It feels so clever. 

"I'm forcing placement! Cheap clicks!" You think you're beating the system.

Reality check: That setup is outdated.

A stronger base bid is what earns consistent placement. 

The placement % is meant to enhance a solid bid, not rescue a weak one.

The Sponsored Product Trap 

Now, look at what happens when you add audiences to Sponsored Products (SP).

SP depends on an exact match keyword to show.

You stack an audience on top.

Think about it: 

That exact match keyword already only appears in a limited number of spots. 

You are working in tight space.

Then you add the second filter:

Shopper must land on that specific search page.

AND Shopper must match your audience criteria.

➡️ You just created a target so narrow it barely fires.

That powerful audience feature becomes a tiny slice of exposure. 

It limits reach instead of scaling it.

The Takeaway is Simple: 

Low bid + high boost quietly reduces visibility. 

Add an audience on top? Your ad is barely in the game.

If growth is the goal, you remove constraints. 

You don't pile on more.

Amazon ads confuse a lot of people.

Even authors who know their stuff think they’re doing everything wrong.

The products we targeted rose on the top keywords we were aiming for.

There is a clear correlation. 

The algorithm reads full shopper behavior. 

A shopper lands on a product, moves through the journey, ends up on ours, and purchases. 

Amazon evaluates that flow.

We cannot say exactly how much influence it carries, but the pattern repeats.

I kind of disagree with time-limited offers being in the last place. I believe it’s connected to the price of the product.

Top 4 Amazon Reports to Better Understand Your Market

If your Amazon sales are going up right now, it might be just a market spike. 
You actually can make more, but hold less market share. 

During high-traffic periods like Prime Day, BFCM, or Christmas, sellers often celebrate rising sales without realizing competitors took a bigger share of the growth.

SQP reporting gives you the answer. Here’s how ↓

To understand whether you grew or the market grew, focus on three SQP metrics:
1. Total Clicks (Market Size)
⤷ Tracks how much traffic your entire keyword market generated.

2. Brand Purchases
⤷ Shows how many purchases came from your products.

3. Brand Purchase Share (%)
Brand Purchase Share = Brand Purchases ÷ Total Purchases
⤷ Reveals what percentage of the market you own.

Here’s how to interpret what you see:

Purchases ↑ 2× but Total Clicks ↑ 3×
⤷ Sales doubled, but the market tripled → you lost share to competitors.

Purchases ↑ 2× and Total Clicks stayed the same
⤷ Real market share growth. You won.

Purchases ↑ 2× and Traffic ↑ 2×
⤷ Growth came from the market, not from your strategy. Your share is unchanged.

P.S. The SQP report doesn’t include SB, SD, and SP widget sales. Additionally, raw SQP reporting won’t give accurate market share data unless you filter out irrelevant keywords.

If your order count is below 20 per keyword, use clicks instead. Personally, I trust the clicks metric more than purchases because of various attribution nuances.

How to Measure Your Real Performance 

When someone searches on Amazon, your product can only appear a limited number of times.
That's why your SQP impression share has a limit. Here's how to calculate it 👇

So your Impression Share depends on two things:

1️⃣ How many total impressions the keyword generates
2️⃣ How many impressions your ASIN can take (organic + ads)

1. Find average impressions per search

In the SQP report, take:
⤷ Total Impressions
⤷ Search Query Volume

Formula:
⤷ Average Impressions per Search = Total Impressions ÷ Search Volume

Example:
⤷ 488,305 impressions ÷ 21,316 searches = 23 impressions per search
(Most keywords fall between 20–25.)

2. How many impressions can your product take?

If you have 1 parent ASIN ranking:
⤷ Organic placement
⤷ 1 Sponsored Product placement

So your product can appear twice per search.

Now calculate:
⤷ 2 ÷ 23 = 0.0869 → 8.69%

This shows the theoretical max, but real performance is usually lower.

Here’s the simple benchmark I use:
⤷ 6.5%–7.5% → already very strong visibility for one parent
⤷ 3%–5% → balanced
⤷ Below 3% → still room to increase visibility

If you have multiple parents ranking → this number multiplies

So if you have two parent ASINs relevant for a keyword, your realistic max is closer to:
⤷ 6.5% × 2 ≈ 13%

3. Why this matters

Knowing your realistic max lets you:
⤷ Understand whether a keyword still has growth potential
⤷ See if you’re under-investing or already dominating
⤷ Catch keywords where you're losing visibility early

This turns Impression Share from “just a metric” into a strategic tool.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) → Helps Amazon put you in the right place to be found.

1. Do buyer-intent keyword research, not just high-volume ones.

2. Use keywords across title, bullets, and backend, but avoid keyword stuffing.

3. Hide keywords in images. Amazon reads your images as well, so even invisible text can work.

4. Make sure your content aligns with your audience's persona: their age, activities, gender, and more. Matching your ICP is important because Amazon also ranks products based on relevance.

Pro tip: Amazon’s AI now personalizes search results based on shopper interests.
⤷ That means your content and visuals determine who sees your listing.

If you sell:
⤷ Sports gear → show people doing sports
⤷ Gaming accessories → show gamers in action

CRO (Conversion Rate Optimization) → Helps shoppers choose you once they find you.

Main Image
⤷ First impression. Test angle, layout, and lighting.

Secondary Images
⤷ Answer buyer questions (size, use, benefits).
⤷ Use insights from Product Opportunity Explorer to pick what to highlight.

Bullet points
⤷ Continue the visual story from your secondary images. 
⤷ Address common objections (fit, material, use cases)

A+/A+ Premium
⤷ Repeat what’s already in your bullets and images.

Remember: Not all customers scroll through all product information, so make sure you have repeated the most important info about your product.

Both SEO and CRO are important. 

SEO brings traffic.
CRO converts it into sales.

SEO and CRO Optimization Cheat Sheet

Here’s a hard truth many CPG and supplement brands still miss: Your total sales number is NOT your real performance. It’s a blend of:

⤷ You see exactly how your acquisition strategy is performing
⤷ You know whether your brand is growing or stagnating
