Responsibilities cover everything from supervising operations of the Front Desk and Housekeeping, to Human Resource Management, to bookkeeping, and financial planning. Planning and executing the sales and marketing strategy.

Best Western Plus Emerald Isle

During my tenure operating the Best Western Plus Emerald Isle, I was also managing the Inn On Long Lake. I oversaw a major renovation of this busy 65 room airport area hotel. Completion of the Best Western Property Improvemnt plan was a major milestone for myself and for the hotel.
I renegotiated airline contracts to maximize revenue and more accurately reflect market demands. I made major changes to staffing, organization, and revenue planning to make the hotel run more efficiently and effectively. 
While I am quite proud of the physical and financial changes, I am most excited by the team members I was able to recruit and retain in the tough labour market of the Victoria area. The assembled crew have every indication of ensuring the success of this property for a long time.

Sandman Hotel Group

Crisis management at its best. Primary responsibilities included scheduling, departmental budgeting, and customer complaint resolution. Coordinating efforts with Housekeeping and Maintenance to maintain efficient operations.

Holiday Inn Metrotown

Customer service and account reconciliation were primary duties. Coordinating efforts with on site security force to ensure safety and comfort of hotel guests. Cash control for the hotel and attached night club.

I have worked in the hotel industry for over 30 years now. I firmly believe in treating my guests and my staff with respect and courtesy, as I cannot do my job without either of those two groups. Honesty and integrity are vital.
Community involvement is something that you MUST do in this age. I have been involved with the Tour De Rock Nanaimo organizing committee for the last two years.  The Cops For Cancer Tour De Rock is an incredible autumn fundraising event, raising funds for Camp GoodTimes, and for pediatric cancer research. 
I am currently secretary treasurer of the Nanaimo Hospitality Association(NHA), and have been an active board member for 6 years. I was involved in the creation and implementation of the initial MRDT  and the business plan to administer the funds to promote tourism in this community. The NHA is working actively with Tourism Nanaimo, Tourism Vancouver Island, and the Vancouver Island Conference Centre with the overriding goal of "putting heads in beds" and ensuring the success of our industry.
