I'm Amalia - a long-time community builder with a soft spot for tech and a decade of experience in the art of bringing people together business. I’ve led initiatives and events alongside cool partners like Sana Labs, Greenely, and Internetstiftelsen - always with the goal of creating better people focused events.

Over the years, I’ve come to describe myself as living at the intersection of blaze, bureaucracy & business (or bus, byråkrati & business, if you’re feeling Swedish):

🌪️ Blaze: because I don’t just join communities, I ignite them.
✍️ Bureaucracy: because structure is what makes community last.
✨ Business: because building things that matter requires momentum and guts.

These days, I’m pouring all of that into shaping a more intentional, human-centered tech industry - through crewcial, Women in Tech Sweden, and some really good fika.

It's my annual-post-of-the-year-time: In a world of lagom, be a Sara Danius 🩷🧡 

And for context, for those of you that don't know her:

Sara Danius (1962-2019) was a literary scholar, writer, and the first woman to lead the Swedish Academy - the group behind the Nobel Prize in Literature.
 
When the Academy faced a major #metoo scandal, she stood up for transparency. For doing the right thing. And instead of being supported, she was sidelined. Pushed out to “protect the institution” - even though she was the one trying to fix it.

She reminds me everyday that doing the right thing isn't necessarily easy.

Keep on being gravel in their shoes. Things will change.

Helping you find communities | Sweden’s tech & DEI equivalent to Leslie Knope

My life is currently a TORNADO. Somehow, yesterday I got the national #addher Superstar award 😭

In pure shock I just rambled a thank you speech. But what I would have liked to say is:

I am tired of seeing potential go to waste.

👉 80% of Swedish jobs are landed through networks.
👉 We lose ~SEK 270 billion/y to labor-market exclusion.
👉 If women scaled companies like men, we unlock $5T.

All of those issues have a problem in common:

Network gaps.

What's lacking is warm intros. 
Being named in the rooms you're not in.
And getting through doors rarely opening on their own.
 
That's why I left safety, quit my job, & built crewcial.
That's why I also spend time at Women In Tech Sweden.
That's why I help people find communities they long for.
That's why I help event organizers with distribution. 
That's why I relentlessly open those doors.

Because diversity pays off. But we must stop talk the talk & start walk the walk.

And that starts with a handshake.
A "so what do you do?"
A "how can I help?"

At a meetup, conference, or hackathon.

If you're not in those rooms where it happens, you're missing out. On opportunities, investments, credibility.

And right now at AI & tech events, we lack minority groups. Both on stage and in the crowd. And it's not that they don't exist... But reach & distribution is lacking - due to the algorithms on the platforms & social media.

That's why I do what I do, and this award fuels my fire to keep on going.

We cannot lose track of what diversity actually means.

Nothing moves the needle if you never get to show up.
And I’m here to get you in the room - and make it count.

World’s largest Fixathon touched down in Sthlm at Norrsken. Happy to have been one of the spiders in the net making it happen.

Longer tear dripping post is a Monday problem.

Now: sleep for as long as humanely possible.

Something I'm IMMENSELY proud of? That our Fixathon showed that AI hackathons can attract women.

Impact Loop VC interviewed me, Judith & Sofia from Norrsken about how we managed to have:

20 of 30 female jury members.
Ca 40% female participants.

And as you all know, this is my PASSION.

Because I refuse to believe that women are uninterested in AI & hackathons, when e.g organisations like Women In Tech Sweden is now 31k community members strong.

Instead, I believe we as organizers need to take our responsibility and make sure we reach outside of our own networks. When it comes to attendees. Speakers. Jurors.

We got 100 days to create the worlds' biggest Fixathon. But it started here - with a hi to Judith at TechBBQ.

(I thought she was crazy bananas cool and was actually nervous to go up.)

When she told me her vision & that they needed someone that knew events, I was sold on the spot.

Cut 100 days later (!!!! on the DAY!!!) - with us kicking off the most fun, crazy, challenging and rewarding event I've ever worked on. 

Seeing the 200+ builders we handpicked* come together will forever be etched into my retina. 

It's the people that makes the party.

It was not only the lack of sleep that made me bawl to closing the 24hs with Coldplay's Fix You - people put in their whole heart, mind, and soul to what they built.

So thankful to have done this with Judith, Max, Pelle, Sofia, Per, & the wonderful Norrsken team Emma, Anna, Aieli, Erik & Cristian among others that pitched in.

Especially a big thanks to Osama, Geetesh, Merkeb, Oskar, Stefano & Andrey - my fantastic ops team that went above and beyond in all they did.

*YES!!! We actually read EVERY single application and matchmaked people that signed up as individuals. It took a week. 10/10 would do it again.
