For some, it isn’t something they think about at all.⁣

Some family disputes are about money.⁣
But the ones that linger for years are often about clarity, timing, and intention.⁣
⁣
The Genting inheritance saga (one of Malaysia’s most closely watched estate battles) has entered another pivotal chapter.⁣
⁣
It began in 2022, when Lim Siew Kim, daughter of Genting Group founder Lim Goh Tong, signed a final will just months before her death from advanced ovarian cancer. That will redistributed her multi-million-ringgit estate in ways that surprised many, prompting two of her daughters to challenge its validity in court.⁣
⁣
Fast forward to early 2026, and the trial is well underway… 

Disputes over evidence, 
questions about her mental capacity at the time of signing, 
and allegations of suspicious circumstances have kept this case in the headlines. 

Not merely as a legal battle, but as a reflection of how fragile estate plans can become when intentions are unclear.⁣
⁣

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗲 ⬇️⁣

• Multiple wills in quick succession (Several testamentary documents were created within a short timeframe, raising questions about consistency and genuine intent)⁣

• Uneven distribution of assets (The final will left a significant portion of the estate to certain beneficiaries and a foundation, leaving others with comparatively little)⁣

• Capacity concerns (Given her terminal illness at the time, there are serious allegations that she lacked the mental capacity to execute a valid will)
⁣

These are not just legal technicalities. 
They are human issues.

About understanding, fairness, timing, and respect for a person’s final wishes…⁣

When health issues are involved, establishing and documenting mental capacity becomes essential.⁣
⁣
3️⃣ Transparency reduces conflict⁣
When family members feel excluded or unclear about decisions, disputes often follow - not always out of malice, but out of uncertainty.

At its core, this isn’t just a story about money or inheritance.⁣

I came across an article recently where someone with a £3 million estate battled exactly that question. 

The underlying concern was clear = how do you protect your family from a potentially large tax bill without overcomplicating things?⁣
⁣
The article’s main message was simple but important:⁣
⁣
👉 Inheritance-tax insurance can help.⁣
👉 But it is not a magic solution.⁣
⁣
And this is where many people misunderstand it.⁣
⁣
Many assume inheritance-tax insurance always solves the problem. 

But it’s just one tool, and its value depends on proper structuring and alignment with overall plans.⁣
⁣⁣
That’s why inheritance planning is rarely about a single product.⁣
⁣
It’s about context.⁣
⁣
➡️ Different families have different asset mixes.⁣
➡️ Different countries have different tax regimes.⁣
➡️ Different stages of life require different strategies.⁣

Which is why professional legal and advisory guidance isn’t just helpful…It’s essential. 

Not because the concepts are impossible to grasp, but because the execution requires precision.⁣

Inheritance planning is not about finding a quick fix.⁣

It’s about building a structure that holds across jurisdictions, across generations, and across the uncertainties none of us can fully predict.

Career & Business growth look very different nowadays…

I remember during the earlier years, growing meant staying sharp within the business. ⁣

Understanding industry changes. 
Refining skills. 
Learning from mentors. 
Constantly adapting to new market conditions.⁣
⁣
It was about becoming better in the sense that you improve and broaden your skillsets so you can stand out in whatever industry you are in.
⁣
And for a long time, that definition of improvement served me well.⁣

But the pace of change today has expanded what growth now requires of us.⁣

In this digital age, learning is no longer just about keeping up with industry knowledge or sharpening professional skills. 

It’s also about understanding the tools that are reshaping how we work, think, and create value.⁣

That includes learning how to work alongside technology and learning how to work alongside AI.⁣

Not because it is trendy.⁣
Not because everyone is talking about it.⁣

But because productivity today is being redefined by how effectively we can integrate these tools into our daily workflow.⁣

Nowadays, it is all about finding new ways that could increase my productivity and help me focus on doing the more important things.

That’s why even in my 40s, I aim to learn more new tools and what this digital age has to offer.

For me, this isn’t just about personal efficiency.⁣

It’s also about leadership responsibility.⁣
⁣
⮞ If I want my team to grow, I have to keep growing first.⁣
⮞ If I want them to work smarter, I need to understand what “smarter” now looks like.⁣
⮞ If I want us to remain relevant and effective, then continuous learning cannot be optional.⁣

So these days, learning has taken on a broader meaning.⁣
⁣
Yes, it still involves deepening industry knowledge and sharpening professional judgment.⁣

But it also means staying curious about new ways of working.⁣

And being willing to adapt even when it means stepping into unfamiliar territory.⁣

Because the goal isn’t simply to keep up.⁣..

It’s to build a way of working that allows us to serve better, think clearer, and create more value over time…not just for ourselves, but for the people and teams who grow alongside us!

Sometimes, the most important market signals appear when nothing seems to be happening at all.⁣
⁣
⁣On 16 February, Singapore’s STI ended the trading day almost unchanged (inching up just 0.02% to 4,938.58). 

A marginal move, especially on the eve of Chinese New Year. 

But beneath that stillness was a clear message about how investors are thinking right now.⁣
⁣
The market wasn’t reacting.⁣
It was observing.⁣
⁣
This subdued performance reflects a prevailing sense of caution. 

A collective pause. 

A “wait-and-see” stance where many investors are holding back from significant moves.

Part of this caution also stems from the broader economic backdrop. Singapore’s trade recovery at the start of 2026 has been slightly weaker than expected. 

Key exports still grew 9.3% year-on-year (a positive figure) but the pace fell short of forecasts, reminding us that global demand remains uneven.⁣
⁣
Yet there is also a constructive way to view this.⁣
⁣
A slower-than-expected recovery does not necessarily signal weakness. 

It often reflects an economy recalibrating after a period of volatility… stabilising, consolidating, and building a more sustainable base for future growth.

And in many ways, this is how mature markets behave.⁣
⁣
Flat markets are often misunderstood. And this calls for a different kind of mindset.⁣
⁣
In bullish markets, confidence comes easily.⁣
In volatile markets, urgency takes over.⁣
But in quiet, cautious markets like this, discipline matters most.⁣
⁣
For seasoned investors and business owners alike, these quieter phases are not idle periods. 

They are moments to reassess fundamentals, strengthen positioning, and maintain clarity about long-term objectives.⁣
⁣
Not every opportunity announces itself loudly.⁣
Not every signal comes with dramatic price movements.⁣
⁣
Sometimes, the most telling sign is simply this:⁣
A market that chooses not to rush.⁣
⁣
And perhaps that is the broader reflection as we enter the new year.⁣
⁣
Progress does not always appear in sharp upward lines.⁣

Stability does not always feel exciting.⁣

But both are often necessary foundations for what comes next.⁣

Some documents are signed in ink.⁣ Others are signed in clarity.⁣

And when clarity is missing, even the most important documents can quietly fall apart.⁣

A recent Singapore High Court case in 2025 brought this into sharp focus.⁣
⁣
An elderly woman had signed a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA), appointing individuals to manage her affairs. 

On paper, everything seemed in order.⁣

But there was one critical question:⁣ Did she truly understand what she was signing?⁣
⁣
She had been diagnosed with dementia in 2020.⁣ By July 2023, it had progressed to moderate dementia.⁣

In August 2023 (after that diagnosis) she executed the LPA.⁣
⁣
The court examined whether she had the mental capacity to do so.⁣

Not just whether she could sign.⁣ But whether she could understand, retain, weigh, and communicate the implications of the decision.⁣
⁣
The conclusion was clear.⁣
She did not.⁣
⁣
Her memory issues and limited awareness of her own assets meant she could not fully appreciate the scope and consequences of the powers she was granting.⁣

The LPA was ruled invalid.⁣
⁣
And just like that, a document meant to provide certainty created uncertainty instead.⁣
⁣
This case carries a quiet but important reminder that…
⁣
Estate planning is not just about having documents in place.⁣ It’s about WHEN and HOW they are put in place.⁣
⁣
Because capacity is not a formality.⁣
It is the foundation.⁣
⁣
To execute an LPA, a person must understand what they are giving, who they are empowering, and how those decisions will shape their future. 

This goes beyond simple awareness. It requires the ability to weigh choices and consequences.⁣
⁣
This is yet another reminder that the right time to plan is not when urgency arrives...⁣but when clarity still exists.⁣
⁣
Because once that clarity fades, even the most carefully signed papers may no longer be able to carry the weight of a person’s true intentions.⁣

This applies far beyond fashion.⁣
