Here’s why in-house teams are losing to specialized service providers.

It’s been a while since I wanted to write about this take. My next newsletter is dedicated to why I came to this conclusion.

In the early Belkins days, we heavily relied on clients to tell us what they wanted.

But over the last few years, things have changed and now most clients don’t actually know what they want or need.

Why is that?

↳ We’re bombarded with misinformation: “success is quick,” “generate leads while you sleep,” “you just need this AI Clay-based workflow,” and other nonsense.

↳ There’s a critical lack of senior specialized talent, most marketing teams are built around generalists.

↳ Patience and long-term planning barely exist anymore; the market is so volatile that executives expect results now.

↳ There’s overwhelming technological complexity from signal tracking and intent capture to conversational intelligence — all creating noise and overpromising.

The rush to success pushes companies to cut corners and expect in-house teams to deliver numbers that used to take years to achieve.

Only specialized agencies on the front line can sift through the noise and decipher what actually needs to be done.

Just like no one regrets hiring coaches, soon every company will need its own specialized growth agency to guide them out of this mess.

I can share the market temperature based on Belkins’ traffic. Here’s how:


1,000 new businesses talk to Belkins each month. US, EU, APAC, across 20+ industries, from mom-and-pop shops to large enterprises.

Depending on interest level and engagement, I can see the trends of how well the market is doing.

For instance, #October was a crazy business month, this year it showed the delayed effect after September: up 30% compared to the previous month.

#November is about 25% slower than October, so we’re in line with the usual pre-holiday slowdown. 

Companies are playing it safe, planning for 2026, shortlisting vendors, but not making final decisions yet, most likely waiting until December or January.

Personally, I have hoped that increase of October will continue in November, but business is as usual, unfortunately.

Is anyone seeing different stats? Prove me wrong or confirm if you’re seeing the same.

The CEO of a $5B company just told me what disappointed him most about AI this year.

"We're polishing instead of inventing."

I asked Wade Foster this on our podcast. His answer cut through all the AI hype I've been hearing.

Since 2017, we've had exactly two breakthrough moments in AI: the transformer and reasoning models.

Everything else? Incremental improvements.

And those incremental gains are getting more expensive while delivering smaller returns each quarter.

Wade runs Zapier. They've been connecting tools and automating workflows since before "AI agents" became the buzzword du jour. So when he says the tech isn't a magic bullet, I listen.

"It's not God in a box," he told me.

That's why Zapier isn't chasing every shiny AI trend. They're not building their own model. They're not pretending AI will replace their entire workforce.

They're doing what they've always done — making tools work together. Just now with AI as another piece of the puzzle, not the whole solution.

Companies burning millions trying to force-fit AI into everything are missing the point.

The real opportunity isn't in the tech itself. It's in the orchestration, the connections, the boring stuff that actually makes businesses run.

Remember when outreach was straightforward?

Get ZoomInfo. Hire some juniors. Send emails. Book meetings.
