Saint Brendan’s Point Oyster Farm

In this role, I worked with the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, local farmers, and seafood restaurateurs to plan an oyster farm on 40 acres of leased land in accordance with Virginia maritime and agricultural law. Once we were ready to begin building, I worked with the property owner, Stephen O'Keefe, to write a grant proposal and win $40,000 from the United States Department of Agriculture. 

Using said $40,000, I hired and managed a small team to create a functioning oyster reef and farm in the Mobjack bay near Jamestown, Virginia.

I conducted a summer internship research at the laboratory of Professor Catherine Grosdemange-Billiard. My project consisted in synthesizing antimicrobial drugs that target and inhibit certain enzymes of the mevalonate-independent methylerythritol phosphate (MEP) pathway which is found in many pathogenic bacteria but absent in humans.

Scheduled patient appointments, took vitals, performed patient data entry and cleaned exam rooms.
