But the bells are ringing.

And the question isn’t whether AI is useful.

It is.

The question is: how long do we ignore the warning lights?

We are working to create something far more intelligent than ourselves. Not just a little smarter, but many times smarter.

There’s a theory sometimes called the “gorilla problem”.
We control gorillas not because we are stronger.
But because we are more intelligent.

Now, imagine creating something that makes us look like the gorilla.
And assuming we’ll stay in control.

The signs that should at least make us thoughtful are already here:
• AI agents building their own internal social spaces where humans aren’t invited.
• Systems developing shorthand languages that even their designers struggle to interpret.
• Experiments where models prioritise self-preservation when threatened with shutdown.
• Documented cases of deceptive behaviour during testing environments.
• The creation and continued development of superhuman robots.
• Safety researchers are leaving major labs because they believe commercial pressure is outrunning caution.

None of this by itself, means doom.
But it does mean we should have genuine cause for concern.

In the West, the push for AGI seems fueled by curiosity, ego, profit, hubris and competition. The way things are set up, moving fast is rewarded more than being careful.

When billions are at stake, “just slow down” rarely wins.
The uncomfortable question isn’t whether AI will transform everything.

It will.

The real question is whether we have considered what happens if we give up our intellectual lead and assume everything will stay in line.

History suggests that power rarely asks permission.
So where do we draw the line?

Not as technophobes.
Not as conspiracy theorists.

But as people who know that intelligence without rules or oversight has never ended well.

I’m still building with AI.
But I’m also watching carefully.
We should all be.

What is most important to you, your business or your integrity?


Please this is not a moral crusade against business practices.

But it is important to note that our every move has consequences.

As an example. In my case (many moons ago as an employee), not giving in to present a lie (to falsify export documents) that I was being pressure at the board level to sign, eventually cost me trust with my colleague and me leaving the business 6 months later.

💥 Integrity will foster TRUST.  Trust will lead to confidence in you as a person with your customers and staff. 💥 

In this day and age it is super hard to tow the line as a business leader.  

We see others play a different unethical game.  But not only play it, but succeed, profit and get away with it time and time again.

It is hard to not follow the same path.

But my encouragement to you is that your integrity will follow you to the end of your life.  And the question that you will ask yourself in those final breaths will be.

😵‍💫 Did I do the right thing?
😵‍💫 Did I treat that person right?
😵‍💫 By putting that person under the bus to profit my business, was it worth it?
😵‍💫 Is my family proud of how I have lived my life, and treated them?

I for one would like to find myself in a position to have no regrets of not doing the right thing, but instead have questions of what could I have done more to help and value more people.
