziz from Lindy led a workshop with no buzzwords, no "AI will replace everyone" hype.

But here’s what made it special: we didn’t just talk about AI agents.
We built one. Live. From scratch.

Marvin walked a room full of business folks (most without technical backgrounds) through creating their first AI agent. 

Here is what we learned:

→ AI agents aren’t just fancy chatbots: they’re autonomous systems that can handle complex workflows 
→ You don’t need to be a developer to build them (seriously, we proved it last night) 
→ The key is starting small: one task, one agent, one problem at a time 
→ Memory + Tools + Clear Instructions = Powerful automation

Building with AI is becoming a practical skill rather than a technical barrier. Now that the technology is accessible to everyone, a big differentiator is knowing what to build.

Is the secret to scaling AI and Automation actually... boring? 

For the final stop of the German AI Roadshow by Make and buildersklub, we skipped the hype and looked at the plumbing. 

We had the pleasure of hosting Florian Kristof (Peter Park) and Fabian Q. Veit (CEO of Make) to discuss why you have to “start boring” if you want to build fast.

Florian’s team of three manages nearly 600 active scenarios. His main takeaway? If you don’t have a strict foundation, you’re not building a product. You’re building a “maintenance trap.”

Here are the highlights that stood out to me:
- "Start Boring": Before building fancy AI agents, you need the basics. Strict naming conventions and a solid decision framework are the only ways to survive scaling from 100 to 600 scenarios.

- Catching “Silent Failures”: Errors are easy to spot; it’s the triggers that don’t fire that kill you. They built a custom observability layer to catch these “silent failures” before the business even notices.

- The “AutoMax” Feedback Loop: They built a mascot bot that automatically surveys users. If a workflow isn’t providing value, they kill it. It’s product thinking applied to automation—focus on impact, not just output.

- AI Documenting AI: To prevent documentation from suffering during growth, they use AI agents to automatically write documentation for every scenario and review builds against internal design principles.

Fabian also shared some heavy-hitting strategic insights:

- The Reliability Mix: Long-term impact isn't created by AI alone, but by combining intelligent components with reliable, rule-based automation.

- The CEO’s “Second Brain”: Fabian uses a custom Telegram bot to triage links, ideas, and screenshots based on his calendar context, allowing him to stay fully present in the real world.

It’s easy to get distracted by the "magic" of AI, but the companies actually winning are the ones treating automation as a disciplined craft. 

No buzzwords. No nonsense. Just clear, practical implementation.

This year marks 5 years since I went solo and fully remote.

A lot has changed since. I could share a carousel with highlights, talk about my 4-month LinkedIn hiatus or work I won, but where’s the fun in that? 😅

Instead, let’s talk about the times I had to push through 
(and what I learned instead):

✅ Saying no is a growth strategy
↳ Lesson: I thought I needed to say yes & more to everything because I was so worried I wouldn't make enough money for the next X months. Turns out, I just needed to focus on the right work and adjust my rates to match the value I bring.

✅ Remote work is fun, but so is stability
↳ Lesson: Being remote doesn’t mean hustling 24/7 from a different time zone. Now I have a fixed home in France, a co-working space and a growing community. And the foundations keep growing.

✅ Health took a hit in late 2025
↳ Lesson: If I want my career to thrive, my mental and physical health have to come first. So, I took a reset in Brazil, upgraded my fitness routine, and started practising mindful eating again. When I’m at my best, my business is too.

Above all, I’ve learned that there is something really freeing about unapologetically wanting both: a career you built and the life you don’t want to run from.

And here’s the thing: It’s easy to get distracted by what others are doing. How much money they’re making, how often they travel, how successful they all look & appear on ‘paper’.

You have to block it out. Build and sustain your support system. And keep moving.

A friend of mine has been at the same company for 15 years. Meanwhile, I’ve jumped around - 9 - 5 corporate, freelancing, even contracting abroad.

He’s worked under 3 different CEOs, grown departments from scratch, and built the kind of trust you can only earn by staying through every season.

Meanwhile, every move I made exposed me to different leadership styles, gave me solid T-shaped knowledge & lessons I wouldn’t have found by staying put.

For a long time, we both wondered if one of us had chosen the “right path” - him investing in corporate stability and climbing the ladder, me betting on career transitions and experimentation.

The truth is, both paths worked. We just built our careers ✨ differently ✨ .

The real career red flag isn’t staying too long or moving too fast - it’s forcing yourself into someone else’s version of success, or whatever’s trending on your LinkedIn feed this week.

So maybe the question isn’t “Which path is better?” but “Which path serves the life and career I want to build - right now and in the future?”

My career journey hasn't been linear. And I'm grateful for that.

In university, I studied finance and wanted to become an accountant. I finished my degree and stepped into media instead.

By 29, I'd mapped out my path from media to brand management. By 31, I'd changed my mind and leapt into management consulting.

And then I found my space in consulting, tech, and digital transformation.

Now I contract for an EU company and a few smaller UK clients, work fully remote, and I'm loving it. But it took time, multiple jobs, and a lot of experimentation.

So if you're not sure what you want to do, own it!

↳ Look for roles that let you explore different expertise areas 
↳ Contract or freelance work gives you room to test different paths 
↳ Get support from someone who's been there 
↳ Give yourself permission to change direction

People see non-linear paths and assume something went wrong.

I see mine and recognise all the growth that happened because I didn't force a straight line.

Your career is allowed to evolve - you've got this 🙌🏽

A while ago, I shared my CV that helped me get into Meta and Unilever.

But I haven’t shared enough about the similar work I now do with my coaching clients.

I recently worked with Paul.

He’s a Senior IT Project Manager who has delivered major transformation programmes across telecoms, automotive, and security companies.

His old CV was good - but it undersold the impact of his work.
It focused on responsibilities instead of results.

So here’s what we focused on:
