But here's what I've learned across 10+ years in finance as a fund analyst, investor, tech sales and startup operator, launching business during Ukraine's wartime economy — sitting on every side of the business table:

Wrench Attack - Data Breaches Have Physical Consequences. 

Ledger confirmed this week that customer names, addresses, emails, phone numbers and order details were exposed in a third-party breach at payment processor Global-e.

No seed phrases were compromised.

But that's not the point anymore.

The breach links real-world identities to proof of crypto-related purchases in a single dataset. Your home address. Your full name. Evidence you own a hardware wallet.

This is the fourth major breach in five years affecting crypto holders.

Ledger 2020. LastPass 2022. Trezor 2024. Coinbase 2025. Now Ledger again.

2025 became a record year for wrench attacks - physical assaults on crypto holders using coercion instead of hacking. At least 65 documented cases. The true number is likely far higher.

In January, Ledger co-founder David Balland was kidnapped from his home in France. Criminals demanded ransom.

In British Columbia, court documents revealed in November detailed a family held hostage overnight. The victim was tortured. His family assaulted. Two million dollars in Bitcoin was drained from their accounts.

In late 2025, a San Francisco tech investor was tied up at g*npoint in his home by an assailant posing as a delivery driver and forced over roughly an hour to transfer about $11 million in Bitcoin and Ethereum from his wallets.

Criminals aren't hacking wallets. They're using leaked data to find where you live, confirm you hold crypto, and apply physical force.

These datasets don't expire. The 2020 Ledger and 2022 LastPass dumps still circulate. Attackers combine old breaches with new ones to build complete profiles.

You need professionals who understand both digital forensics and executive protection. Firms that can assess your exposure, design multi-party custody models, and implement physical security protocols.

This is not hypothetical. It is happening now.
