Hi, I’m Christian Vinceneux, a Life and Parent Coach dedicated to inspiring and empowering parents to become calm and confident when raising a neurodivergent child. I provide practical solutions to problems big and small!

For over 30 years, I had a rewarding career as an occupational therapist working in mental health and pediatrics. At some point, I found myself itching for doing something different. Stress and burnout levels were increasing. I kept trying to use my self-care strategies and hobbies to cope the best I could. Yoga, meditation, traveling, cooking, entertaining, salsa dancing... all were great but there were no longer sufficient at keeping me calm and grounded. I wanted more - personally and professionally.

I wanted better work/life balance, no matter what it was going to take but I also wanted to expand my work in supporting others' growth, mental health, and well being. I wanted to leverage all of my knowledge, experience, and a lifetime of personal transformation to continue to be of service to others. 

In October 2018, I made the jump and created Life Guide Coaching, Inc, where I started providing coaching services as a Life and Parent Coach.

This job came out of wanting to go back to working directly with clients. Letting go of the administrative duties of running a business was exactly what I needed at the time. My prior professional relationship with the company CEO was instrumental in creating a vision to 1. Contribute to the expansion of the company and 2. Allow me to develop a brand new occupational therapy department while leveraging all of my past experience. 

I always looked for ways to push my clinical skills and this job took me to the next level! The balance of support and autonomy allowed me to integrate my own approach with the company's philosophy. I continued to push myself to find ways to facilitate change with the children and adolescents I worked with. Through a compassionate, intuitive, and focused approach, I empowered parents to address everyday challenges they were facing with their child. 

The company expanded. The children loved coming to therapy. Many parents acknowledged that their child was making progress for the first time. Others expressed that their child was progressing faster than ever. My approach continued to evolve. I became excellent at facilitating social and emotional growth in children. I was known to always find ways to motivate children to engage in challenging tasks to facilitate new learning. I was guiding parents to shift their perspectives and develop new skills to support their children's growth, which paved the way to transitioning into my current role of parenting coach.

How do I summarize a 21 year journey??!!

The facts:
- Co-started and co-directed two private companies to provide occupational therapy services to children, adolescents, adults, and seniors in various settings
- Developed unique evaluations and therapy programs 
- Set up several occupational therapy pediatric clinics
- Collaborated with multidisciplinary teams, including psychotherapists, teachers, educational therapists, speech therapists, psychiatrists, nurses, etc
- Consulted with dozens of school districts in California and Hawaii
- Provided numerous expert testimonies in due process hearings related to school cases
- Frequently presented to parent support groups, schools, national and community organizations

Why:
I wanted to advocate for those who didn't have a voice. I wanted to push the envelope. Whenever a client was described as not able to make progress or facing insurmountable obstacles, I would become motivated to see if more could be done. 

What happened:
Watching clients of all ages improve and overcome obstacles was exhilarating. Pushing myself and my staff to keep finding new ways to support clients' growth kept me motivated. Kids confidence, skills, and wellbeing all improved. Parents' stress level decreased. Family relationships improved. 

What I loved the most:
The personal and professional growth. The challenge of facilitating change in my clients when others said it wasn't possible. Watching clients getting better. Parents gaining better understanding of their child's needs and developing stronger bonds with their children. Always being in learning mode. 

What was tough:
- As the business grew, I found myself being more of an administrator and missing the clinical work with my clients. I got burned out. I eventually decided to close the business and go back to clinical work. The decision was tough but it was a lesson in self acceptance and doing what was best for me, even when many around me were not supportive of my decision.

I had minimal experience working with families who experienced homelessness. After contacting the SDRM to inquire about how I could contribute to give back through their programs, the most exciting collaboration started. Some of my work included: 

- Advocating for children with special needs (evaluations, IEPS, etc)
- Empowering mothers to advocate for their child in school settings, and for themselves. 
- Providing mothers with consultation on issues related to educational, learning, and emotional needs 
- Consulting with program psychotherapists on complex cases
- Developing therapy groups for children and co-facilitating with psychotherapists

One of the many great memories was to develop and facilitate a weekly group where children planned, prepared, and ate a fruit salad! Although it could seem insignificant to some, it was amazing to witness how much the children transformed. At first, they were unable to focus or follow directions, and experienced many behavior challenges. They gradually became more motivated, calmer, and took great pride in what they were preparing. They invited their mothers to be part of the experience. Many moms were in tears when watching how responsible and proud their child was. The consistency of the weekly gatherings around food and nurturing relationships became a powerful agent for growth.

Many of the children I worked with at SDCC had experienced a form of abuse (emotional, physical, sexual) and had complex educational, learning, emotional, and behavioral needs. SDCC was also the site of one of the first classrooms especially designed for children with autism, which was an exciting project to collaborate with. 

I worked side by side with a great team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, teachers, recreational therapists, art therapists, and music therapists. My services included evaluations, treatment planning, program development, group and individual therapy, consultations to parents and clinical team members, and clinical presentations. 

The challenges that the children experienced were so complex that it really pushed me to find the best possible ways to create growth and healing. There was no place for complacency but only for compassion, hope, and the unwavering belief that change was possible. Witnessing the children begin to believe in themselves and others and grow in unexpected ways was what fueled my work. I will always remember SDCC as an amazing place to learn and grow.

I'm Christian Vinceneux, a neurodivergent coach serving families raising children with ADHD and Autism. 

I'm neurodivergent. I grew up in a neurodiverse family. And I've worked my entire life with neurodiverse families, especially those raising an ADHD/Autistic child. I get it! ​

My personal and professional growth have been intertwined in so many ways. With a blend of passion, humility, empathy, and understanding, I deeply believe that I am meant to do this work.
