When Decisions Feel Easy, Someone Else Pays for It

I see this often when I’m working with global healthcare teams.

The pressure is high, timelines are tight, and everyone knows delays are costly.

So leaders move quickly. No one wants to be the reason things slow down.

In multilingual teams, this has a quiet effect.

People track the speed of the room by adjusting their timing. They decide which questions can wait and which ones won’t be asked at all.

The work keeps moving, but understanding becomes uneven.

Later, teams are surprised by misalignment. 

There are different interpretations and different executions.

What’s rarely examined is how often speed itself becomes the standard long before clarity ever gets a chance.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱...𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹.

Networking in healthcare is often awkward. It takes time most people don’t have. 

And it’s usually the first thing to get pushed aside.

I’m considering hosting a 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗹𝘆 𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀.

Not language-focused. Not a training or webinar.

Just a 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱, 𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 where people across healthcare can connect in a real way.

That includes physicians, researchers, nurses, pharmacists, and administrators.

The format would be simple: 
• Short, timed 1:1 or small-group conversations 
• Clear prompts (no awkward small talk) 
• Rotation, so you meet several people in under an hour

The goal isn’t networking harder. It’s making professional connections easier.

Especially in a field where time is limited and conversations often stay surface-level.

This would be 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲, once a month, and open to both native and non-native English speakers.

Before building anything, I want to see if there’s real interest.

In global teams, I’ve seen this again and again:

When leaders use humor 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, the room changes. 

People relax, hierarchy softens, and conversation opens. This isn’t about telling jokes. It’s about signaling safety.

Of course, it takes awareness. What works in one culture won’t always land in another.

But when used with care, humor becomes a bridge between accents, roles, and ways of thinking.

In healthcare, that matters because when people feel safe, they speak up. 

And when people listen, outcomes improve.

I once watched a meeting end early because everything felt "aligned".

Someone raised a concern. Leadership acknowledged it.
 
The room stayed calm, and the conversation moved on.

Two weeks later, that same issue came back louder, messier, and framed as an unexpected problem.

Most Communication Failures Don't Look Like Failures

Grateful to Karla J. Aghedo (Hardy) for the invitation to speak at the H3W Virtual Women’s Wellness Summit earlier this month.

I spoke about something many women carry quietly: the shift from 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 to 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘁𝘆.

It’s always meaningful to speak outside of healthcare, especially on topics that cut across every industry and every stage of life.

There was a time I had less than $10 in my account as a single mother of two. 

What changed wasn’t luck or hustle.

It was building 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘵𝘺 first and letting my decisions follow from there.

One thing I see often with globally trained healthcare professionals is this:

You’re capable and experienced, but you don’t always have a space to 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀 before high-stakes moments, such as medical presentations, important meetings, and difficult conversations.

ECA member Trésor Salix Ngabirano,MD suggested something simple and powerful:

A 𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗿-𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.

It would be a free session held once a month... no English coaching, no services offered.

Just healthcare professionals helping each other prepare, refine, and think clearly.

The idea would be: 
• one healthcare-focused topic per session 
• small-group discussion or practice 
• practical, real-world situations 
• free and open to the public, once a month
