My background in front line operations, compliance, management and training in financial institutions, stood me in good stead when I fell into the world of Data Protection.  I qualified as a Data Protection Practitioner in December 2019 and I've been hooked ever since!

Recognised as being a highly motivated individual with strong communication skills, I was shortlisted and a finalist in the categories of Rising Star and Compliance Officer of the year at the PICASSO awards in 2022.

Having presented at a number of international conferences, spoken on panels and contributed to international privacy drives I enjoy enthusing others, sharing my knowledge to stakeholders helping them develop and strong and uncomplicated privacy culture and ethos across the organisation.

As an ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems Lead Auditor, I believe that compliance of all relevant legislation should part of an organisations culture and not a tick box exercise. My ability to interpret and delivery regulatory requirements across the business, whilst maintaining high internal principles and keeping external business drivers at the fore, ensures that compliance does not become an afterthought in the business.

In my current role, I work with a number of international clients of all sizes, helping them to develop and deliver their privacy programme in a manner that suits their organisation.  Understanding the customers drivers and priorities is critical to success.

My passion for data protection privacy is linked closely to my passion for people. I firmly believe that data protection and privacy is not and should not be just a work thing but a life thing. Data protection and privacy are all about looking after people - just like you and me.

As the Data Privacy manager my role is to help create awareness and understanding and assist in driving privacy by design & default throughout the business. My team and I provide a wide range of support and are dedicated to providing exceptional standards of privacy care and knowledge sharing throughout the business and to our customers and associates

As the GDPR and Data Privacy SME, I was responsible for providing guidance and support to the business across all departments, including Marketing, Application Development, Communities & Development, Property Management, Residential Sales & Procurement. 

With the on-going project moving to a more agile approach, I drove the change of focus to ensure all areas being addressed were process mapped and supported the ROP as per Article 30 of the Data Protection Bill 2018 (GDPR). As GDPR Analyst team leader, I drove, monitored and assisted the team in ensuring the process maps were as robust as possible and any remedial actions derived from them are carried out by myself and the Data Privacy team.

My responsibilities included:

•	Education and Data Discovery Workshops
•	Data Asset register creation and delivery
•	Marketing Analysis and best practice
•	GDPR Project Management across multiple departments
•	Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) development and analysis
•	Centralised SAR development, delivery and on-going management

Engaged to design and implement information governance processes across Virgin Media UK & Ireland. Analyzing the 'As-is' and scoping, designing and implementing the 'To-be' model to ensure that standards are in place to align current and future reporting with the KPI's/metrics driving the business

Worked with the Executive committee and Head of Department to reduce report numbers across the business and align the processes with the GDPR regulations. I worked closely with all areas of the business to analyze their reporting standards, numbers and introduce rationalization / consolidation to ensure lean and focused reporting and data analytics.

Key achievements:
•	Introduction of defined governance processes across Virgin Media UK & Ireland, aligning with the incoming GDPR regulations
•	Business-wide report population analysis, across multiple platforms including Business Objects, OBIEE & Qliksense.
•	Introducing recommendations on reduction and consolidation after 'As-is and 'To-be' mapping/modeling
•	Metric mapping across the report population to support the collaborative and lean reporting model
•	Modelling and introduction of standards monitoring process to ensure compliance
•	Development and management of the IGO SharePoint Point-of-Contact for the business

Lead Business Analyst / Information Quality Analyst

My function at EBRD has been to both lead and support the various initiatives in providing the bank with clearer and more accurate information to progress the bank's objectives. This has involved a number of large BI projects, most notably:

Cognos 10 upgrade: 
I was responsible for migrating all Reconciliations, SAP Payroll, Trade Finance and Consultancy Services Unit banking reports from either Cognos 7 or ReportNet to Cognos 8.The Cognos 10 upgrade project required the rework of all the banking reports from either Cognos 7 or ReportNet or Cognos 8 to Cognos 10

Equity Management Information:
This requried the development of a series of data marts: utilising Informatica to extract the data from the new equity management system, Accounting Frameworks. This involved wrapping stored procedures from the underlying frameworks analyser application, mapping data from three different sources (SAP, OMS & Summit) into the Cognos Framework model and ensuring delivery of the reporting requirements for go-live.

On-going Core Data Warehouse Development: 
I have responsibility across all departments within the business for support, redevelopment or new requests and subsequent construction of reporting and analysis. 

Key tasks/skills:

•	Developed detailed specifications via workshops with key Banking operations/finance 	and trading floor management.
•	Developed multi-dimensional data framework model to facilitate fund management 
                  with key trend analysis
•	Developed and deployed key reconciliation and operational reports over new equity 	management system (Accounting Frameworks)
•	Developed key data mart workflows within Informatica 7.1 for extracting data from 	Accounting Frameworks SQL Server databases
•	Configured and managed testing/UAT/production environments for Reporting

Why? 

Why do businesses not understand how to leverage their greatest asset (the data they process!) and do it in a compliant way that provides the maximum benefit to the business AS A WHOLE?

I know, it baffles me too. For over 25 years I've worked to help organisations understand that asset, to enable the data they process to work for them and more recently to ensure the enablement of that data is done so with great governance and compliance with the prevailing data protection laws.

So why am I still baffled? 

** Well, I don't have the time to help EVERY business understand their data, realise how it impacts their teams...... 

** and their team's data impacts the business as a whole............

** and how identifying, mapping and enabling that data to combine with other department's data, will create untold benefits, opportunities and growth across the whole organisation. 

I have empowered and created partnerships with the organisations I worked and work with to implement these processes and strategies, with the right compliance and governance structures to ensure success.

This happened last night.

I'm still in shock.

The awards celebrate the hard work, dedication, drive and support of all of those working in the Data Protection, Information Security and Compliance space and I had the honour of being nominated in two categories:

Responsible AI & Data Ethics Initiative or Leadership: SME 

I wasn't expecting to walk away with any of them as I stood alongside some truly fantastic companies, professionals and friends, all of whom I look to for that support and guidance.

My hard work and dedication has paid off however, as I am the winner of the PICCASO (Privacy, InfoSec, Compliance, Culture, Awareness, Strategy & Ops) award for: COMPLIANCE CHAMPION OF THE YEAR: SME

I still don't know who nominated me, but I am deeply grateful and humbled by it and truly humbled in winning from the insanely talented nominees I was in this category with:

We're all in this together. Recognition is humbling, but we are all winners in what we do because sometimes it can be a thankless task.... but we do it any way for the greater good.

Its Antibullying week and I've debated for a number of days whether to share this, but if I don't, then parents seeing their children suffer or those who suffered as children from bullying will think there is one less person looking out for them, supporting them and helping them through the pain and the longer term mental health issues that bullying undoubtedly brings. 

I am here to support.

I was bullied at school. From the age of 9 right through to when I left for university at 18. It was physical at times, but the mental pain, the lack of self-worth that came from it, the feeling of 'not being good enough' and seeing the cruelty that people I called friends could inflict was sometimes unbearable. 

We see lots of discussion about 'just be kind' but I think it's more than that..... it's about truly understanding what humanity means. In my opinion, being human is looking out for each other, without prejudice, expectation or malice. It's not about being better than the other person, it's certainly not about making them feel small, unwanted, useless, unloved..... it's entirely the opposite.... yet we see so much of this type of behaviour online, in schools and indeed still in workplaces.

I didn't have access to incredible charities like Kidscape when I was being bullied, indeed being a lad from Yorkshire, the only sentence I ever heard was 'Man-up and just get on with it'..... very helpful and supportive (note the sarcasm).

We live in an increasingly divided world, where bullying is normalised and even presented as 'strength'. 

It isn't. 

It's fear, lack of humanity and the support to understand that bullying behaviour isn't acceptable. 

Kindness, vulnerability, discussion, open-mindedness and the ability to just 'see' people as people as other humans that have the same types of requirements, same types of issues, same need for support at times is what we need to embrace and teach our children.

I've battled through those demons, the self doubt, the lack of worth, the painful thoughts to a point where I am able to help, to give my knowledge and learning to others suffering.

In January this year, my company, Uncharted Summits, will lead a group of incredible humans, each with their own stories, to the roof of Africa - Kilimanjaro - and we're making a documentary with the most wonderful human, Lucy Black and Bright Cause Consultancy about those stories, about how each person overcame their pain

We are doing this so we can bring hope to those suffering, help educate those bullying others and to raise awareness that the way forward is not striving too be 'better' than anyone else, but that community, togetherness and understanding are the most powerful choices we can make.

What a week.....

Do you sometimes just get those weeks where you pinch yourself and it's all a little surreal?

Well this was mine. Not because I 'landed a 10k month / client' (which I didn't!)... but because it provided a reminder of the power of community, of likeminded people and of humanity.

It provide me a further learning in the strength from humility and vulnerability

It demonstrated the power of human connection and the collective force for good that can come from that connectivity

It reminded me that friendship and love is a hugely powerful thing that can move mountains and bring you back from the brink

It taught me that we are always learning and providing support, encouragement and confidence to others and seeing them shine brightly is what makes what you do fulfilling.

This week has seen :

Sharing of my story of bullying and how we're supporting the amazing Kidscape with our Kilimanjaro challenge in aid of them with my adventure tour company, Uncharted Summits

The first 3 episodes of Bright Cause Consultancy's podcast, Bright I am, drop onto all major streaming services. It is just so wonderfully brought together by the fantastic, beautiful amazing human (and friend!) Lucy Black. PLEASE go and listen to them, they make for powerful listening.

The start a powerful, strong and wonderful partnership (and no doubt friendship) with the amazing Paul from Voodoo Graphics and Pippa from Digipip Designs... some big things coming from this collaboration.

I could not be more humbled. 

Maintenance of my 100% attendance record at the AWARD WINNING Privacy Space. This event is special. The community, the spirit of openness and sharing and support is unparalleled anywhere else and it's speakers are there not as vendors, but as practitioners, sharing their knowledge and experiences with it. There were some very powerful talks and the final presentation of the day from the amazing Laura O. typified just what this space is all about. 

As I sit here on this overcast Saturday morning in the UK to reflect, it's hard to not see light shining through brightly. 

Its shining not on me, but on us. On all of us who can see the power of togetherness, of supporting each other, of being each other's biggest cheerleaders and the shoulders to lean on when the times are tough. 

You win not through fear, selfishness or cruelty. You are wealthy when you provide care, support, love and thought for others because it will always be reciprocated when it needs to be.  

I'm blessed and humbled by the incredible people I'm surrounded with. Thank you to you all and have a fantastic weekend. ❤️

As Chair of the Community & Engagement Group for The RED Foundation we're always looking to bring the new content and thinking around the built environment's use and understanding of data. 

Today, I'm looking forward to representing The RED Foundation at the University of Warwick's Finance, AI & PropTech conference. We will be reporting back to our associates and members next week and will be engaged in some fantastic discussion with Vicki Belt and Dr. Kalina Staykova today.

Our aim at The RED Foundation is to bring as many voices and likeminded experts together to look at some of the biggest issues regarding data in the built environment and support initiatives to address them. 

As we grow and expand our thinking and knowledge base, we will be bringing that knowledge and thinking to a wider audience over the next year through different means.

Sometimes, you wake up and it's the perfect day...

Sun is starting to rise, it's clear skies, it's cold and crisp and you know something special is going to happen.....

The journey into London yesterday was to crystalize conversations, work on a strategy and get that final 'feel' that this project and working together could be special.

The day did not disappoint.

The inimitable Kirsty Birch and I have been talking for a few months now on the incredible concept and work she's been doing to look at how businesses can really get to see the financial benefits of looking after their team's wellbeing. 

How can it be measured? 

When it is measured, how can we help our team's feel better and how can we 
improve in the areas highlighted? 

What can we do to address the productivity shortfall? 

Can we track the financial implications of Action vs Inaction? 

All of this thinking has been poured into the Human Return Index ™️

All of this is also data driven and I'm proud and so incredibly excited to say I'm coming onboard with HRi to be THAT (Award winning!) Data Guy. And maybe the reins at times 😉 , but with no less ambition to drive better workplace wellbeing.
