It's about that time to let the world know I'm deaf. 

My data shows I haven't posted a video in over a year. 

I used to post videos once a week. 

I did it for one SIMPLE reason. 

To let the world know, or more specifically, my prospects know they were going to hopping on a call with a person who has a weird accent. 

And it worked. 

And then I got lazy and didn't want to post videos any more.

"I don't mean to insult you... but, are you deaf?" and we went on to talk about sign language. 

Another: "Is your mic broken? Because it's making you sound like Kermit the frog". 

No, my good sir, my mic is top of the line!

Yet another... "Has anyone told you that you sound like Mickey Mouse?"

No, my man... that's a first 😉 

So, here's my very belated PSA. 

Yes, I'm deaf. 

-- Had spinal meningitis when I was 18 months old. Burnt the ear nerves into crisp. 

-- I lost all balance for years. Touch me and I'd fall over. 

-- Went to speech school in Mississippi when I was in kindergarten.

-- I talk well for a deaf (as people tell me) because I wasn't born deaf and went to a pretty intensive speech school ran by very southern ladies.  

-- I'm what you call lower case deaf (as opposed to Deaf). So, not culturally deaf, grew up mainstream, no deaf exposure (no sign language). I'd run into Deafies much later in life, and found out that I wasn't deaf enough to be Deaf. Thought that was dumb. So I exited that culture. 

-- Learned sign language at 25 at grad school.

-- Married a deaf wife soon after. 

-- Taught K-12 to HEARING kids for 7 years(muahahah)

-- I don't think deafness is a superpower nor a tragedy. It is what it is. I don't know any other reality. I don't spend much time thinking about it unless I have to (like those calls). 

So, this post will accomplish a few things. 

1. Hopefully my sales calls will see this before we meet later today. 
2. Weeds out people who'd have a problem with it (win win)
3. Reminds me I should prolly get back on video

Life didn’t start easy.
Building a sustaining income from our own business is not always easy!


Growing from doing somethign to creating it as a successful business takes a lot of adjustments and choices.

Life is a good model for us, and remembering what we have done or gone through is suggested!

I was born three months early because my mom took an abortion drug. 

My dad did not think i was his kid for a few years.
You want someone who is willing to fight with and for you...

My dad passed when I was 5,  By six, I’d been separated from my brother, been molested the first time and moved from my hometown and school.

I had already seen more than most adults should. 

I learned early that silence was safer than speaking.

Getting my voice took decades to have the guts to use it.

By ten, I was in a blended family that looked good from the outside 

But felt like starting over again,  with a lock on my bedroom door.

A reminder that “different” wasn’t always welcome.
But different was always a part of me since birth.

So I did what, a lot of kids like me feel isolated or out of place.

 I found safety in friendships.
 Those people became my chosen family,  and 55 years later, they still are.

That kind of loyalty, love, and persistence shaped how I live and work today.

I hitchhiked across the country at 18, lived in Boston for 6 years, and started learning what I was really made of.

Fast forward decades later 
I built success, then through my own distractions and neglect lost it all in 2009

That same day of my bankruptcy I realized something money could never teach me:

 I wasn’t what happened to me.
 I was who was and became through it.

Bankruptcy stripped me of things, not wealth.

That change is the reason that guided me to my purpose.

I started coaching because John Gray (Men are from Mars Women from Venus fame) saw something in me before I did. 

That led me home, not to a place, but to myself.
