India needs this law more than most countries.

Every few months we hear disturbing stories, someone stops medical treatment after watching a “miracle cure” online, or loses life savings after following a social-media “finfluencer.” People struggling with mental health are advised by self-proclaimed coaches who have never studied psychology.

Offline, these professions are regulated. Doctors need NMC registration, investment advisors need SEBI approval, and lawyers must be enrolled with the Bar Council of India.

But online, anyone with a phone and confidence can give advice to millions  with no qualifications or accountability.

With 800M+ internet users, misinformation spreads fast. Even the WHO called this an “infodemic.”

India needs laws requiring verified credentials for professional advice online. Lives and savings cannot depend on #unqualified #influencers.

I called off my wedding in Bengaluru.

My partner's family stays in Whitefield, and with the wedding in JP Nagar, and my family in Jayanagar, it was considered "too far" for us to manage the logistics. 

"If there was a Metro, we could have considered na" my ex-mother-in-law said compassionately. I nodded.

I turned to Bumble, but only two matched. And both of them looked at the distance of 14.5 km separating us from true love, and said long-distance relationships are tough. I nodded. 

Now, I have just one avenue left. My neighbor's apartment is empty. I am hoping to marry whoever moves in - dog, cat, man or woman - who cares? They are next door! In Bengaluru, that's all that matters. 

Now, even some of my oldest, dearest friends are hemming and hawing at attending an event to support me. A friend told me "we must catch up" on Dec 25th, 2027 at 11am after assuring me that his AI had accurately predicted this as the most traffic-free day of the decade. I last saw him in 2023 when he was running to catch a mouse or a cab in Bellandur. 

Bengaluru is not a city, people.

It's multiple cities. 

Those who live in the city of Indiranagar will not dare come to Yelahanka City. Those who are in Jayanagar City will need a visa to come to Whitefield City. 

So...

I will resume my watch on the neighbor's door.

I am not much of an optimist. I am the person who will look at you skeptically if you tell me the sun will rise tomorrow.

Offer me hope, and I will think you are a poor, misguided soul. 

But for once, for a few hours, all my cynicism and skepticism burrowed themselves deep in Khushi Bun's fur at the launch of the MyndStories Anthology, Our Stories Are Us.

Around 40 people RSVPed, and nearly 35 of them turned up on a Saturday evening. Khushi Bun was the Chief Guest, launching the book with a rip and a tear - the book survived, thankfully. 

I wasn't allowed to sing even though I had practised my Grammy-award-winning song, We Are The Mosquitoes, before. Anima Nair threatened to walk out, if I did. 

Some of us cried. Some of us shared stories. Most of them teased me.

This wasn't the end - it's the beginning of what will be other books. Sumit is already at work on a book about animals and their stories of healing. Another longer, deeper anthology is planned.

I hope to be allowed to sing at the launch of these books. 

Support the writers by buying a copy - most of them aren't professional writers. They wrote because they felt they had to.

This is a well-researched post on the only social media presence I have.

Let's break it down:
19,604 followers:

- 9,000 who never see my posts, and will immediately unfollow if they do.
- 4,000 people who lurk and see EVERYTHING but will never tell you. 
- 3,000 who followed me during one viral week in Jan 2024 and forgot why.
- 1,200 bots,  including that one bot who reposted everything and then broke my heart by disappearing. Even bots abandon me?
- 560 who realized too late that they had followed the wrong person.
- 300 people who meant to unfollow but are polite.
- 23 who react to everything.
- 9 who comment consistently.
3 who DM me to say I inspired them, and then never talk to me again.

This does not include approximately 435 LinkedIners who have blocked me.

Additional findings:
➡️ 742 who only engage if I post about corporate speeches, never if I post about grief, feminism, or other such weird topics. 
➡️118 who read the entire post but stop short of reacting because “What will people think?”
➡️12 who think I am talking about them personally every single time.
➡️41 who disagree violently but in silence.

About 3.5 people will do the math and tell me I got the numbers wrong. 

Methodology:
All numbers are based on feelings, instinct, and advanced delusion modelling.
Conclusion:
A follower both exists and does not exist at the same time.

In March everyone is rushing to file their income tax.

But for 365 days, I pay the ADHD Tax. 

This ADHD tax is the obvious and hidden cost of living with this disorder. Let me give you an example:

➡️ Time blindness: I had to pay Rs 100 extra as a late payment on my Airtel bill. This isn't the first time. Over the last 12 months, there have been at least 4 such instances. That's already Rs 400. It seems small, but that's just ONE bill.

People with ADHD are almost 3 times more likely to miss bill payments and equally at risk of struggling with debt.

➡️ Impulse buying: Most of my purchases are between 9:30 PM and midnight. I wake up the next day and hold my dopamine-starved head in despair. This is not a moral failing, but neurological. ADHD results in poor inhibition, both on a shopping cart and emotionally. 

➡️ Forgetfulness: You think you take that trial, and WILL remember it. Sadly, no. I have about 5k worth of subscriptions that I can't cancel, and I didn't really want. 

➡️ Hidden Bias: Out of sight is really out of mind. This results in stuff such as spoiled groceries because I forgot they were in the fridge. Irregularities in medicine-taking because I forgot to reorder Inspiral. 

➡️ Emotional Dysregulation: I feel deeply. I care about everything. The result? Emotional bandwidth depletion. I spend so much feeling for my writers, the community, and my relationships that the executive function tasks (the invoice, the contract, the follow-up email) feel almost impossible to start. 

This is just a fraction of the ADHD cost. Put together, annually, it might run into lakhs. 

So, next time someone tells you, "Everyone is a little ADHD," please tell them you know better.

Is this funny? 

I am genuinely asking. 

Being neurodivergent, I often don't get what passes as humor. 

But this meme struck me as being in poor taste.

Have we run out of jokes that we have to make fun of suicide? Whatever happened to hens crossing the road?

For context, I am a suicide loss survivor, work in suicide prevention and have had lifelong suicidal ideation. 

So tell me, please. What's the joke?

I have become Batwoman. 

Ever since I realized my dog, Khushi Bun, fears houseflies, my waking hours are spent searching for them. 

The thing with houseflies is that unless they come to you, you can't go to them. 

At first, I bought a spray that promised to eliminate me, houseflies, mosquitoes, and tiny, unnamed beings methodically. It did nothing. I remained alive, and the ants continued their Ant Yatra. The house pleasantly smelled of lemongrass, but Khushi Bun was still shivering.

I turned to loyal friends for advice. One suggested I read 'Lord of the Flies' to Bun. Another suggested I buy a fly-zapping machine, but the weird noise would have zapped me dead before any fly. 

Every day, Bun would shiver, quiver, and rush under my desk, where she would spend the rest of the day. I soon started to hallucinate flies wherever I went. I met a friend for tea, and I reached out to brush what I thought was a fly off her jacket. She was affronted. I hastened to tell her that her jacket was pristine and I was just searching for...flies. 

But I fear she is not talking to me again.

However, dear readers, persist and you will fly. 

Last week, I spotted the fly! With remarkable agility that belied all my fat, I sprang into action and chased it, with Bun's barking as the background bass, until finally, exhausted, the fly flew out of a window.

I drank 4 bottles of water in relief.

But after a few hours, Bun ran in again. 

More flies? God fly it! Where are you??!! I yelled. I spent my weekends researching fly theories. Even the friendly Good Morning Uncle, who only speaks to me to wish me good morning, started to ask me, "Did you catch the fly? Good morning!"

I felt defeated. It is easier to get VC funding than catch a fly. 

My Mom stopped asking about me and instead began her calls with, "How is the fly?"

A friend suggested a sticky trap. And then, another who claimed more expertise in such matters, Swati Nair, said that I should try the Fly Bat. It sounded exotic and sporty. 

I bought it. 

Now, I run around my little apartment waving the Fly Bat. Once, I accidentally zapped my own hair, but apart from that, the Fly Bat hasn't caught the errant fly. I have tried different actions and wrist positions. The slow Fly Dance. Maybe the Fly Salsa? I swirl it like Ravindra Jadeja. At other times, I imagine myself as silken Federer. 

All this action has helped me lose 0.3 gms of weight. And the hidden fly must have lost another 0.3 gms trying to evade me.

But we have failed to meet each other. 

My ADHD Rejection Sensitivity is now yelling at me: See! Even a fly doesn't come to you!

Someone suggested I pray to the Fly Deity, located 3.4 miles east, while the sun sets. What does one offer to the deity? I have bought some burfis, and honey, and with fresh flowers, I now depart.
